Something left out of the advice on using stabilizer. After adding to the tank, drive it about 15 miles to get the stabilized fuel into the engine. You want it in every part of the fuel system.

@@freedomring4813 you made two important points. Non-ethanol, and you put some stuff in it. About this time last year I had a 12 day power outage. Now I keep non ethanol, stabilzed fuel on hand. That said, I don't keep it that long. About a half gallon in October. If I don't use it, I top the 1 gallon can off with fresh gas, and use it for the lawn mower.

When my dad bought a '91 Toyota Truck, the gas in the tank was about 5 years old. Boy did that stuff sting when it got on me. When I dropped the tank, I didn't realize that the tank had more than two or three gallons of gas that I put in to try and start it on. Little did I know, that old gas rusted the sending unit until it was just the rivets and float without circuitry. The level gauge said it was empty, but it was actually full. I started using that old stuff diluted with new gas only in the lawnmower and other carbureted small engines and only had to clean the carbs a few times because it was sitting for a while after that. It was a lot worse when my mom decided that she wanted to get rid of a bunch of it by putting it in her '09 sienna. The in tank fuel filter was clogged so bad with that old gas, that it was starving the engine of fuel.

I only use stored fuel for my generator. Occasionally it will clog one of carburetor jets. However, it’s a simple Honda engine cleaning the.jet. Is a piece of cake. Don’t use gasoline on a fire. The fumes will ignite before the gas and you can get seriously burned. This happened to a friend of mine and he spent three weeks in the hospital.

I’d retract that. Too many people are so used to using lighter fluid on a charcoal grill. Gasoline reacts very differently and most people will put themselves at risk.

If you buy 100% gas and it is 5 years old how can you use it? If you cannot how do you dispose of it? Have a old tank my dad had and hate to use it as he was always having trouble with his vehicle!

Put the old gas in your oil tank for your boiler. Use it to heat your house.

The problem is not the gasoline, it's the ethanol. People can find conventional ethanol free gasoline for sale. Or, they can remove the ethanol from E-10 gasoline by mixing it with water and carefully separating the water/ethanol from the gasoline. Fuel stabilizer, I use Startron. I put it in all the gasoline engines that I store for winter. It will shield the gasoline from the ethanol water in a fuel tank for months. We don't need the ethanol, but farmers, politicians, oil companies, etc., have gotten it to the point that 1MMBBL's per day are going into gasoline while we are exporting 1MMBBL's per day of oil. Go figure! Ethanol is the problem!!!

I had leftover gas for my lawnmower sitting around and I thought I would put it in my old Toyota. Big mistake. Check engine light started appearing and will not turn off. I'm not buying a new catalytic or replacing all the sensors.

That's strange, I've stored non ethanol gas for well over a year. Put some additive in it and put it in my HEMI. Gee ,no problem.

was it because it was old or because the lawnmower gas was already mixed with oil?

Unless you use 20 year old gas from one abandoned car in another abandoned car that's been sitting twice as long

Take it to your municipality's hazadous waste disposal. A bonfire will work too, but that's a recipe for third degree burns. If possible, call 911 in advance so first responders will already be there by the time you're on fire.

Ethanol gas is intentionally made to be trash. Planned obsolescence's little helper.
