    I DID IT!!!!! I did it Leslie!!!! I went for my interview (the one I told you about/the ONLY law firm that reached back out today) and his exact words at the beginning of the interview was "well, you are my first interview and I have to be honest, you are my first because I'm hoping I won't need to do more." My response (I was shocked)😳 I replied "oh, really?!?" And he said "YES! You are the ONLY person that applied (on Indeed) and included a cover letter! Your detail in this cover letter was exquisite and caught my attention for sure! So, I gotta be honest, I'm impressed!"
    So... the interview continued and after about an hour or right under we were done. It was more like a conversation and not an intimidating questions with nervous answers.
    When it was all over as he was walking me out he says "look, I'm going to just cut right to it, be prepared to come in and interview with my parter next week, I think he will agree you'd be a great fit!!"
    OH! EM!! GEEEEEE!!!! I THINK I DID IT!!! I'm 80% sure the job is mine and I couldn't be more excited and more grateful to you!!!! Thank you for your prayers! I've got my foot in the door... now I just have to take a step in!!!

      WOOT!!! Thank You, Lord!! Yep, answered prayer, right? Woo Hoo! Please keep me posted, hon. This looks really good. Cover letters are sooo powerful if done correctly and you nailed it. Can you tell I'm happy and thrilled? Very proud of the effort you made here, Casey. So glad the interview was more like a conversation, too. When it comes to salary, don't take anything lower than what you were making at your former position and hopefully, higher. I've made lateral moves, though, with no raise in order to get the position I wanted, so whatever works for you. How the heck am I going to sleep tonight? Hee hee! Well, congratulations for a successful interview and now on to meeting with his partner! Again, relax and just be you. Prayers will continue, hon. Have a great night! :))

      Well, keep making your videos! People DEFINITELY see them and it DEFINITELY gives the courage and the skills to pursue it!!! If you have ever wondered what your purpose is in life (as we all have a time or two) just know, you touch more people than you realize! I for one am EXTREMELY grateful for your posts and the knowledge and hope they share! So, THANK YOU!!!!
      I will most certainly keep you posted!!! I was SOOOO EXCITED to tell you and you are a total stranger to me! Lol but in a way you're not at all (if that makes any sense).
      My next question is... should I send a thank you letter and/or email for the interview? I know some ppl do and some ppl do not but, apparently some do cover letters and some do not too! Lol (thank goodness)

    • @ParalegalCareerMastermind
      @ParalegalCareerMastermind  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, send a thank you letter asap (today). Be bold and say that you are definitely interested in the position, of course. If you said that during the interview, great. If not, do it in this letter. Attorneys are normally writers (not all) and appreciate someone who communicates this way. It's a type of customer service that they are used to providing, so your thank you letter will not only make them feel appreciated and that you want the job but that you get the whole communication thing. Thanks again for your sweet words. It's amazing once we find our purpose, right? What I love is how the Lord brings people together (yep total strangers, but not!). Just reading your post made me laugh and cry and believe me...I was praising Him for answered prayer. There are simply no coincidences. Regarding folks who do not do cover letters - often times their resumes are disposed of. (Hint, hint to everyone reading this!) lol Can I say that I am beyond proud of you? That you, Casey, took the perverbial "bull by the horns" and went after it. That's exactly what it takes. (Can you hear me applauding?!!) Seriously, girl, there's nothing that will stop you. You've got the skills, the desire to learn, the faith that He will carry you through it all and that push through attitude. You go girl! :))

      lesliewilliams126 I had my second interview! I'm REALLY hoping I had just enough to impress!!! I sent a thank you email after my first. Do I send a 2nd but add his partner this time? The main reason for the 2nd interview was to meet the partner. What do you think? Should I send a thank you to him and his partner for their time?

      lesliewilliams126 sorry I didn't get a notification for your reply. Weird!
      But, YES!!!! I'm so excited!!! It's mostly social security. I start Monday and I'm SOOOO grateful and thankful! Not only for the opportunity and experience but for you! Your kind words and motivation gave me the inspiration to even take this leap! So, thank you Leslie! I know you are a total stranger but in a way I feel God placed you right where you needed to be! I won't go into a sob story but 2017 hasn't been a good year for me. The pain of losing a loved one, losing my job, bills piling high, all while trying to take care of my child and mother were overwhelming to say the least (and still are)! But, I now feel there's a light at the end and I am so excited to keep fighting my way to the end of this tunnel!
      Thank you for your prayers AND keep doing what you are doing! I assure you there are MANY "Caseys" out there that you're helping regardless if it is acknowledged or not! I for one thank God for his blessings and I most certainly thank him for putting you and your videos in the right place at the right time! God Bless you sweet lady! That IS very weird that YT didn't notify you. Oh well...such is technology! lol Social Security will be a great area to work in, I believe, hon. The attorney you first interviewed with sounded super nice and what I'm praying and hoping for is that one or the other of the partners (or both!) will be fantastic mentors/teachers. You're right - you were placed in my life and I was placed in yours, exactly at the right moment in time. There are simply no coincidences. There were many times I just sobbed reading your comments because I knew the Lord was beginning an incredible work. I'm so amazed at what He did. There is definitely light at the end of this tunnel, believe me. In 1998, I lost my youngest daughter (21 yrs. old) in a car accident, so I know that kind of pain - the pain of losing someone so dear. Nothing fills that void, but we can go on, in their honor. Don't worry, you'll slowly dig out of the financial hole and in the meantime, you'll build a beautiful new career. We are strangers no more, hon. God had a great plan and He's not done yet - remember that one! I will definitely look you up on FB and then you'll have to send me a friend request as well, ok? I have a cousin and an aunt who both live in SC (Little River) - you never know when we might meet in person! Woot! That would be wonderful. In the meantime, let's keep in touch with each other. God is soooo good!

