  • Watch this to learn how to make feeding your dog healthy and cheap:
    • Dog Nutrition FREE Gui...
    Why is good dog food expensive?
    If you pay someone to make the food for you, it will cost more, and for dog food businesses to keep their costs low, they often reduce the quality of the ingredients in their meals. Sometimes to a level that could be considered as very healthy for dogs, if not dangerous.
    I always try to encourage dog owners to learn about nutrition, as it's arguably the most important tool in keeping their dog healthy, out of the vets and alive longer.

    Making a fully complete raw food diet is very difficult, even more so for a puppy when nutrition is so so important in their early development. The huge problem we have in this industry is that it is LITTERED with conflicting information and arguments, honestly the amount of times I've chuckled away to myself after reading / watching two completely different sets of information and guidance that contradict eachother. The cherry on the top is when they state they are certified nutritionist or vertinarian. But there is a logical view on this, as stated in this video and many others, is that in the wild, these dogs would consume raw meat, thats a fact. Interestingly enough, vets seem to heavily push kibble as the go to for pet nutrition, which ive never understood why. The main concern for me and my pup is to ensure hes getting ALL of the correct nutrition during his early development. I simply can not play around with that. That is where a complete kibble with some fresh toppers shines. As much as id love to feed him raw, there are far too many nutritional needs to think about and im not confident i can fullfill that but sourcing my own meat. Companies who make a complete raw food charge an insane price (looking at £200-£250) per month to meet my dogs requirements. Thats just robbing in my eyes. I imagine many or in this same position. So, until raw feeding becomes readily available at an affordable price, or easy to source meats that cover all nutritional needs, then kibble and fresh toppers are the way to go.

      What an insightful comment! You are exactly right! It is difficult to make any diet to be optimal nutrient levels to promote health and reduce risk of disease! And yes, doing it yourself is almost impossible! Why do vets push kibble? Because they know that kibble is formulated by the best board certified vet nutritionists and chemists, not just adding appealing ingredients but combining various ingredients to deliver optimal levels of nutrients. The industry gives you conflicting info( which I call Lies) because they are trying to differentiate themselves. This guy just evaluated a food based on an ingredient panel with definitions so vague you don’t know much about the actual ingredient and an ingredient panel that is manipulated because by law it goes by weight. Example: real meat as the first ingredient is heavy with water. It’s hardly ever the main protein source. He evaluated a food and never once even considered the nutrients it’s providing! That’s insane! I was a veterinary rep for Hills for 34 years. I know every truck these pet food marketers use to fool pet parents. Sadly, so called nutritionists who have no clue focus on ingredients, which again the marketers want you to do! Show me the nutrients! If this food had poor quality meats it would show up high in calcium and phosphorus, excesses very unhealthy for your dog and cat. He talks about meat protein. How much protein? Excess protein has to be broken down by the liver and kidneys and then converted to fat. So we overtax the kidneys and then increase the risk of obesity just because these self proclaimed nutritionists think meat is so wonderful. A real nutritionist knows combining meat and plant proteins provides the most complete list of amino acids! And if you’re feeding a well formulated diet, stop the topper! You are trusting the company to correctly combine ingredients to produce a nutrient profile. Then you’re unbalancing the diet with a topper. Again, too much protein, not good. Too much calcium binds zinc and phosphorus. Too much fiber reduces protein absorption. Like you said, this isn’t easy! The Pet Food Puzzle Guy

    Regarding their pride food, I just want to make it clear that rainbow capitalism is very much a bad thing. Most companies will sell rainbow/LGBTQ+ related merchandise during June without actually doing much to support the community, they just do it for their own financial gain. However, I personally support the route that Lily's Kitchen has taken - 100% of their profits from that food go to a charity called Switchboard, until they raise a total of £26,000. Even if they don't reach that target, they'll still pay the difference. As well, their Love & Pride food is absolutely not a Nestle thing, it's been going on for years at this point (2018 is the earliest date I can find). I'm pretty sure they're actually giving more money to charity, too, since when they first started out by donating to Stonewall, they were only giving between 30p and 75p per tray or tin instead of 100% of their profits.

      The key is he says not to feed dry food EVERYDAY. Some days are ok, but dry food doesn't give the dogs ALL the nutrition they need, so changing it up to fresh every 2-3 days and giving your dog some variety will help!
      Maybe even half dry and half fresh

      @GG-kn2se 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@molley17Nope. Just because you want it to be true doesn’t mean it is. Kibble is the worst nutrient wise and dehydrates your dog. Followed by canned wet food, followed by pouches, etc etc.

    I am amazed! I met with the founders of Lilys kitchen and they went into great detail about the nutrition story and why they formulated it. I cannot believe they have sold out! Cowards! Absolute cowards, very disappointed. I have just bought a gorgeous little sheltie puppy who had been started on purina puppy kibble 🙈 plus some raw meat. I was adding little pieces of the lilys kitchen just believing it was better as i believed that it was formulated better, again 🙈 thank you for this video, looks like ill be transitioning to making my own meals for her, i want to give her a better start and be as healthy as can be. I should have known better, im a human nutritionist should have realy looked into l kitchen more. Thanks again

    goodness! this is so hard! i am so conflicted... i had pretty amazing food when i was living in Switzerland, now that I am in the UK I have absolutely been conflicted, now I am feeding Marjorie Naturo grain free... but it seems the fact that nearly all dog foods that you reviewed puts me off of it; saw the lily's kitchen just before i thought I made a good decision bur definitely NO to nestle...
    now I tend to 'different dog' ... still, could you maybe do a Naturo review anyway? she seems to enjoy it but I do really want to give her the best possible as she is a senior now and I want to keep her healthy and happy ❤

    I live in a remote part of Scotland & going to the shop weekly isn’t an option as it isn’t practical. Obviously I have to store food I need in my freezer so I don’t know how to go about fresh food for him. We are also subjected to being snowed in & power cuts, so is there a wet & dry food you can recommend instead?

    I wouldn’t ever feed my dog this crp I remember when they were really pet and owner focused but since they were taken over by nestle they succumbed to the industry
    Thank you for your educating us pet owners the ingredients of this crp it is really scary what company’s can get away with
    When you mentioned the pride food it is really insulting to pride month

      Hi Ryan, the reason I criticise popular brands is because of the misinformation around what is really healthy for dogs. Owners are being conned by big corporations and their marketing. I am passionate about helping inform dog owners to make the best decisions for their dogs, ultimately helping their pups live a longer and healthier life. A lot of kibble is packed with rubbish, and I feel like I explain my rationale pretty well in these videos, but do feel free to drop me an email with any further questions and I'd be more than happy to help.
