I agree this is an underrated gem. There are some weird timing rules when it comes to the black market which aren’t very elegant and the randomness of the tile draw is rough is such a tight game. But overall I don’t play this nearly as much as I should. Oh and around the 2 hour mark at the end of round 3 the black market busts didn’t move down like they should have.
Loved the playthrough. I'm about to play this for the first time so I'm likely missing something but is what you guys were doing with your assistants allowed? The rules state "always take the Assistant action first" before moving an assistant down and taking a gear but you were all doing it in the opposite order. So it doesn't seem like you can vacate a spot and then immediately take it again. Sorry if I'm overlooking something and thanks!
"Big Ben looks awfully tasty" - Edward, 2024. Sorry, I just quite enjoy out-of-context quotes. Thank you for this run of streams, Alyssa has an awfully good taste in games, sad to see her go.
I've said it ever since it came out - while some aspect of the game (turn order, random loans, pocket watch etc.) might be wonky and feel a bit unpolished, the core mechanism that is sort of a hybrid between worker placement and bidding is just stellar. I'm just waiting to find it being used in more games. You have the Furnaces and Keyflowers of the world with their types of bidding, but the unique thing here (well, apart from choosing what your bids are gonna be) is that on each location it's not one "auction" for each item but for choosing first among several (plus you're also not limited to one bid per player and location). The game has a BGG weight of 3.80 - I think with some things cleaned up and slightly simplified taking it to around 3.50 it would have been possibly even better.
come for the amazing game...stay for the dancing! Love these classics you're streaming, Edward.

A true banger of a game that really was not recognized and appreciated adequately
