    One other thing that could help if you need a vertical node layout is changing the default to vertical. If you go to the menu bar and click Fusion > Fusion Settings > Flow, there is an option to change the flow direction from Horizontal to Vertical.

    As someone who used to do layered composites in after effects, this is a comprehensive translation into nodes and flowcharts. This answered all the questions I had and now I can just setup and animate the layers individually.

    Just like that. I spent all morning figuring how and what do all the color coded arrows do and why there aren't any layers here.
    And this is surely a lightbulb moment. MANY THANKS!!

    This is exactly what I've been saying to people who come from AE or similar. Flipping back and forth with the foreground and background inputs with Ctrl+T really helps solidify this visual as well. Yes, nodes are daunting at first, but they become so much more intuitive.
    Also, Sam is not wrong.

    I've done the switch from PP and AE to Resolve but have been hesitant to open up Fusion because I just did not get the node workflow - no matter how many videos I watched. You sir, have managed to make sense of it in 5 minutes! Thank you 🙏

    I've been stuck playing around with nodes for hours trying to figure it out for myself (trying to put an animated text message popup over one of my videos) and I finally gave up and watched a video - thanks so much for saving me an extra few hours with this!

    I had this lightbulb moment about a month ago and I've been working so much more easily in fusion. And I also realized, instead of copying the MediaIn node multiple times, I can just send the output to several other nodes.

      yes this is exactly, in my opinion, the most relevant and in some cases problematic difference: with nodes you have no idea where things start or finish in time

    The problem I have is not the layer order, it is working with audio and timing the layers in nodes.
    For example, you have a list of things following the audio. Each new line comes on and the previous line may blur or change color or opacity as the total page of graphics builds.
    Easy to see and do in layers, but more complicated in nodes.
    I would love to see an example done in Fusion.

  • @LetsTalkAboutReaper
    @LetsTalkAboutReaper ปีที่แล้ว

    I'd be curious to see some tutorials for working in Fusion with content that is not the same size as the timeline. For example, you have 4K footage and want to make a TH-cam short. Your footage is contiguous and you need to edit the content not only to fit the vertical resolution but you also need to trim content and use fusion to pan and zoom around the content. As if you were making a tutorial and using a screen cap, but wanted to make a short to focus on one point.
    If you edit your content on the timeline to fit the resolution, you lose what is "out of bounds" by bringing it into fusion because it is immediately cropped to timeline resolution.
    You can use an adjustment clip on the layer above but that can present some additional confusion and problems of its own.
    What's your best practice for this type of scenario? How do you retain full resolution inside of fusion without having to drag direct from the media pool?

  • @Tekkerue
    @Tekkerue ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Another thing you can do is group your 'layers' together to collapse them down into a single node. This gives a bird's eye view of the entire composite, just like you would get by looking at the basic layers without seeing all of the excruciating details going on inside of each layer.

    While I understand how Fusion works, I still find that working with text is still much more involved and complicated than with After Effects, even in the edit page. And I’ve been using Resolve for almost 2 years now. I really wish they’d have a redesign of how text customization works. Because this is one area I really miss from Adobe is the Essential Graphics Panel, which really streamlined text and basic shape graphics.

  • @KaarloMedia
    @KaarloMedia ปีที่แล้ว

    Two comments / questions:
    - Is there any way of adjusting the curves of several keyframes simultaneously in Fusion? I have found that you can smoothen the curves with a hotkey, yes, but can't drag more than one keyframe at any time to customize them. This is a big loss in comparison to After Effects.
    - When repeating but still modifying graphical elements in a timeline it would be helpful to copy and paste the fusion node tree to a new fusion composition. However, the animations within the nodes follow a timecode, so when you paste the nodes with their keyframes to a different part on a timeline, the node lengths in the keyframe window are all kinds of wrong and the fusion composition "breaks" in a way.
    - It would be quite helpful for some applications to get a node length be "infinite" so it would be always active no matter the adjustments to a fusion composition length.

    How do I change the blend mode in fusion. I'm placing tracking text on a clip, then masked it so it's on the sky (background)... Lastly I want to blend it so it looks like it's behind glass of vehicle. I cannot seem to figure out how to change the blend mode for the text. BTW your tutorials are awesome. I've watched a TON of them to make the videos for my channel. I'd have never got started in Resolve w/o them! Thanks!!!

    This approach would only allow you to make changes to entire duration of clip though correct? If I add text using just the normal edit layers, I can adjust how long I want the text to show within the clip. For example I may want the text to appear for only have of the clip. I can simply adjust the length on the text in the edit layers. Can you do that using nodes?

    • @CaseyFaris
      @CaseyFaris  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yep you can do the same thing in the keyframes panel. Just trim each node to appear where you want it to be.
