As you said, since it’s a Volkswagen, it’s expected to be a little more complicated than usual however your explanation made it ridiculously simple! Your video worked perfectly for my 2016 VW Jetta! Thanks from DR 🇩🇴
$50 replacement on top of the oil change. Bought the filter for $28 using a coupon from the dealership. Saved $22 for 15 minutes work. And I’m sure it’ll take 5 next time. Thanks$$$
What does the small hose on the back go to? The thing that looks like a cap? Mine is broke and I don't know what it is specifically to have it replaced.
Hopefully you've gotten it by now, but if you have not, I remember it being a pain the first time. I wiggled the hose back and forth, while pulling the direction I wanted to go, as gently as I could using some pliers. Felt like I was going to break something.
@@MattonEverything6000 I did manage to get it! Ended up the best way for me was to first loosen the clamps ,then pop the filter box off the pegs, then remove the hoses. This was obviously the first time I've done it myself but imagine my dismay to see that whoever has been doing it "professional" in the past has managed to break off all but one of the clips along the outside of the filter housing. Usually had it done at the dealer, so I wish I had seen that earlier. Way too late now
Well done video, mate. However, about that $89 your local VW dealer wanted for changing out the filter. The VW dealer in my area did the job last fall for only $35 parts and labor. Perhaps you might want to find another dealer?
@@Chill-eo9pz Those spring clamps are quite stiff, and they really do need to be opened up quite a bit. You can try opening it, and sliding it back onto the hose so it has no chance of clamping down again. I remember struggling with it the first time I did it, too.
From the VW manual, it states that it is to be replaced every 90,000KM (about 50K miles). I'm sure this is fine, but it seemed a bit long to me - I prefer to replace them every other oil change (30,000km).
@@mhsable I mean i got my car from a used dealership lmao the amount of money i overpaid is 2-3x more then what the car is worth. but thats showbiz baby lmao for the people that dont know anything about cars. that job for $85 seems cheap. others easily charge $150+ in California for the same job.
This has to be the most annoying air filter to replace. Wtf VW. Paying the mechanic next time. Definitely worth the cost. My 1.8 tsi golf was incredibly easier to replace. That stupid part to the right of the engine filter broke while fixing my 1.4 tsi jetta. Don't waste your time as I did. Just get a professional to do it. He makes it look easy. It is not, took over an hour to just get those hoses removed. F that paying someone next time.
Was at the dealer today. They wanted $85 to change it out during the oil service. With this video, it only cost us $20. Thank you so much.

@@MattonEverything6000 how about helping me to change the gas filter in my 2016 jetta s 1.4???
@@jorgeromero-nm2fk I would love to help but I’m afraid I don’t have that car anymore :(
This is one of the best well-detailed videos ever! Great job my friend!!!
I appreciate you getting right to the point and being concise. Many other tutorials are unnecessarily long winded. Cheers

Thank you for the super simple explanation. Got my K&N installed. Set it and forget it.
Thanks for the great tutorial. Only took 5 minutes to install and $20 for the filter.
This was incredible. You got every camera shot! Thanks!!
It would have taken me 33hrs to figure this out. Thanks!
On behalf of all vw owners, Thank you, your a Legend. 🙏🏽
Thanks for the video. I watched it then changed the filter. Money saved!
I did it with your help. Thank you! Great video by the way good instructions.
This is a true tutorial. Nice job.
I agree, best simple video instructions. I am going to attempt changing my air filter.
Thank you for your help.
Thank you saved 59 dollars
Will be trying this on my own. Thanks!
great video! I thought my old mazda rx8 took extra steps but this one is a few more. Not difficult though with your video!

Great video man
Greta video and thank you, I dropped you a sub

Will this work on 2019 GLI ????
Any advice for getting those clamp hoses off? Mine don't want to budge at all!

Does this work on a 2019 Jetta?
Much appreciated 👍
One of those hose clamps was EXTREMELY finicky

The little hose at the back?

I feel like I’m gonna break the clamps. I just replaced the rear tail Ight bulb on my jetta and I broke one of those cheap ass plastic clamps .
Yes, I feel like that a lot...it's frustrating when replaceable parts are held with clamps or brackets that are so cheap.
Why tf would i pay 89 bones when i have youtube. Thanks bro
Thank you 👍🏻 and of course VW has to complicate it lol
So long story short, "fuck you Jetta!"
hahahahaha, my 2016 Jetta TSi is my 4th 4 dub. man i love the German drive for the price!
This seems like even I can do it
They certainly didn't make it easy.
They did, I just took off the top without disconnecting anything and taking off the whole thing.
Dealer charges 78 dollar for this, parts and labor

MF jettas! I almost broke mine cause those hidden screws!
You don't need to unplug shit just unscrew and lift cover up slightly and stick the new one in he made it much harder
