  • Day 79 of #The100DayProject . My theme this year is Inspired by + one of your suggestions.
Today's suggestion was made by Shirley and Sarah : Inspired by : mum. I created an altered tin turning it into a cute little sewing box. Mum loves old tins and boxes, cutter quilts, birds and sewing.

What a sweet project. I don’t have any old quilts or tins but I’m going to keep my eyes open....when I feel it’s safe to go looking again. That deeper things would be a great sewing kit to take on the road in our camper van, when we can travel again. I would put the pin and needle cushion in the lid (plain backing), and put threads and needle threader, and tiny embroidery scissors in the bottom. Very cool!

Rachel, what a wonderful project, and what a find between the quilt fabrics (even the unmentionables !!) Your mom is going to love it, as will you with yours. For me, I can't stop wrapping fabric -- I've been washing my craft fabrics from the attic before I pack them -- I've been trying to do things like snip off buttons, etc. -- I love making these fabric baskets -- your tutorial is perfect; everything you said is relevant. I'll try to put up a little video to show if I can do it, anybody can do it -- boy, I wish we had an ikea close by here -- the closest one is up near DC, a 2-hr drive assuming you don't hit traffic. I have a dr's appt. tomorrow and wanted to slip that book in the mail to you, the post office is right there, but we're still having unrest and large protests even in the daytime -- when we moved here 4 yrs. ago, this area was perfect, it was quiet, very centrally located and very safe -- and last night 3 people were shot and 2 died at the end of the street where my son walks to work (by his own choice; says he likes the exercise) -- as much trouble as it's been, I'm glad we're moving -- we're on to apt. complex No. -- I've lost count -- they actually have apts. available on July 1st -- we're supposed to be out on the 30th, but I think they'll give us an extra day -- if not, I'm coming to Italy to live with you and glory in your fabric collections and your MIL's famous cooking !!! Hugs, Patricia

You haven’t even started the tins but you have shown your quilt pieces and I already love this project. I need to paint a couple of round tins I have. I think they would be so cute for this project. I have several old quilts but they are whole quilts. I need to get one that I could cut. Mine were made by my grandmother and great grandmother. Just couldn’t cut them. I have one that is filled with cotton batting and the cotton seeds were not removed. It’s a little lumpy very lightweight summer quilt. One I have is so heavy it weighs your feet down. I have one crazy quilt made from silk fabric but it is very fragile. Have loved quilts for many years.
