We head out wide targeting swordfish on an overnight trip to the Hokitika Trench, we dont get a sword but we do catch a bluefin. Not a monster by any means but its a first.

In North America we are allowed 1 fish from 27-47in 1 fish from 47-73 and one 73 plus. The one fish 73 or greater is 1 for the season.
Ask Jason for a winch on your boat DNA can do whatever you want on your boat for you and will be happy to do it Fish On well done

How good was the eating after you vac-packed that tuna? In the kitchen i always got told you cant vac pack tuna because some enzyme shit starts breaking down the meat.... interested

We have a 2 bluefin daily limit here in California, no size limits, most fish are 25-50 pounds, but more recently there have been fish up to 300 pounds. Best local bluefin fishing in 100 years!

te moko o tapuhi I just check and I was wrong anyway we are allowed 1 fish from 27-47 and 1 from 47-73 per trip with a fish 73 or greater for the year. I haven’t been BFT fishing in years but I do know we don’t get many 73 plus fish anyway, when we do it’s a very short window and the chance of getting one is slim. They literally might be around for a couple of days while they are heading North to Cape Cod.

we did shoot the Tuna with the shotgun, we had less than 2 hours to get back accross the bar and safely into harbour before the storm came, cheers

yeah tried that, the 2 bites we have had and 1 hook up were on small baits, tried whole squid, bellies in a skirt, gemfish strips big and small. Got some skipjack bellies for the next drop...
