As someone who played the Sims 2 a _lot_ (see: far too much) back in the day, it is immensely amusing to watch someone far less familiar with it play. It's also nostalgic; the Sims 2 Open for Business did a lot of things better than the corresponding Sims 4 packs: you can run home businesses, setting many items for sale is much more time efficient (too much clicking in the Sims 4), the existance of the "make many" interaction for mass producing goods to sell, and being able to fill the roles for running a resteraunt with your own player-controlled sims (cook, waiter, etc.). Don't get me wrong, I love the Sims 4, but there are a lot of things I miss from the Sims 2.
I hear ya there! So many quality of life gameplay and small details of Sims interacting with objects or one another in ways that seemed much more real & lifelike.
Don't forget that when Sims buy something at your store, they actually buy it and when you switch to their household it will be in their inventory! In the Sims 4 it's just pretend buying. Also, I love how they line up at the counter instead of just standing around waiting for the cashier to come to them.
I love how he didn't realize having spoiled sandwiches was hurting the store 🤣 Sims 4 has made things so easy and inconsequential that playing early games can have a steep learning curve 🙂
Sims 2 will always be the GOAT. I grew up playing this game and it makes me so happy to see someone discover it after so long.
I really felt that moment that Basil wandered off screen and started sobbing after dealing with people. Ha. But really, super cool to see Sims 2!

Open for Business is one of my favourite expansions, over all the Sims games! I really don't understand how they screwed up running a business (especially shops) so badly in Sims 4, after doing such a great job back then. Also, I'm getting strong Peasantry to Royalty challenge, merchant house vibes from this build 🙂
I gotta binge watch that one bcuz I missed the whole thing!

As a kid, I used to make a home business with tickets to enter my house so people would just show up and pay to visit my home. XD
Did you set anything for sale or did they just view all your personal things like a museum exhibit? 😂

Very interested to know Basil’s personality as he seems argumentative which won’t help your selling! You could try owning a gym or nightclub. Making the car and setting it for sale like James did seems very good for dosh. Adore watching you and playing the Sims2 is a special thing, thanks from mum and I as ever! 😘
Basil is hot-headed in Sims 4 and the same in Sims 3 so I think that Doc made him mean. (That would be a reasonable "dump stat" so to speak. lol) It's usually not an issue in Sims 4 but like you said, earlier games had consequences for bad traits which was great.
My other guess is that Basil is pretty neat. I think that's one of his other traits in Sims 4 and I think that's what Doc did in Sims 3 but I could be wrong. So, Basil is mean, neat, and serious (as opposed to being nice, a slob, and playful.) I forget the other options in Sims 2... and of course it's a spectrum in 1 and 2!
Edit: forgot to add but those are all great suggestions! I'd also love to see Basil running a restaurant and eventually going on vacation in one of the shabby hotels lol.
This is giving me nostalgia but also making me appreciate the Sims 2 from your first timer eyes. Hope this little mini series continues.
Loved it ❤ Please play more but make the price low to build reputation and earn more stars. Once you're making money you can raise prices lol. Also please make stuff! Flower arranging or pottery will do! Did you know you can also sew? 😉
Also add Bluewater village and visit some stores there for inspiration lol. I hear Malcolm Landgraab owns a bunch of businesses there... ;)

Open for Business is one of THE best expansion packs of the whole franchise! It's honestly sooo much fun to build up your own shop. I once had a little pink bakery and it was adorable :D
Hi 👋🏻 Doc! I am loving that we have an iteration of Basil in almost all the Sims games. Next, ya gotta tackle Sims 1 & Sims Medieval. They need a Basil, for sure! 😆

The sims 2 was my game, I've spent thousands of hours playing it an I loooove to watch you discover it in it's full beauty ♥ With the map you can access secret locations when go on a vacation, but with that said - DIG MORE! And get employees so you don't have to take care of the register and have time to DIG MORE O:)

The sims 2 is one of my friends main game and i know about it from her but i never knew what anything really looked like or whatever untill i saw you playing
Why can we not have a refresh of the Sims 2. I logged thousands of hours on that game. There are definitely things I would not mind seeing brought into the sims 4, like the food for example.

LOL Basil's business practices would fit in so well where I live. The local hotel doesn't allow locals to book a stay, they would much rather have tourists come. Given some of the reviews though, I feel like if they could water balloon people they would!

I remember an exploit with the makeover chair. If you didn't have someone tasked to provide makeovers, and someone decided to buy a makeover, if you increased the price for makeovers, the customer would pay the new price. So you could set a makeover to be cheap, customer decides to buy a makeover, then increase the price to like 100k simoleons, the customer would then pay the 100k 🤣
