Fly fishing for trout, fly fishing for Cutthroat in the Pacific Northwest has been a passion of mine for the last 40 years. I have spent most of my life fly fishing the great Pacific Northwest to include fly fishing in Alaska, fly fishing in Washington, fly fishing in Oregon, fly fishing in Idaho and fly fishing in Montana. I generally will fly fish and practice catch and release when fly fishing for trout, but I have been known to catch and cook during camping trips to many of my favorite fishing spots. I love to fly fish lakes in the higher elevation, though I have a few lowland lakes that are fly fishing only that are also on my most favorite list. I have a ton experience fly fishing rivers for trout and always enjoy discovering new rivers to fly fishing in and around the greater Pacific Northwest. I am also an accomplished at casting a fly rod - whether it is fly fishing casting for distance, fly fishing casting for accuracy, the double haul, roll cast, tower cast and many more fly fishing casting techniques - I can show you the basics when it comes to casting a fly rod. I also will cover many topics that relate to getting started with fly fishing. From your basic fly fishing setups, flies and fly boxes - we cover all the fly fishing needs for beginners. Thanks for taking the time to tune into FlyFishDan and I hope you consider subscribing to my fly fishing channel. Cheers and FISH-ON!!!

But, being from Michigan, I can truly relate to your early fishing experiences of Salmon fishing!
Thanks! It was a great video!

Thanks for sharing Dan. I now live in the Deep South, but have fond memories of my grandfather and I fishing, digging clams and cooking our catch on the beach along Puget Sound near Dash Point. My father died when I was 12 and my grandfather filled a huge hole in my life.

Enjoyed your reminiscing greatly. My story echos yours, though pre-dates it by perhaps fifteen years. I was lucky enough to grow up on the Sound at Titlow Beach (Tacoma) in a time when a seven-year-old could safely wander and pursue whatever passion each day brought. For me it was fishing. It started with Bullheads, Flounder, and Dog Fish with my friends, or oft times, alone on the beach or at the local marinas, loosing incredible amounts of tackle in ways that only a child can manage. My father was always aghast when I'd tell him I'd lost all my lures and line (again and again - (My son now suffers the same fate)). As a young angler grows, the refinement of skills and pursuit of more challenging prey seems inevitable. Bottom fish of my youth became SRCT and Salmon in my teens. Once off to college in Oregon, rare weekend opportunities to return to the salt chuck to prowl my favorite salmon grounds for a day or two of fishing seemed a fine poultice to my more serious endeavors in school.
A lifetime later, having lived and fly fished and gear fished all around the world during my career in the Navy, I'd become something of an obligate trout fly fisher. I picked up and refined the fly tying of my youth and in my fifth decade of life, fished many of the West's most famous streams for virtually every species of Western Native trout. As my Navy career waned, I somehow found my way back to the PNW at Whidbey Island, and later and decided to settle here again, though now SW WA - the home of my wife, and in an area where I felt I could pursue Salmonids in the famous river waters of my surrounding area. The Columbia River has a somewhat similar feel to that of the Sound, though somehow over the years, it just didn't seem to complete my mind's vision of fishing perfection. The Cowlitz, Kalama, and Lewis Rivers spawning runs were ancient history and no longer held my attention. My kids, the product of a grandfather-aged man, recently seem quite a bit more self-sustaining, which in my mind of course, provides just a bit more time for piscatorial pursuits. Though I'm four years from my last high school graduation, I am now seeing some light on the horizon of my less-distant future, which got my mind yearning for Puget Sound again.
Having watched innumerable TH-cam on salmon and SRCT on the fly in Puget Sound, I'd taken to making day trips North to chase my old friends - SRCT and resident Coho of the South Sound, when the massive tide changes there found a fit amongst my ongoing schedule of kid's school activities and daily life here. After viewing a few videos on the subject of fly fishing from skiffs in the Sound, I tried to fight it, but was overtaken by the desire (need) to follow suit. Months ago, I ordered a new skiff perfect for fly fishing - with platforms fore and aft that allows two anglers to cast at whatever shoreline desired without any access restrictions whatsoever. As I repeatedly re-worked the setup after my initial order of the boat, I've now added a quality chart plotter/fish finder and despite being focused on fly fishing for the past forty plus years, I couldn't deny the desire to chase salmon with gear again. Without remorse, I've added two downrigger mounts to the gunnels and have purchased piles of terminal tackle intended only to chase salmon. I'm just a week or two away from my new (and third in the fleet) boat arriving. I'm tying snelled leaders, plug and Hoochie rigs in preparation for the first voyage. As well, I've tied boxes of SRCT and Coho flies because, after all, a fly fisher is what I am. Apparently though, once again, my soul will thrive in chasing Puget Sound's finest fish in whatever manner my mind wants to pursue - as though I'd returned to my childhood days for a second go-round.
    Thanks for the memories!

@@iseeholesinhisgame4203 Hi. I don't do Salmon Charters. I do selective Halibut, Ling, and saltwater fly fishing charters.
