I keep seeing comments here and there saying they can't get the frame mesh feature to work. Make sure you are drawing out the hair clump brush first. Then click frame mesh. Just tried it out in the current version of ZBrush (2019) using the Hair Clump brush. It still works fine.
yeah when you draw the curve with dynamesh on, it's gonna have only one polygroup and that's why frame mesh doesn't work. easy fix for this is just to turn dynamesh off before drawing the curve. hope this helps!
I like to sculpt hair the old fashion way just from a dynamesh sphere, sometimes i get some lumpiness in the hair strands from the strokes but it can be fixed with directional smooth and maybe sculptris pro. I see some ppl making the hair like me then they use hair brushes over it like this, wonder if this is indeed better, i like the sculpt approach.
Trouble shooting tip: After framing the clump brush (around 2:35), if I click on one of the curves with the detail brush, it just masks the hair clump and sphere. I then discovered that under curve, you need curve mode turned on... then it worked. Hope this helps someone.
Thank you so much for the free brush! I would’ve really gave you some money, but my parents don’t allow me to buy stuff like that on the internet. So sorry! But you really speared my time with this brush and I hope you’ll accept a genuine thank from me.
Hi! Great tutorial, but i have a little problem: when i try to use the brush the result is a sphere, i cant create a curve, just spheres, and i cant find a solution... someone knows how to fixt that?
Hi there, thanks very much for this great tutorial! I purchased the hair brushes and they work very well following your steps. I'm still playing around with it. Any tips on how to close the pointy end of the hair strand better? I followed your steps for "closing holes" but it still leaves that inside tube with the strands around it. I pulled the individual strands into a sharper point with the Move brush but it seems a bit tedious. Any suggestions would be helpful, thanks very much!
Thank you so much for this video, helped me out a lot. Would you be able to make a video making a complete hair with it? I'm struggling a lot to use this one. :(
For closing holes there is an very easy step 1- zoom in part where u want to close the holes 2- just hide tht rest of the part just keep the mesh u want fill ur holes with a part of it 3- go to zbrush tab chose Ur z-modeler brush 4- zoom in all the way to the part where u can see tht u can select the edges or points of tht mesh where the holes are 5-hover Ur mouse or pen to one of the edges where the hole is a vertex or an edge u will see a white line is there when u select an edge 6 - press space-bar u will see a tab appears on bottom left side u will see there is an option closed holes and beneath tht u will see tht either u want convex or concave closed holes chose what u prefer 7 - now after u chose click on tht edge where u had seen tht white line u will see tht holes are closed properly in and out and also delete parts if u have some hidden geometry 8 - dynamesh/z-remesh it Ur choice cheers u have now closed the holes in Ur mesh. Hope this helps !!
Strokes haven't appeared at all. Could you update the tutorial please for those who have the problem with that? Was not strokes seenable at all during the polyframe view then it didn't appear more after pushing the frame mesh... Thanks
hi! Nice tutorial, but I cannot seem to use your brushes. Hairclump works as an IMM not a curve...and the detail brush also doesn´t work on framed curves..Do you know where could be the problem?
As mentioned in the video, these are Marthin Simny's brushes, you might want to ask him. The only thing I can think of is to make sure that you are on the most up to date version of ZBrush (4R8 P2 currently). Also, you can turn on curve mode in the curve menu to convert your IMM brush into a curve brush.
thanks for the tutorial. Can you tell me, why my brush only paints hair in one polygroup? I want to have mutliple polygroups on one hair strain so I can follow your tutorial
Not sure without images. Try running an auto groups function after drawing the hair. If you are still having trouble, join the ZBrush Discord and post there with images.
For some reason when i press the "M" button i don't get to choose between the 2 types of clumps, instead i get the quick pick option with the basic 3D forms. I use the default zbrush Shortcuts, is there any other way to get to choose the type of clump?. I only get to make a large curvy plane or a chain of basic 3D forms, and cannot find how to choose the clump
@@Follygon Thx) But trouble was in so simple think that hard to quickly understand xD My problem was in DynoMesh. On Dynomesh objects curves creating without polygroups) But thx for answer =D
so im trying to make the detail part and when i click on frame mesh the strokes dont appear like in the video only in the border of the begging and the end , can someone help me ?
Click frame mesh while you still have the original curve on the brush. Just tried it out in the current version of ZBrush (2019) using the Hair Clump brush. Works fine.
@@Follygon ok i tried again in the 4R8P2 version but the orignal curve desappear and just are 2 on the end and the begging (are cicles) im doing something wrong ?
did you verify that you had not activated dynamesh before using the brush? on my side that's what's going on :) I hope you have found the solution to your problem since all this time !
My brush is created by the face, and the M key is not the same as what you come out. I tried all the buttons. Do you know how tired it is to learn to use translation subtitles
Soo... I have a little problem here. If I use this brush on objects surface that have dynamesh applied, my clumps insta dynameshed and i can't use polygroups as intended :( Any solution? Anyone?)
Solution: dynamesh button off mode -> 'MAg hair brush' polygroup activate! ->they appear as not circle :-) (My English isn't very good,so please understand)
so i think i was making something wrong soo or this guy explained like shit in the frame mesh part or the creator modify how to make the lines appear whatever its doesnt works

@@maikymadnesskreation8646 I have the same problem.
I had the same problem but you can solve it by turning off the dynamesh opcion and then do the hair clump and the fiber mesh option :)

this brush makes strange geometry from below - there are two gaps and I don't know how to fix them
Hello! There is no hair brush on gumroad, that you showed in thise video.
The link in the description still works, is still free, and hasn't changed in over 4 years.
@@Follygon Thank you! Sorry, I'm missed up.
would this work for facial hair do you use a different technique for stylized facial hair for male characters?
hi how can I drawing out the hair clumb brush ? befor apply the frame mesh? thx

Can you post the link where to download Zbrush
Dynamesh on mode -> MAg hair brush polygroup not activate
Dynamesh off mode-> MAg hair brush polygroup activate!

it's not working for me, it just creates flat spheres instead of hair strokes
I have the same problem
Hi
When you pressed the M key, you got two options for the hair clump brush.
I am not getting that!!!
Can you help?
Neba Ali some shortcuts are different between windows and Mac. Search for ZBrush shortcuts for your keyboard and try it again. :)

Does anyone know why it goes really laggy when i try to sculpt on the hair afterwards? If I try to zremesh it in everything goes bad

This is an very easy and very good tip for closing holes in zbrush
This is cool man ! Can u make a video on facial hair please?
it's not possible to download the brush
Hey dear Follygon! I absolutely love your workflow and start to build it into my characters and it works :3
You need to delete your curves before drawing the next stroke.
Stroke >> Curve Functions >> Delete
As always quality stuff :D looking forward to the next one
Thanks, Indie!
Can I reselect a previous curve after making a new one?
as long as the curve is still under the geometry, yes
What's the brush name??

Try updating to the newest version of ZBrush. It's free.
is there a way i can convert my MAg hair strand's internal volume and populate it with fibermesh ?
You could mask the geo and apply fibermesh along the length of the strand. Just depends what you are trying to accomplish with the final geo.
what are those cubes on your wall?
Sound dampening foam because my room echoed like crazy when I moved in
oh I GET IT NOW YOU NEED TO GET OFF THE DYNAMESH I ALREADY CHECK IT I HOPE THIS CAN HELP TO ALL

Sounds like you might be clearing your mask and then attempting to clear your mask again, which automatically activates Dynamesh.
they appear as circles : / doesnt work at all.
