  • I bought a Honda GL1100 Goldwing and now we will get this sweetheart running and driving. This Honda has been setting for more then 12 years both inside and outside.
    In this first video we will see if we can get it to at least try to start.
    We will repair the starter motor and see it it'll make some noise.

    I bought one too and restored it - worth over $6000 now - I bought mine for $500. Don't underestimate the value or reliability of that bike, It is a literal masterpiece. We rebuilt most of mine and it's almost ready to hit the road. Worth putting money into , big time. The gas tank - fill it with vinegar from the dollar store and let it sit for a few days. You can try rust remover also, but the vinegar worked for me and a pressure washer to douche it all out. Trust me, if you put $1000 and some time into this bike, you will have a lasting rider and a money maker on your hands.

      Hi,
      Interesting to watch your video...
      I want your opinion about a 1980 Honda Goldwing that has been stored for at least 4 years.
      1) Do you think is still fixable?
      2) How much do you think is worth it?
      3) With this information, any idea of how much I need to put it in normal condition?
      Thank you for your help and answers.
      AG.

    Well shucks, those air shocks are worth 300 bucks for sure....look fairly clean and good boots. The RED Light on dash is OIL Pressure. 1.1 Bar = 15.9 psi ...I personally used a 13 psi cap and it works fine. I almost NEVER try to re-build the starter, due to the exact reason you showed. It was dying for so long and abused, it almost never works out. Rick's Electric rebuilds em with a warranty for a C note, I start fresh. Nice try though. IT'S ALIVE. She's smoky but it lives.

    Good video but I'd like to point out that the radiator caps on Honda's are metric. 1.1 8:33 like you mentioned is 1.1 BAR and is around 15 psi. Mine has a .9
    BAR cap which is 13 psi. Some caps on these bikes are 1.3 BAR and that's almost 19 psi

    • @RaymoreRepair
      @RaymoreRepair  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Most all of them I see on OEM caps is 1.1. other are quite possible. Thank you for watching.

    Could you tell me if you had power coming from the solenoid wire to the starter. Mine is doing the same thing the solenoid is clicking. But I'm curious whether or not you had power from one side of the solenoid that goes to the starter meaning 12v. Cuz my meter shows 0 from that side. Could you please help thank you

    • @RaymoreRepair
      @RaymoreRepair  ปีที่แล้ว

      If you have zero volts on the starter side and can hear the starter solenoid click, it is most likely a bad solenoid. use a set of jumpers to go from one large terminal to the other and see if the starter will try and turn. Thank you for watching.

    I’ve got a gl1100 1983 goldwing interstate.
    She runs beautifully.
    She almost past inspection but the hand brake will not activate the brake light, only works with the foot brake.
    I cleaned off and replaced the electrical connections at the base of the hand brake switch but still it will not activate the brake light. Any ideas where I should start poking around?

    Hi, I have removed my starter motor several times and never got oil there as you did, maybe your baby had to much oil?. By the way, the terminal you soldered in the starter motor is a "live" wire comming fron the stator to the brushes and the rotor, that connection is really close to the brushes plate (ground), it is a great idea to insulate that terminal.

    • @RaymoreRepair
      @RaymoreRepair  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes That is the main feed of power to the rotor. Insulating it would be a very good ides. As for the oil. Yes it had about twice as much as it should have. I had never experienced the oil like that either. Back in the day I pulled several of these starter form GL1100 and GL 1200s and that was a first for me. I guess I'll start be checking the oil next time.
      Thank you for watching.
