      That yellow color you use in snow, fog and rain where yellow does not reflect from white snow/fog but yellow cuts threw it so visibility is higher with yellow. Those are fog lights essentially but very useful in snow fall and heavy rain as well very visibility is crap with whites as they reflect from rain.

      8:22 that colour is legal! Old french cars used to have yellow headlights or have yellow tint over the headlights! They are supposed to cut through fog and snow as white is pointless by reflects straight back towards your face and just see wall of fog

Those are fog lights essentially but very useful in snow fall and heavy rain as well very visibility is crap with whites as they reflect from rain. The biggest selling point of those bulbs is color and led lights do not burn out as quickly as halogens. I replace halogens every 2-3 months as i drive a lot so cost of ownership of halogens and annoyance of changing them is super annoying. I just got those Boslla's so we'll see how they are. Halogens are garbage so unless you can do costly HID conversion there is no other alternative.

    I've taken a chance and bought some similar thin LED's. They do seem to work very much better than earlier ones - my Yaris Hybrid has lousy lights... But the LED's - while not perfect - do seem to be an improvement. There is still some unwanted glare - which is inevitable as they can't mimic a tungsten filament 100%, but I must say I am pleased with the result.

    To all of you that have l.e.d. Headlights make sure your lights are left to right in the headlight. Not up and down. In a standard halogen headlight thats how to get the right dispersed light. Had mine over under and had beams in the trees !

  • @Ogre302
    @Ogre302 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have a similar setup on my Pontiac and they're nice because since I work in the early AM and the residential roads snake around a lot I use the amber lights in the neighborhood so I don't blast light through the windows of neighbors. I don't know about these bulbs, but the ones in my car the LEDs are positioned and shrouded to simulate the location of a filament in a stock bulb would be located. I had recently been pulled over for speeding (I know, dumb of me. I was too relaxed and not paying attention to my speed.) and I did ask the officer if my headlights were too bright because "I had just resurfaced the headlight lenses and clear coated them and was afraid I had lost some of the geometry reinstalling them." and he said they were okay. Since he was facing me when he clocked me and I didn't blind him the bulbs were fine. So the design of the LED bulbs are key. The right design doesn't throw the light around too much like my HID bulbs did.

    They 'blind'other traffic because they are being used in optical systems designed to focus light from a filament . They can't possibly work properly in any lamp that is not designed for them in the first place! I'
    ve tried some, in a projector lamp, and they produce tons of light all right, but throw it all over the place and cause untold glare... I was not impressed (they are also not legal for use on the road).

      Richard King ADI That type of bulb, if you saw, the LED chips are in a thin surface. That type of LED is trying to mimic the halogen bulb filament. They’re brighter but you shouldn’t need to adjust them too much. I personally would probably put those as the fog light.

    • @JHsadler
      @JHsadler 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      There's a big difference between LED and HID. I agree entirely about HID but I have much more faith in LED as they're supposed to split the beam into hi/low beam

    • @howandwhy...
      @howandwhy... 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Not true. Go to headlight revolutions site and they'll explain everything and do tests with every bulb. They only blind people because some people are lazy and don't properly adjust them

    • @robivlahov
      @robivlahov 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      nope, new leds can be used in both projectors and reflector housings, you just need one that creates the right pattern. some cars have crazy glass after the reflector or a weird lens angle. but thats not a problem of the led , but of the car... there are some insanly good leds out there that create razor sharp beams in stock headlights.

    • @RichardKingADI
      @RichardKingADI 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@robivlahov I'll have to take your word for it - but I'd have thought that they would need to have an LED light-source that was exactly the shape and size of a filament for that to be physically possible!

    In the title you call the bulbs a ‘game changer’ yet your review of them is quite critical from the fan, to the fitment, colour and how the beam pattern is bad. Very confusing.

