    So true on the major front. You can definitely major in whatever you like as long as you take all the pemed reqs. I appreciate how you share that the application is an individualized process so each student should accurately convey their strengths holistically. Great content!

    Leandra! It is so crazy to hear all the accomplishments you've achieved throughout undergrad. I distinctly remember always seeing you at the gym freshman year because I was one of the only few other girls at the weightlifting area alongside you. Bummer that we never got to connect in person, but I'm glad the internet is a very inter-connected place haha. Really big congrats on all your med school acceptances and thank you for representing us Highlanders well!

    • @leandrad.9774

      This pandemic has made it really difficult for premeds to get involved with activities :( what may help is reaching out to school clubs and attending their virtual events and meetings! Some programs also offer e-shadowing so students can have a better idea of what phsycians do too. For the most part, medical schools should be understanding that the pandemic has limited students' participation in extracurricular activities.

      It's definitely a confusing and difficult time right now. For the most part, I think med schools will be understanding, and they won't hold the pandemic against you. I have friends who applied to schools this year, and applications give you a space to explain how you've been affected by the pandemic. This is an opportunity to be creative and find ways to participate in your extracurriculars virtually while staying safe. I'm sure schools will understand :)

    Speaking for myself and my best friend. We are both Board Certified Anesthesiologists. I guess our entrance into Medical School was easy and simple including our residency. Well, we grew up with doctors all of our lives as children. That how we got in. Plus, we all lived in the same neighborhood here in Bel Air and Bevely Hills. I never had a standard MCAT Score with a 3.2 GPA. Plus, both of our interviews took less that 7 minutes. But we did study like crazy though.

    one question Leandra, do med school take into consideration of how prestigious your undergrad program is? I planned to go to Case Western which is known for unfavourable grading or should I just go to state school for easier grade instead?

When I interviewed at different med schools, I noticed most students were from prestigious colleges, but there were a few from lesser known schools. I did not take a gap year. Many people do after they graduate from college, and it all depends on each specific situation. What would you choose if you have to pick two of the following three classes (Physic, Chemistry, and Biology)?

      All three will have some credit toward college courses, I’d recommend ones that interest you the most. I enjoyed AP bio and chemistry more than physics

    Hello! How soon did you start volunteering at a hospital? Also how soon would you suggest that I start my clinical experience?

    • @leandrad.9774
      @leandrad.9774  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! I started in my third year. As long as you feel comfortable balancing your schoolwork with activities, any time is fine. It’s important to get your experiences in before you apply.

    Thank you for sharing! Congratulations:) I was wondering if you would be open to reading my personal statement for feedback?

      Thank you! I think personal statements should be very personal, so I highly recommend that you ask your closest friends/mentors for feedback since they know you best. That's how I approached my application.

    Do you recommend UCR honors college for premed students

    • @leandrad.9774
      @leandrad.9774  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! I choose to not participate in the honors program, so I don’t have experience with it. I have friends who were in Honors, and they were successful in applying to medical schools as well. It’s up to personal preference!

    What are the courses required for med school?

    • @leandrad.9774
      @leandrad.9774  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It varies from school to school, but I took one year each of English, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Organic Chem, and Math with corresponding labs for some of the courses. I also took some humanities courses that counted toward specific schools’ requirements.

    The Fee Assistance Program only helps a little...so how would you endure four years of medical school and paying the rent each month? Can you help me out and tell me how it is you are paying the rent portion? That I would really like to know. From parents?

      Hi, Med schools often offer some type of merit or need-based scholarships to students. I talk more about my finances in this video: th-cam.com/video/u_kMFHgxKrg/w-d-xo.html

      Loans. Tons and tons of loans. Depending on location, you may need to even take out private loans since the government only gives so much.
