- Hey all, today I am sharing Daniel Smith's new Metal 24 half pan watercolor palette. I am super happy with this palette, and am thrilled to share my first look at it.

May I suggest that the sheet with the colors and pigment information can be cut into the individual squares and taped/ adhered to the swatch sheet and the swatch applied below the now labeled space? Would save a lot of writing. Enjoyed the video. I had read the reviews on how poorly constructed the plastic palettes are so I took a pass. Your review makes me want to reconsider. 😊

I bought a set of Sennelier, the cheaper student brand, where the cubes of paint were falling out of the pans...I used some gum Arabic to stick them back in, worked fine.
You can stick the paints to the pans using gum arabic and/or honey and/or glycerin (just a small amount should do). This will not hurt the paint or lightfastness.

Their swatch chart is so cool that it has all the info on the pigments. Could stick it to the back of the paper you make your own chart on.
Also! GOETHITE genuine (probably spelt that wrong) is AMAZING!!!

I’ve loved ur videos from when I first found u about 3-4 years ago! Soooo thank you so much!😊💗👍🏼 I do have a Question?? I have 49 of the Daniel Smith colors (tubes) and 48 of Schminke (tubes) for some reason I feel like the Schminke and Winsor and Newton paint more smoothly?! BUT I really don’t know, because all I’ve been doing is swatching paints, inks, Copics ect! I’d love ur opinion! 😊 AND DON’T feel bad...I also have the complete set of Holbein too! Lol 😂! It was the first set I bought, because I follow an amazing artist Maria Raczynska on TH-cam! Maybe I’m addicted to shopping, swatching and organizing?!😬😱 I hope not!😊 ps, I’d love to see more of ur color mixing!!! U just came up with so many cool colors!👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 pps? Did u do any painting with ur travel palette?😀
Yes I have done a bunch with the holiday palette. I am going to film a follow up video on it soon! I love schminke I have their 48 half pan palette. I find them smoother as well they glaze great. Holbein are awesome too I only have 7 or 8 colours of those. I am wanting more schminke and I would love love to try senellier. I think they are all wonderful paints it's all about what's easier for you to get your hands on I suppose. I know it's a wishy washy answer. But I love all the paints.
I have the Schmincke 48 pan set and I noticed the pans are a good bit smaller than regular half pans. Is that how your Schmincke set is? I purchased mine from Jacksons Art and the set seems to be original schmincke watercolors but I just can't understand why the pans are so small?

I glue the enclosed pigment swatch to the one I do on paper. Thanks. Wish I had caught it before sold out.
This damn thing is out of stock everywhere. Not sure why I want it, I have more than half the colors in tubes, but still....must have it!!!

The colors are great, but... There is no space down the middle to store a travel brush. I can't get my cheap joe's or my da vinci or my escoda travel brushes into the box. The pans need to be placed as close to the outside edges as possible.
Can't get any of my water brushes in there either. The box is only good to carry paints, that's all.
Is there a lavender and verditer blue inside? Do u find these 2 colors useful n nice?
While there is no white in this set, I know most have a white watercolour in some of our sets. I have never painted with verditer blue. But it is ultramarine cerulean and white, so if you have a white on hand it's easy enough to make.
I do have a tube of lavender in a tube and don't think I have even swatched it yet to be honest. They are more opaque and i tend to paint with lots of glazing and layers so i like the transparent colors more
@@JessClee oh thank you, sorry i thought those are lavender and verditer blue....just wondering how it performed..i have mixed my own lavender mix....and maybe i make a verditer blue mix (pb28 plus white) to save some money....

I'm okay with the pans being different, to me that shows that they are using the same formula as the tubes and that they're pigment heavy. I think you have to add plasticizers to make all the pigments behave in a similar fashion, not that that affects the quality for good brands like Schmincke. Many of my handmade paints act in a similar way, some shrinking, other not so much. I hope DS is able to up production for outlets like Blick and Amazon, but I thought it was cool that they distributed to independant art stores first.
Schmincke uses the same formula in both their pans and tubes.
I have a Sennelier set and they shrink too.

I hate it when they come out like that! I put a small glue dot in the pan and just glue them in!

I bought this set and I'm happy with it as well. There are only a couple of colors in the palette that I didn't already own in tubes, and I did take out a couple of colors and rearrange the layout of mine. However, I bought it purely for the palette to be honest. I figured I can refill the pans with my tube paints when I run out. Denise from In Liquid Color did a side by side comparing her DV palette to this one (th-cam.com/video/m67c_r7qQwM/w-d-xo.html). So it was cool to see your video today as well. I really like the content on your channel by the way. Your videos are really down to earth and enjoyable.
