The Photo was taken about 3 miles from my home, it was a concrete piling in a colliery spoil heap at Easington Colliery in North East England.

Yep, definitely need to watch the live at shepperton studios version. You'll see the crazy energy they put into it.
    Great live band.

G'day Guys! Yes you definitely need to watch the live in Shepperton Studios!!! Gabe has to see Pete Townsend bouncing around and Keith Moon drumming up a storm! his energy is such that he had to tape the headphones to his head! Cheers!

    80’s sound?!
Errrr,no,it has a seventies sound, the best decade in history for music, with the sexy sixties just behind…….THEN the 80’s.
Just my opinion fellas as I lived and loved it.

I think because Britain ruled the roost with bands in the 60's, 70's and early 80's

Nice reaction guys. This was one of the all time great rock anthems even before TV got hold of it and introduced it to the masses! The Who were such a well balanced four piece, all complementing each other (not unlike another iconic British band of the same era!). Pete Townshend was an adopter of early synthesizers as heard here and in Baba O'reilly.

Shit man the WHO started in the early 60’s .
Please don’t make comments until you’ve done your homework on the sixties and what that led to
The WHO were at Woodstock. In 69.

...talking about the album cover during the keyboard solo ruins the moment, please let your friend focus on the music. The location of the cover was a slag heap, which is leftover rock after mines have removes the metal from them. The concrete pilings are there to keep the rocks from shifting.

This was released in 1971, so it really can't have an 80's sound, there are no digital instruments

If you watch the live version from Live Aid 1985, you will see that te sound is made from a keyboard.

5:37 The sound is BRITISH and yes Rolling Stones, The Beatles and The Who were all competing for the airwaves and sales worldwide sales. The US rock scene was very heavily influenced by British music.
