It's those little gems that have so much passion and energy and joy in them that really provide the spiritual contrast to the angst and frustration and yearning. Pure And Easy, Naked Eye, Put The Money Down, The Seeker, Now Im a Farmer, come to mind, getting in tune, Im Free. Not the big hits you hear on classic rock radio, and not the themes to CSI etc, but these are the deeper cuts that really fill out the personality of the Who as a band and are an interesting look into the creative mind of Pete.

      I've had enough of dying
      I've had enough of smiling
      I've had enough of crying
I've taken all the high roads

One of the greatest Who songs of all is called "Pure And Easy". Sadly, it didn't make it onto the original Who's Next album. If it had, it would likely have been an all-time classic in the same category as Baba O'Riley, Bargain, and Won't Get Fooled Again. You know the Who's Next album is great when amazing songs like "Join Together", "Relay", and "Pure And Easy" weren't deemed good enough to be on the original release.

For those who might be interested: On Monday The Who announced a US tour in 2022 called The Who Hits Back. The tour starts on April 22 in Hollywood, Florida and will be at Amalie Arena in Tampa on April 27. They will tour in the spring and the fall and cover most of the country and also a few gigs in Canada. I've already got my tix for the Boston show on May 18. Obviously, this could be the last tour of America for The Who so if you've ever wanted to see them..........

The Who closed out (pre-encore) their seminal 1st ("The Who - The End" was the Rolling Stone cover - lol) farewell tour in Oct '82 shows with 5:15, Love Reign Over Me, Long Live Rock, & Don't Get Fooled Again. About the best close of a show as I've ever seen. That on the heels of The Clash's incredible opening set.
That brings up another thing - asap, you need to get some more Clash going. It is wayyyy overdue. I recommend following your previous London Calling and Rock the Casbah reactions with Love in Vain, English Civil War (for a reggae inflected song) & Magnificent Seven (Live).
The Who recently (and finally) came out with a DVD (pro-shot style) of that Shea Stadium show I saw. The Clash were supposed to do a complete video documentary of their trip into NYC and the show, but unfortunately didn't record all the footage. Some is better than none I suppose!

Having lived in London from '64-'78, I had an up close and personal experience with Brits and their relationship with The Who. They were and ARE beloved by EVERY class of people. The Rockers, Mods, Teddy Boys and Punks LOVED or LOVE The Who. Unlike other British bands that had a 50/50, 75/25 or 90/10 like/dislike. The Who seem to be loved 99/1. I'd call them the quintessential English band. Queen a close second (although Freddie would be favoured by far, individually).
