    6 hours if playing an intense war game, Alexander is still in sweater and tie--a true gentleman warrior!

      Came home from work and Grant already came over and had it set up, we dived right in!

    GREAT review guys. You get through the basics smoothly and easily. Your banter is natural and friendly, like you guys game together every chance you get. Cheers. And I loved the invoking of the Three FOW. Nice. The best review I can give you is that I'm seriously thinking of buying this game based on your review.

    I don't know if you guys are familiar with Herman Luttman's Civil War games that use a very very similar system (the "Blind Swords System") that came out from Revolution Games. I own the first 2 (3rd one is set to come out in May), but have only played Stonewall's Sword and it's a fantastic game/experience. I think those are a little bit easier to play as well and highly recommend checking them out.

    This review and the play through by The Blue Tweezers convinced me to purchase. I am definitely enjoying learning it. The VASSAL module is quite nice as well.

      If anything I think the game is underrated due the subject matter. It's a fascinating game to play using the excellent blind-swords system.

    I should always wear a tie when I play games, so everyone understands I mean business :)

      The intimidation factor goes a long way for me. Dressing well reinforces the fallacy that I know what I'm talking about, so it's easier for to talk Grant into conceding even when he has the upper hand.

    By the way. if you like "At Any Cost: Metz 1870," you might also like two other games in the "Blind Sword" series: "Stonewall's Sword: The Battle of Cedar Moutain" and "Thunder in the Ozarks: The Battle of Pea Ridge." In addition, a fourth "Blind Swords" game will be published in a couple of months. It's ""Longstreet Attacks: the Second Day at Gettysburg." All of these games were designed by Hermann Luttmann and published by Revolution Games.

    Maybe I've missed it, but I'd really like to know you guys' history with wargaming, maybe in a video or blog post. I know Alexander has said he's got a brief career as a wargamer on another vid - you both have a hell of a lot of enthusiasm which I think is weirdly lacking in some of the wargaming community - I've only been into these amazing games for about 4 years and I'm often surprised at how little discussion there is about some of them. Keep it up!

      Each of us has been playing these deeper wargames four 4-5 years but played lighter fare wargames, such as Axis and Allies, Fortress America, Conquest of the Empire, prior to that. We will consider doing that type of video. I really wish I had played more wargames in my teenage years but I was really into Dungeons and Dragons and spent most of my free time with my group playing endless campaigns and mega dungeons every Friday and Saturday night.

      Nothing wrong with D&D, which of course has its roots in wargames too! Cheers for the reply, looking forward to that video.

    I have no idea how you guys crank through so many games. You must have your head in the rulebooks for a solid 10 hours a week.

      Truly I feel like I spend a lot of time reading rules. I have a couple of rules books on the go right now, and typically have a rules pdf of something on the computer at work for break times etc.

    My curiosity can't take it. What is a Moulin a Cafe (coffee grinder) event?

    • @ThePlayersAid
      @ThePlayersAid  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The Moulin a Cafe event gives the a single French combat a positive x3 column shift whilst reducing the chances of Prussian morale saves. However this expends a lot of ammunition and puts an "ammunition problems" chit on the french forces. I'm not sure if the coffee grinder refers to them being hopped up on caffeine, or if the sustained fire was like putting the Prussian troops through the coffee grinder.
