- Hey guys, today we have a 2004 Toyota Sienna. Some major service is being performed. A/c compressor failed, water pump is leaking, and we have a Timing belt that is well over-due. We go through a step-by-step process on how to replace the A/c compressor, timing belt, water pump, drive belts, how to setup the engine so it's safe to remove timing belt, how to remove a stuck crank pully with the correct tools. Then we double check the timing. There will be tips-and-tricks so pay attention. Enjoy!

The timing belt recently broke on my 2000 Camry. Distance is not the only factor, the rubber tends to perish with age (if not driven frequently). A non-interference engine, and all sorted now with no damage.
'99 Camry with the 3.0. 425,000+ miles. I changed what I think was it's second belt at around 311,000 miles. That belt was really cracked but didn't fail. I'm the 3rd owner. I know the second owner and he never changed the belt. He bought the car with it just over 100,000 miles.

Man I forgotten about that 3.0 I used to love slapping filters on those things because they were quite easy as long as the manifold is cool… on the 3MZFE I used to be able to put plugs on the back half without removing the manifold as long as the coil packs were only in the front I think in mid engine cycle refresh they put coil packs in the back half underneath the intake manifold..

One thing I did with a gas engine was to pull the spark plugs, makes turning it over by hand easier. With a diesel, removing the glow plugs also works.
Might not have been worth the hassle to remove the rear 3 plugs I would imagine.

I hate, hate, hate timing belts. I did the one on my 90 Dakota at 100,000 in 1993... The 2.5 had bolt holes in the cam pulley to hold it in place, I still got it wrong. My mechanic re timed it and replaced the tensioner for me. I did the water pump the following summer, no need to mess with the timing belt.

I despise belts in general and serpentine belts even more. Why I'm probably going with a Moto Guzzi as my next bike. First no chain, no belt, motorcycle was an '83 GS 650 L, we got along just fine.

I have a 2007 Highlander with 277,500+ miles and been saving up for the next timing belt replacement / 100k maintenance. But last week was rear ended and hoping it is not totaled, but if I need to replace the whole car, *what year did they switch over to a timing chain?* I bought this car at 87k miles 9 years ago. Yes, next car will be a Toyota. (Or Lexas - I'm 62 and retirement is in my future in a couple of years, no more 100 mile round trip commute.) I've been eyeballing a Lexas ES300h.
2008 came with the 2gr i believe.
But 2gr engines are not perfect. The vvti rattle is real

Apart from access...what an easy timing belt job that is! Have you ever done a late Alfa 24V V6 Busso engine CSW?? They suck! Taper fit camwheels, cam locks, crappy thermo-mechanical tensioner that breaks if you look at it funny....

Never understood the use of consumable belts. Chain timing seems to save money down the road.
Dont know what the impetus to change to a belt at the time. Probably not much cost savings or they wanted big dollar repair locked into future

Why doesn't Toyota demand every engine use a timing chain? I'm really surprised by the fact some use a timing belt.
The 2003 and up Camrys use timing chains. I believe the Sienna also the same way. The older models belts are the only ones. I did a chain on a 2003 few months ago.

27:00 My small brain will never understand why that happens, why the lines on the belt no longer line up with the marks on the cam sprockets after rotation. I'm just a diy'er, but that's given me a heart attack in the past thinking I did something wrong
They will line up again. Depends on the engine (particular the number of teeth on the belt and on the sprockets) but it can take many revolutions. Impractical and unnecessary to do it by hand.

What about the front main seal or cam shaft seals? I’ve always had those replaced when the timing cover was off. Did the customer decline or was it not recommended?
Yes, definately should of replaced the 2 cam seals and crankshaft seal. You are 100% correct.

Who knows how much compressor oil is in the system now? Before installing a new compressor, the compressor must be drained of excess oil. There should be the same amount of oil as in the old compressor.

That's dumbsh!t engineering that they put those studs in there like that I can imagine a few years upstate with the car and you'd have to have the tap set ready and an easy out. Those studs alone would make me want to bring that thing right to the shop... Nice work though you made that look easy, isn't there a kit to lock the cams in place so they don't move? LMAO I should have watched till the end!
I hate timing belt jobs, and I`m not a tech. I just keep my own junk running, Like a 2002 Dodge Neon, timing belt was a pain, replaced belt, tensioner, and water pump. And yes, it went bang on first try, that was 8 years ago, still runs with 162,000 on the clock today. Now dealing with a P0172 rich code😠No vacuum leaks, mini cannon fired several times, plugs, map, O2, IAC, and injectors. Damn code still there. Won`t pass Pa. inspection. It`s my daily, stickers dead at end of July, can`t afford a shop, lost my job due to whats going on since Biden🤡 took over.

@@gwats19577 while I do (by far) prefer Toyota over Chrysler. Every car company has its own set of issues, remember when Toyota made a bunch of oil burners from 2008-2011? And those new Tacomas are made in Mexico too. But Chrysler did have its shit together for a short period of time, so credit where it’s due
@@jessepickar3297 it was 2003 thru 2009, affecting 1.8 and 2.4 engines... those oil burners didn't leave you stranded on the side of the road as long you worked the problem... Neons, PT Cruisers were just the top of the Chrysler/Stellantis waste pile.. best product they ever made was the Hellcat engine, but it was better to buy it and install it in something else...😄😄😄😄
