Maura came to St. Louis from the Philippines to be put on display at the 1904 World’s Fair. She soon fell ill and died, and records suggest a world-renowned anthropologist from the Smithsonian Institution’s United States National Museum took part of her brain. Few people would know what happened to her for more than a century.
This story is part of The Washington Post’s investigative series, “The Collection,” which delves into the tens of thousands of human remains still stored by the National Museum of Natural History.

I dont think that americans went to suyoc mines only after world war II. My great grandpops came from US as a carpenter and taught newer ways to do mining at suyoc mines way before world war II.
