With the world ppumping out any number of modern, safe (therefore heavy, & majorly assisted) hot hatchbacks these days, Rob's build is a breath of fresh air.
TH-cam is full of 1,000bhp Lamborghini/R8 builds, & not enough high revving, naturally aspirated pocket rockets. Rob's C2 VTS is a prime example of the builds we love. He has built this car from the ground up to be abused on track & simply to have fun!

A friend of mine had a red C2 VTS 1.6 16v back in 2009-2010, I owned a Xsara VTS 167hp in the mid 2000s...

I drive a c2 vts in black and out of my many cars ie gtis mondeos BMWs my favourite and longest keeping car is the vts and I love it

960 KG is still quite heavy for a cleared small car, even with the cage. The Engine is only 1.6L. Where did all the weight come from? Empty 1.8t Golf 2 with cage is around 880kg and its a little bit larger than the C2

Easy, the Golf came in 1983, no safety, practicly tin foil. The C2, which is based on the C3, came in 2005, so, safety. Proper crumble zones, reinforced doors and so on.

Can’t speak for others but had a c2 vts myself and not very reliable , solid cars mechanically but suffer from lots of electrical problems .
