    What has always impressed me about COIN is they’ve never compromised on historical accuracy or fidelity to source. Insightful, fascinating, and interesting, always. As frustrated as I’ve gotten trying to work my way through seemingly impossible situations, I’ve always come out of it learning something.

    Looking forward to seeing this in person! Initiative system is used in Gest of Robin Hood too. Puts a lot more focus on events than standard COIN which helps with the theme!

    Another good review!
    I have been eyeing "Coin" games for a long time and will be pre-ordering this one thanks to your recommendation of it being a good introductory version!

    Both Palestine and Cyrus are linked to the political will map, but provincial control (as in Kenya/Malaysia) is not relevant. Palestine however has a bunch of cards which can really swing PW down to zero, Exodus for example or the King David double-terror attack. As such, I found this scenario much more swingy and card-dependent than the Cyprus map. As well, Palestine was a more complex situation than just Irgun vs. British, so probably deserves the standard 4 player (Irgun, Haganah, British, Palestinians) Big Box treatment.Still I'd be keen to see the other campaign boxes one day have their own British Way Part II game (Gold Cost, Burma, Nyassaland and Suez)

    Based on my one solo play of Palestine (playing both sides) I'm not sure that there is a Tug-of-War over Political Will. My impression is that the Political Will is inevitably going to decrease massively over the course of the game, and the number of Irgun Cells is also going to decrease, making it harder for the Irgun to act. If we stick with the Tug-of-War analogy, then the rope is overall heading in only one direction, towards zero Political Will. The British can only win by slowing down the inevitable loss of PW and the Irgun can only win by forcing PW loss at a fast enough rate.

    • @ElGrandoCaymano
      @ElGrandoCaymano ปีที่แล้ว

      I think they're referring to whether terror and sabotage can be avoided over the Prop round, but I still agree with your point: PW just continues to drift down to zero, which decides the winner. I'd probably deduce that the British player was the winner in their play.

    Would you describe this as a best entry-level COIN? Also, with 2 players in mind, would you prefer The British Way or e.g. Cuba Libre with each player controlling 2 factions? What gives you a better gaming experience?

    • @ThePlayersAid
      @ThePlayersAid  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      For two players you should get this. Cuba Libre is fine at 2 players but will always shine brighter at 4.

    • @bushibayushi
      @bushibayushi ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ThePlayersAid so TBW with 2 players is better than Cuba Libre with 2 players playing two-handed game? I'm asking this because I'm wondering if TBW still has interesting interactions between just two factions vs four factions that are always present in Cuba Libre (but playing two sides might be exhausting).

    • @ThePlayersAid
      @ThePlayersAid  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@bushibayushi Playing two sides isn't that bad, especially in a small game in Cuba Libre, but you lose a lot of having full fixed alliances. The British Way does what it does really well, and you can parley a lot of that knowledge into other titles if you like it.

      Unless of course you mean Scotland the Coloniser, with James Murray, of East Lothian, Governor of Quebec 1764-68, or the 7th Earl of Hopetoun, Marquis of Linlithgow (my home town), and the first Governor General of Australia? Or Edinburgh’s Sir James Fergusson, 6th Governor General of New Zealand, and Banffshire’s Patrick Duncan, 6th Governor General of South Africa? Or the founder of the Imperial British East Africa Company, Sir William Mackinnon, from Argyllshire? I was probably confused by the tone you used, as if to imply that Scotland had itself been colonised, rather than being completely, willingly and proactively complicit in global imperial colonisation for literally hundreds of years.

      @Zakalwe-01 Well I must say I'm flattered that you've given my comment such consideration, it's clearly had a deep impact on you. But please don't berate yourself, you definitely weren't confused. Well done too for coming up with such an extensive list of five names, and in only 3 days too! That must have taken quite a bit of work, and I appreciate the effort.

    I think Ireland whould be a very interesting and probably popular one?
    So it is Palestine without any Palestinians it seems. Also Israels map after 1967. WOW. I just hope I get the wrong impression...

    • @scrangazas1902

      Ireland (1919-1921) will be featured in the planned expansion (assuming sales are good). As the rules explain, (available on GMT's website), the Palestine game focuses narrowly on the struggle between Britain and Irgun from 1945-1947. It focuses on the counterinsurgency tactics against the Jewish insurgency during the period and doesn't focus on larger struggles between the Jewish Agency or Palestinian Arab groups. It is explicitly not trying to capture all the complexities of the end of British Palestine (which would require a far larger and more complex game outside the scope of the multipack format). One reason the game doesn't focus on Palestinian political groups is that many were still recovering from the brutal repression of the Arab Revolt (1936-1939). The Arab Revolt (1936-1939) will be included alongside Ireland in the planned expansion. I've actually designed most of it already. To the point on the map, the map was based on historical maps of British Mandatory Palestine.

    • @PMMagro
      @PMMagro ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@scrangazas1902 Ireland sounds great! I guess it whould be a three sided Palestine then, unfitting. I was shocked but see it is a sperate Arab revolt scenarion then.
      Sorry to have been so negative (without seeing teh real game).

      Are any other conflicts in the expansion?

    • @joedewhurst1187
      @joedewhurst1187 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@JohnSmith-co1cp yes, two others, one re-using one of the original British Way maps, and another on a different 'end of empire' conflict. So it would be one new double-sided map board, plus two new games using two of the British Way maps.

    • @scrangazas1902
      @scrangazas1902 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@JohnSmith-co1cp Since I've already give this away on BGG, I might as well given a more precise answer than Joe, the other one using a British Way map would be Malaya during the Japanese Occupation where the precursor to the MCP insurgency, the Malayan Peoples' Anti-Japanese Army, and British Force 136 worked together against Japanese forces. Alongside Ireland, the other new map would be Aden Emergency covering the conflict in the city itself and the Radfan region. Again, these are in the works, but there is not yet a guarantee GMT will be interested so best to focus on enjoying the base game now. I mainly bring up the expansion since I particularly want to do the Arab Revolt game given the narrow focus of the Palestine game in the base multipack.
