  • 40 minutes of beginning and ending of delivery and install of our above ground Storm Master Shelter . Saturday June 20th, 2015.
Never again do I want to relive that tornado threat that almost hit our home 3 weeks ago. New Fairview Texas is in a beautiful part of North Texas and there is a lot of flat land. Mineral Wells Texas reported the touch down of a category 3 tornado doing destruction on its path way headed straight to New Fairview Texas. We only had 10 to 15 minutes of warning. I was awakened by my awesome neighbor trying to call me at 9:30pm. When I realized the seriousness of our plight, I had no time to get my mother out of her bedroom and into our van to head south, or anywhere out of its destructive path. Due to my mothers age and hardship with walking, all was not well in trying to convince her to hurry up and get out of her bedroom. She also has dementia and did not totally understand the seriousness. By the time, (5 to 8 minutes later as she inch by inch made her way to a full van with wife and dog and kids, I knew we might not make it. The news of its arrival was almost at our home. My son came racing over to the van from the house and announced that the tornado made a sharp turn away from New Fairview and now was headed to Denton Texas. We were spared. I was praying for a miracle, God gave us that miracle and we had a chance now to do something we should have done a year ago. Get a above ground shelter.
Because of 3 weeks ago, our lives changed. We are grateful for life and I often wonder if my mother will ever realize how close we came to possible destruction. Thanks to God and thank you Tornado Master for doing such a great job. Peace of Mind is now with my wife Aida and me for not only ourselves but also for my kids and family. Especially my elderly mother. Please do not wait like we did, If you live in Tornado Alley like we do or anywhere where tornado's can occur. Be wise and be safe. My question to you is, "What is more important?" Your life ? or your Possessions!
    Sparks family......

A lot of people dont seem to get the basic principles here.
It protects from falling and flying debris because of the thick walls, it keeps you contained in a room surrounded by the rubble around you in a way that keeps you from being crushed, it will be easy to find for rescue workers and in some places rescue groups have them noted in a database, and finally it opens inward. So that you can get out even if it is piled over in debris. Yes a car going 30 or more mphs or heavy debris will knock you silly even in there but you will live more often then if you were in a wooden closet or a basement.

Here I am, sitting in my home during the pandemic. Being in quarantine gives me plenty of time to view a whole lot of videos to pass the time. I really enjoyed watching this entire operation. Very impressive. I hope you and your blessed family NEVER have to use the shelter but it must be so comforting to know you have it in the event you find yourself in need. I wish you all the best and thanks a lot for the video!

Lots of armchair quarterback comments on here from people who don’t know what the hell they are talking about. We recently installed another brand of shelter very similar to this one. I did a lot of research before we bought and feel very confident in our choice. These are bolted to the concrete in the garage that is tied into the foundation of the home. The bolts they used are made specifically for this purpose. Shelters like these are tested at Texas tech university in their wind lab and are certified. The company we bought from has had 12 of their shelters go through EF5 tornadoes and were still standing when it was over.

The wind is not the issue here so personally i don’t understand the « tested in wind lab » argument, the real danger with above ground shelter is to be hited by something (a car, a truck, a tree or whatever you want).
The risk is minimum and this kind of shelter is a lot better than no shelter at all, yes, but the risk still exist.
I don’t plan to own a tornado shelter because i don’t live in a tornado country, so yes people can say « he don’t know what he talking about » but let’s be honest: if a F5 come towards your home and you have the choice of the two type of shelters in front of you, you will choose the underground one. This is commun sense.

I realize this is an old video but just some input for those looking to do this in the future. In case you're wondering about my expertise, I've been a Commercial Const Superintendent for over 35 years.
    1) I would be concerned with what anchors are used for fastening, especially on garage slabs as many contractors do not give you the full 4 inch slab, personally i use commercial specs and go with a 6 inch slab and thickened edge. When you drill into a slab as you near the bottom it blows out the last bit of concrete, certain anchors will not have the depth to actually lock in place and if you checked they will just spin which means no holding power.
    2) That bit of open slab looks like it has in floor heat piping and if so, i did not see the installer using a thermal scanner to pinpoint locations.
    3) Much of the structural integrity of concrete comes from the rebar. Rebar should be chaired at a specific height though many contractors simply lay it on the ground and try to pull it up during the pour which means it basically just sinks to the bottom and does nothing.
I am not knocking the install or the product, just making observations so folks looking to do this have a little more information on making it as safe as possible. Best of luck to you all.

