    The core of any profession should be clear. Lawyers practice law. Accountants practice accounting. Engineers practice engineering. Technical skills are the fundamental underpinning for entry into these professions. Soft skills, ethics, and so on, these are traditionally developed on the job, and where necessary, monitored and enforced by the profession. I hope that the public trust in the profession continues to be strengthened. I worry that shifting focus away from technical knowledge may do the opposite. When I read the roadmap, I wonder how much of it already applies to other professions, and what makes the CPA profession unique apart from those other professions in the context of the non-technical components of the roadmap.

    • @ernestdunphy7027
      @ernestdunphy7027 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Very true. The need for technical knowledge in accounting or tax is sorely missing in new CPA's. It could give rise to a new designation - CTTA (Certified Technical and Tax Accountant).

    I fail to see how the potential topics maintain the integrity of the profession. This feels like it will cheapen the value of the designation. Unbelievably disappointing.

      @@derekisaman3074 I have heard from many people that experience verification is not functioning properly. Firms may not be able to cover all the bases anymore. Candidates valid experience also appears to be not accepted. Firms appear to have limited pre-approved spots which leaves other employees doing similar jobs having to take the experience verification route which is much harder despite them doing the same job. Some very smart people I know left the program because of the CPA. So it is a problem. They could offer conversion to the new CPA for legacy people if needed IMO.

      I'm afraid it's official, CFE as we know it is being replaced in 2025. Take a look at the CM 2.0 (link in video description), you'll see topics like organizational behaviour, human behaviour/bias, conflict management, sustainability/ESG, etc. Since CPAs are going to be mostly "people managers", they want to teach us "people skills", ie. how to handle conflict and how to deal with diverse group of staff. Hence why these new topics are being added to the new 2025 program.

      Yes, PEP is the current CPA program. PEP is the program that starts after PREP. It has the 6 modules, Core 1, Core 2, electives, etc. Then the final exam is CFE. If your plan was to start PEP in 2025, you'll probably be transitioned into this new program and take the "new PEP". We don't know what modules will be there, how long they will each take, what exams you'll write, that's still to be developed. The other item, PERT, is about writing experience reports. You don't have to worry about it for now, most report it later in the program and it may disappear completely.

      Can't say for sure, it's still in the early stages. If you're already going to be in PEP in 2024, my guess is that you'll be under the legacy path and take the current CFE format.

      This is something you could discuss with the CPA or your employer. I think that you should see if they are looking into converting legacy people to the new path which should not be that hard IMO.

    I believe cpa would lose the credibility it has enjoyed so far if these changes are made. Nobody hiring new CPA because they are aware of diversity and inclusiveness and nothing how to do read a FS.
    CPA would be joke!

      sadly this rings very true. I can see adding it in, much like legacy CMA we had more operational and management courses but still had vigorous technical requirments and exams to pass.

    From May 2024(as of now), Indian CA(/CPA) course is going to be drastically changed as per ICAI and now CPA Canada is also announcing a major changes from 2025. It's going to be difficult adopting these changes as they can be favourable or unfavourable for each individual student. These changes will definitely increase their reputation around the world.

    I am sorry. It will just make CPA a cheaper designation. Just like how they turned CA to CPA. A presentation and Team work based exam? no one will respect that.

    What nonsense is this... while there are glaring issues with the current process of certification - AT LEAST - there is some standardization through exams. This new model looks like handing participation medals to everyone. Watering down our profession like this means eventually you'll get your CPA for bringing your pencil.
