I love his accent and can understand him just fine. I'm a native English-speaker though. You're totally right. His passion is infectious and inspiring. I love 29:12 especially.
29:12 I love your passion for Go here. Your analysis and presentation of games is a work of art. And poetry. What a gem of a channel. Can't wait to watch more of your vids.
Thank you so much, your introduction has sparked my enthusiasm on go again. This is a complex game play and it let me experience there are still many interesting and in-depth interactions in go which I have failed to notice.
the computer that mastered go video brought me here to see what a full game was like... this video was a great nugget of a find... I just love that this is a real live person talking about their favorite hobby :)
+Dillon Ainsworth AlphaGo has definetly mnot mastered the game. Alpha go was the first computer AI to beat a professional player. Although it only beat a very weak professional player. The gap between Fan Hui 2p (who AlphaGo played) and Lee Sedol 9p for example is huuuuuuuge. Even though you are a complete beginner and i have been playing for a few months the difference in strength between us is incomparable to that between Lee Sedol and Fan Hui. Although AlphaGo is still a big advancement for computer Go.
Dantist Yup. Just spent 4 hours reviewing the game with a friend of mine. It was an awesome game by both "players". Allthough Lee Sedol was a bit out of shape and overconfident. Losing the lower right corner in gote was a colossal mistake that he should have been able to see.
Thank you so much for this analysis and commentary - you bring life and depth to the study of this game, which, if I were to do it alone, would be very dull and dry.
A very interesting game, you can clearly see Go seigen breaking through barriers in it. Thanks for putting it up on youtube and for going through it so well, and thanks to whomever captioned this.
This was extremely well done. Thank you so much. I was able to follow what you said primarily because I've encountered the concepts through normal play. The use of Japanese go terms is common-place and knowledge of these terms really helps follow such in-depth discussion.
your english and understanding of go are both outstanding im from america and im a native english speaker and i understood 98% of what u said :) part of that is also becouse im a rookie at go though :) keep up the good worrk ur a great teacher
man when i watch other people play it looks so awesome and fun, but when i try myself it is alot harder then it looks. just when i think i'm winning. i was never even close. trying to learn how to play this game properly but harder then expected
I have a difficult time reading out problems. After about 4 or 5 steps, I cannot remember which imaginary stones are where. This is especially true if throw-ins are involved (stones captured). I've been working on reading out life-and-death problems seriously for about 3 months now, but I think I have plateaued. I just don't have a very strong visual memory.
Thank you for sharing this game with us. The captioning is excellent, and I've learned more about play in watching this game than I have in a year of reading. I'll certainly be referring back to it in the future, and watching the rest of your videos.
Great video! I like that you explained so many what-if scenarios. It gave me a much greater understanding of why they played like they did, and it personally helped reinforce many game concepts i've been trying to understand. Thank you for all the hard work you put into this
Players take turns placing stones on intersections of a go-ban in attempts to gain territory both through influence and complex undermining strategy. If orthogonally connected stones of one color have no remaining liberties (additional orthogonal positions to connect to), that group is dead and removed from the board. Whoever has more territory at the end wins. Where stones haven't been placed, it is clear who controls what.
Anyone who's complaining that they can't understand him speak, and isn't a native English speaker, should not complain, and study harder ;) Most of what he says can be understood - yes, his accent is extremely strong and his phonics are off, but he's giving it a go. It would take soooooooooo long to subtitle these videos. Do you really think he should go to all that extra work because your English isn't good enough to understand? có lên!
@@JimmyTulip1 the only sad thing about Go is that there's no one to play around you most of the time, unless youre in the 3 big Go countries (jp,ch,kr)

A go commentary in English! I decided to look on youtube to see if there was anything like this, but I didn't expect to find much. Glad to see a really in depth video like this for westerners. Please keep making game commentaries! :)

I watched this game a year ago when I first started really getting into go and thought "Wow this looks so cool! These guys must be really strong!" Now I'm watching it again after reaching amateur 5dan and I have to say I'm actually speechless. The stronger I've gotten, I've come to understand just how good these guys were in their time. It's genuinely amazing and I don't have a way to adequately describe how I feel about their play in this game. It's just awesome. I really hope I can play a game like that someday.
@@theuglytruth5556 Well, 6dan now. When you beat 2dans by 40 points on average, it's hard to look at it another way. It's not like it's unheard of, anyway, I remember seeing Haylee play a guy who was 7dan in a year or something. Wait till you see me as the next AGA professional next year.
@@theuglytruth5556 For the record we're talking 5 dan amateur, not a pro or anything. It's really not that hard to do. My best friend got to 3d KGS in the same time I got to 6d so it's not like I'm even alone here.

It's the principle. Once it's clear that a group is dead, you don't capture them. Instead, you play elsewhere, where it's more important.