    Yellow is better for snow or rain, white is better for fine weather. The reason there’s a 3 second reset is so you don’t have to cycle through functions the next time you use your headlights. The flash function is pointless and annoying. I think these dual/tri colour would be better suited to foglights than headlights

    I thought leds in projectors would be great. But because of the way the bolbs are with a led on each side you get a dark spot at night in the centre of the pattern. As you can see on the headlight lens the light patters is like a circle with a dark spot in the middle. Would highly recommend hids in projectors. 2 or 3 times as bright in a projector lens

    I've just ordered the H4 version and I've been told that I won't have
    the flash mode. No problem. I'm just a little concerned about the cooling fans. I
    mean, when the fans wear out, will the bulbs overheat to the point of
    suffering a meltdown ? I live in Rio where the summer can be 40+
    degrees. I wonder if Boslla has tested them without the fans in Death
    Valley. p.s. I'm not sure, but did you put the relay/resistor/ballast inside the rubber boot ?
    I believe they should not. Rather they should be fixed somewhere outside the boot
    to allow their heat to dissipate.

    Great to see a more in-depth review with actually driving demonstration on a normal road, thanks for sharing. Unfortunately since they only make sense in projector housing as you said we really need to see them in such, perhaps you can do that in somebody else car and post an update please?
    Btw. I think apart from the flash mode they are not really good value for money , as a Kickstarter at $49/59 the cheapest ($139) retail, this is insane and they are taking advantage of crowdfunding because the triple color LED from Oedro cost only $36 which has slightly more lumens, include CANBUS that Boslla doesn't has and I have been using them for almost a year, very impressed!
    I tried warning people on the comments section ;) still nice to have but really should be retailed in the $50-70 bracket and thus cheaper in crowdfunding to be fairly competitive placed.

    • @MasonAK.1
      @MasonAK.1 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The reason that the bulbs don't seem to have as much "throw" is due to the poor choice of LED chipset and placement. Most newer LED bulbs utilizing the Philips ZES based LED chipsets have superior optics and less glare. The easiest way to give LEDs a try again is the Supernova PerfectFit.
      The "dazzling" effect is nearly eliminated in these bulbs due to the LED chipsets mimicking the size and placement of a halogen filament, something generic LEDs don't account for.

    To my knowledge, fitting the led lights to projector and reflection headlights would have little differences, because both types of lights have one thing in common they were designed around a halogen bulb with a filament in the centre of a glass housing. the best led type of bulb with a good beam pattern try to copy the halogen bulb, by having the Led as close as possible to the centre where the halogen filament the would be.

    At least the moderate yelow enables you to avoid from the roadside checks by the police/traffic authorities. In Hungary, LED bulbs are still illegal to use. There are more law provisions against it. The E4 and the other camouflage marks are not enough, when you are picked out from the row becouse of your 6500K ~10000 lumen beam (especially in a 15 years old corsa).

    Actually it is possible to install LED lights on reflector, how ever, the size of the light emitter *MUST* be in the approximate same position and be as small as the original incandescent filament to project the correct size beam and the correct focus. The XM-L2 are small enough and works on Fiesta Mk5 reflectors. ;D

    Yellow is still legal as far as I know but the beam pattern, regardless of lamp housing must conform to the ECE left or right standards depending on which country you are in.
    One thing I don't get, if these H7 LED's are only for use in projector housings and not reflective, why aren't manufacturers making two different sets of bulbs for projectors and reflectives?
    I suspect these wouldn't pass an MOT in any case and are really only for show use, not road legal. As an alternative I suggest using Philips Diamond White if stuck with incandescent bulbs. A bit of an improvement in colour but certainly better brightness.

    • @bobp6742
      @bobp6742 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bulbs aren't checked during the MOT only headlight beam pattern. So dodgy bulbs will still get through.
      Same with the de cat, its only the last 12 months that mot testers can fail a car with a cat removed.

    • @EdgyNumber1
      @EdgyNumber1 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@bobp6742 That's right. You can still get pulled over by the rozzers if the light is distracting/dazzling enough though, and if they are being a real PITA they can get you to head to an MoT station, within a couple of weeks, to check the beam pattern.
      To my knowledge there is no LED bulb designed to work correctly in standard reflective/projector lenses to produce the correct beam pattern.
      HIDs also can't be used in the same lenses and there are specific rules for aftermarket fitments - the focal light sources within the bulbs are different and the manufacturer headlamp lens and housing engineers take this into account (self levelling, lens design, etc.)
