I just realized I cut out a super important part of this video… when I’m shooting I make sure that everything is perfect. Meaning I try to refrain from editing anything in photoshop so I’ll change things while shooting. I also make sure I’m properly framed and exposed while I’m shooting, so my editing process is faster!
Nice video! I've been using flags to cull but I like the idea of using colors to note when the photo is actually 'done' or needs more editing. Also did not know the batch syncing, that's gonna save a ton of time!
Tip - no need to use the arrow keys to move to the next photo. Just have the CAPS LOCK on and it will auto advance to the next photo after you marl the one with a color label or start label. I prefer 1-5 stars instead of color lameness. I use a 1 for pics. Colors I use for different file types or stages of edits or if they have been posted on Flickr etc or not.
12:45 Note - syncing edits ONLY works if you camera settings didn't change for exposure between each image and the lighting in each location is the exact same. Usually you only sync edits for each grouping of photos (2 to 20 etc) that are all shot in the same location or same lighting or same camera settings. Otherwise they won't look good on some pix.
Hi, thanks for all the tips! I am editing a studio photoshoot now, but I spent way too long per photo to remove dirt on the backdrop on the floor and change the lighting. Like 5 min. per photo x 140 (already culled) photo’s.
I have my photo as red, go to library and make it green makes me lose my place and scrolls to green section. But i want to be able to stay where i left off at so I can keep changing the color without being brought to the bottom of the page
1 catalog perr shoot works for a pro portrait/weddibg photog but not for an artist photog as you cant find them easily later when you want to find a pix of a red color car with a buikding or a yellow bird behind a blue sky etc in a filtered search. Multiple catalogs are a pain in those scenarios, but yes for wedding or portaot photography that's the best way, to keep the clients own caralog file with the folder of RAW images.
Loved this video! Do you have any tips for organizing picks from the client? Let’s say they want me to send some raws (after I made the general selections). Then they can pick which to edit from, what’s the best way to manage their selections? In the ssd or in the catalog itself
I'm definitely guilty for being in the artists trap! Especially with generative fill, now there's endless opportunities to not only be creative, but also spend time.
For wedding you can use the Narrative Select for culling it has an AI that can spot up blur pictures in a rate of 1-10, and close eyes, so making sure no close eyes in groupies. It's culling process is probably the fastest thing I've seen. Try it out.

BIG THANKS FOR YOUR TIP WITH REGARDS TO THE CAPS LOCK... OOPS SORRY CAPS LOCK STILL LEFT ON.

Excellent video! I sped up my workflow big time after your color method!
Great to hear!
Sync settings in a MUST! Solid workflow walkthrough.
Syncing all your settings is the biggest game changer! Saves you so much time!
This is so helpful I’ve been struggling with the LR learning curve

It’s so easy to waste time making minuscule adjustments that at the end of the day won’t make a difference!
Can you make a similar video but for editing weddings 💒- editing weddings is more time consuming
These principles apply to weddings as well. However with the larger wedding galleries i would use Aftershoot AI to cull them faster!