Since Dec 2019, my wife and I relocated out here to North Eastern Tennessee. Less property tax, less heat as we now get all 4 seasons and my mother has since passed in 2017 and it was time to make changes again. I stand by everything I did for mom and our homestead back there in North Texas. Id change nothing and would still highly recommend the above ground storm shelter for anyone living under those circumstances. Thanks for the comment. Just saw it. @@johndavies7180 The concrete is plenty strong with all of those anchors. That 1/4 inch plate and 2x2 framing makes the shelter extremely strong. It can easily hold 10 tons on top. The 1/4 in plate creates very high shear strength. Actually, the smaller box is the stronger box.
As everybody gets in, the last few sneak past a barely opened door with people already behind it. Just make sure the singing fat lady enters first and comes out last. An out swinging door could and likely would have debris blocking it from opening.

I just downloaded this video off of youtube. I am transfering over to Rumble.com and am known as SparkyforChrist there on Rumble. I believe millions of people will be getting off of utube and Facebook as Rumble is also merging with the new TruthSocial media by President Trump. Regarding an update, There was one that I did a year or 2 later as 10s of Thousands have viewed this video over the years. My mother passed in 2017 as she was the main reason why I had this installed while she was alive and living with my wife and kids back in 2015 there in North Texas. I have sinced moved in Dec 2019 to North Eastern Tennessee and reestablishing our small Tennessean Homestead here. We love Tennessee and it is also considered as a sister state to the Great State of Texas. Thus, I stand by everything I shared back then and would never change anything since. That company that Aida and I purchased the storm above ground shelter, they are incredible and stand by all their shelters. Thanks for your questions and consider subcribing to my new Rumble page and also my utube channel. God Bless and take care. Wayne and Aida

Monica Angle they sure do !!....I live in Tornado Alley ...”Dixie Alley” in Alabama one that came through Sat killed 33 people. Only snapped one of our beautiful century old Oak trees and it’s going to cost us $1800 to have it cut and stacked back towards the back woods. Would cost $2700 to haul away. We have been living here in the woods for 37 years and have many beautiful trees. Had most of the big pines cut down years ago but all the big old oaks, maples, magnolias, and sweet gums are what makes up most of our beautiful woods. Scares me now since storms are so much more fierce than they have ever been!

    • @sparksfamilyhomestead
      @sparksfamilyhomestead  ปีที่แล้ว

Please call Tornado master regarding the thickness. It’s very well made and very thick in the frame. As for our concrete? Not sure how thick the concrete flooring in our garage back then was. Normal thickness and in a Cathryn 5 or 4 scenario, you never see the concrete flooring being raised off the dirt. The heavy duty bolting in the cement that was done was well done and very secured. That shelter gave my wife and I a total piece of mind as back then we lived in tornado alley/North Texas. Since that video and the passing of my mother, we sold that home and have relocated to gorgeous North Eastern Tennessee. But for the several years of having the shelter, Awesome!

Well, while better than nothing, I'd like to see a bit more structural framing to that shelter, such as crisscrossing frames welded between the vertical supports, at least outwards from the four corners. If that house goes, the shelter itself will have to bear the full blunt of the storm, with it's lateral and twisting motion. Also not thrilled with the absence of a floor, with the whole thing just bolted to unknown cement. Like I said, better than nothing.

Here is a copy of an earlier response I made. And, we have experienced close calls with several tornados since its installation. We have not yet have had a direct hit from those tornadoes. But only roof damage. Thank God. Many comments state skepticism about this above ground. This is my response to the skeptics out there that are quick to criticize this shelter and cannot back eith documented proof what they are saying...
Our Journey, Reaching Hands For Christ 2 minutes ago
We had to make the decision for the above ground version as my elderly mother was incapable of ambulating or stepping down any type of stairs. I would have chosen below ground otherwise. We made the right decision for our family and this storm shelter is solidly cemented/screwed deep into the concrete slab. Extremly well built and I'd rather take my chances in it verses any bath room/ understair way senario. We viewed and studied and verified other incredible testimonies of this above ground version. We highly recommend it and have a peace of mind when our area is threatened. When it becomes a life and death moment, we will have saftey in it verses without it. Everyone's doom and gloom statements stand no backing. To many lives have been saved with this above ground shelter. We stand and promote it with Tornado Master.

      A PEACE OF MIND....
      LIVING IN TORNADO ALLY...
Hi Nathan, We have had several tornadoes come near us since we installed the above ground shelter. Yet, none have directly hit us. Also were we live here in North Texas, there still are no sirens to warn us when and if a tornado is headed our way. Sort of scary. But to answer your question, No. We have not had to as of yet to go into it due to the storm threat. But the peace of mind it gives our family is worth it all. We do not regret spending the money to have it installed. It is superior over racing to your bathroom and laying in the bathtub scenario. And it is there, if and when danger threatens our home. I highly advise getting one.
Here's a great question to consider, "How do you value your life and your families lives? Tornado Master is a great company. I will always never regret for putting it in our home.
