Love how you explain things. Enjoy the conversations and history.
We had a relatively young elm tree get struck once. It blew the bark off like this one and the tree died. It was right next to an antennae my husband had put up for his radio.
If that was planted in 1949, its about my age.
Always enjoy watching you use the chain saw, because you are careful and good.

Always interesting to hear some family history!!!Glad you were able to cut the tree down without any mishaps. We had a huge forked maple split and blow down during a Derecho in the summer of 1995. Encountered tramp iron embedded in the wood where various items had been attached to the tree over the years (not good on saw chains!!!).

Nice to see someone cut a tree using proper technique and PPE. So many think they know it all and don't need protection and don't follow correct procedure. Good job.

It's always great to help each other. Families are as neighbors and neighbors are as family. In 1992 lightning hit a tree (part of a windbreak) by my parents house and ultimately the house burned to the ground in Taylor County WI.

Great job on the drop! The flowers will be fine. You should try to get some lumber out of it for the sawmill. Maybe make a table. Ain't it fun having a teacher that is related to you?👍👍😂😂

We have a big burr oak on the field edge, that got hit by lightning a couple years ago, messed it up pretty bad, but still has a few live branches left.

As an old English teacher myself, I can say, we never die, we just run out of red ink!!

And probably most of that red ink ended up on my English papers. 😂

We have a fir tree about 100' behind the Milk Parlor that got struck probably 30 years ago now, Dad got up one morning was turning the Kitchen Light on you can see this tree out the Kitchen Window. Said the entire sky lit up, it blew the bark off the upper 10-20' of the tree. The tree is still alive just the top 10' is dead.

Did your cousin's wife forgive the tree landing on some of the land scape. Keeping the tree off the house is always the priority. That was one tall tree to find a landing zone for.
