Hi Katherine --- here is the link to the printable recipe --- whats4chow.com/2016/08/10/how-to-ferment-sugar-wash-to-make-vodka-part-1/ Thanks for watching!!!
I liked this mini series about beverage. I liked the idea of distilling. And I am considering distilling my mead, it is my very ever first time. I am not sure what to expect! And I am hesitant between the choices of distilling or aging it as a wine!! I am not quite sure of what to do next!
Hi -- in our next few episodes on distilling, which will be published shortly, I will go into more detail and most of your questions should be answered in these. In the meantime feel free to send any other questions you may have. Thanks for watching!!!
Hi --- normal yeast will not work with sugar wash. Regular baking yeast, and even regular brewers yeast off the shelf in the supermarket do not have an alcohol tolerance past about 6% ABV. This means that the yeast will die long before all of the sugar is consumed. You will end up with an overly sweet syrup, with a maximum of 6% ABV. You can get the real yeast from brewcraft.co.za --- use either #8 Turbo yeast, or Still Spirits Whiskey yeast. Thanks for watching!!!
Hi there. Love the videos, why only leave for 48 hours? most sugar washes stand for 5 to 6 days as far as I have researched. is it the special yeast you use. I would like to try with bread yeast but not sure if 48 hour will be long enough. thanks for the vids.
Hi Nicholas --- the 48 hour fermentation only applies if you're using Still Spirits' Turbo Yeast.... they make a Turbo 8 which will ferment in 48 hours, and a new super-fast yeast simply called "Fast Turbo Yeast" and this will ferment in 24 hours. As far as using bread yeast.... this will ferment, but it really is not developed for the production of alcohol, and will probably taste pretty bad as a result. Try to get your hands on a pack of Turbo yeast --- if you don't have a brewing shop near you, you can find it on eBay as well. Thanks for watching!!!
What, no ones commented? Well I am because Im trying this! lol
Hi.... thanks for the comment, and thanks for watching!!!
