GREAT DIVIDE TRAIL: solo on Section B

  • I started section B on July 27, 2020. The walk out of Coleman was hot and anxiety-filled. I was having a hard time adjusting to hiking after a restful day at a Safe Haven B&B. But the more I walked into the mountains, the more calm I started to feel. This section took me 8 days to get to Boulton Creek Campground.
    As I hiked, my anxiety slowly started to ease. It was on this section that my mind and body learned to adapt to living on trail. I had some incredible highs and some challenging lows. Join me on this wild journey.

    • @KrystaNorwick
      @KrystaNorwick  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question! Some days I was completely alone. But some sections near the popular fast hiking trails there would be lots of people! Generally, I’d see people on the first and last days of a section, and very few in the middle days.

    At 4:28 you mention ditching your bug layers when the wind picks up. What do you use for bug layers and did you use any bug spray? I have a bug jacket but I have actually never used it (even though I almost always bring it lol) and I rely mostly on bug spray but I really don't like how sticky bug spray makes my skin feel.

      @@KrystaNorwick I am a day hiking, so far, my max distance has been 11 k this year. Like you, I am always second guessing myself, as if I am on the right trail or not. I also like how you used the gear you already have, its hard to justify buying new gear just because of its weight.

    Hey you are really brave to go alone into the wild. I think it's quite normal reactions you gave. The loneliness can be scary. You have to remind yourself that the world we life in other people are always around the corner. And if not, the safety of a home makes up for that. Also may I ask what you do for filtering your water?