      lesliewilliams126 AMEN!!! Every! Single! Day! God is Oh, so good! The fact that of all the events took place when they did alone proves the good Lord was/IS hard at work in me. Sometimes, we tend to not see the Beauty before us in the mists of pain. But I'm a firm believer in Jesus Christ and I have no doubt he is the reason I know your name! The DAY; the EXACT day I was laid off from my job- sat in my car sobbing (I didn't know what I was going to do). Then, I get on TH-cam to watch an inspirational video (I tend to do that when I'm feeling down! Sometime we need God and it's not Sunday. Lol so I turn to TH-cam for a little word of prayer). As tears roll down my face; I KID YOU NOT... your video "how to break in the Paralegal field" (title went something like that. Why was that their? Why did I even click on it? Why were you compelled to make that video? What was God telling me? Or better yet.. what was he telling US? I don't know! I may never know! But, I do know it wasn't a coincidence! And I am forever in his debt! I am beyond grateful to you. So, please don't stop making your videos. Someone one day might need your inspiration like I did that day! 😘
      And if you have any word of advice on Social Security work you've done or personal injury please upload! I love watching and I just absolutely adore you and your positive vibes! I'm definitely not out of the dark just yet. I'm down to my last penny, I'm still trying to comprehend my sister is actually gone, I still worry daily about my mom, and I DEFINITELY worry... what now (at least once a day)?! But, I can at least see the light! I know the struggle will continue and this job won't be easy what so ever! But, I'm blessed and I could not be more grateful to not only the Lord but you!
      So... keep inspiring! Feel free to even use me or my name as proof that if ppl just listen to what you are saying it's not only helpful/viable info, it's life changing!

    • @ParalegalCareerMastermind
      @ParalegalCareerMastermind  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I LOVE how God works! Whew! Thanks for mentioning that it would be ok to share what happened with other folks. Will definitely do that. I'm probably going to do a live video regarding it.
      In your comment above where you said "what was He telling US?" That's sooo right on. He's teaching me, molding me, directing me all the way as well. We're team members, Casey! Woot!
      As I've mentioned in a couple of my videos (at least), He's given us gifts to use for good. One of the gifts I see in you is writing. You definitely have that ability. So, be open to how He's going to use that in the future. I know you will use it in your new job, for sure.
      So, now begins another phase of God's plan for you. As you head toward Monday just breathe and know that you can't know everything at once. It's a journey. After 2-3 months, you'll begin to feel like you're getting the hang of some things. Carry a legal pad with you whenever the attorney wants to meet with you or stops by your desk to give you direction. Place the client name on the pad, so you don't forget who the information is related to and also place the date there as well. Ask questions if things are not clear or are confusing. Don't be intimidated because an attorney is sitting in front of you. He needs your assistance.
      You've got this and He's got you. There were many days (still are!) where I've prayed for God to show me the answer, to lead me. Thy Will be done (check out the video of Hillary Scott singing "Thy Will" on TH-cam - amazing!).
      Sent you a friend request on FB. We definitely have to keep in touch, hon. Woot!!! I'm excited for you!!
      Have a great day, sweet girl. Love, Leslie xoxo :))

    I'm from Trinidad and Tobago. I am almost at the end of my 6 month training to get my Certification (we do not have Diploma or Associates Degree in Paralegal Studies. I've been actively job searching and each vacancy asks for a Paralegal with minimum certification and but most ask for a Law degree. I've also sent my resume to many law firms / companies to get my name out there before and during my Certification, also doing my Diploma in Business Management. I have not received one interview invitation, sadly. I wish it were that way where I could get into a Law Firm without training / experience, but it's just not that way in my country. I regret not looking up these videos before, regardless.

      What many of the certificate courses and 2 year curriculums are missing is teaching the practical side of paralegalism. When you send your resume and cover letter off to any attorney, they need to know exactly how you will help them. Neither a 2 year degree nor a certificate guarantees an invitation to interview because the attorneys know very clearly that quite a bit of knowledge is lacking. Over 30 years, I've heard the same story from U.S. graduates of 2 year degree and certificate programs. To perfectly honest (as usual), that's why I began recording the videos here in January, 2017, why I have a Facebook page called Paralegal Coffee Talk, & why I have a website by the same name. All of it is complimentary information. Then, I developed my class to provide the practical side of paralegalism to fill the gap so many people were missing. Thanks for writing me - you're not alone in this journey. - Leslie :)

      Hi Taryn...Experience in every facet of the law firm would be very helpful, so learn all you can and then trade up. Track every single thing you learn and update your resume constantly. Sometimes we forget unless we write it down. If you can stay in the law firm for a year or so, that will look good to future employers, too. I'm glad this video helped! Sassarific - Paralegals definitely handle the calls from the clients. As far as salary, can't quote numbers - it varies widely between every workplace. The real question, of course, is do you understand what a Paralegal's duties are in specific areas of law? If not, you need to do some heavy duty research. Most Paralegal newbies have to make a sacrifice in salary in the beginning & slowly work that number up. - Leslie :)

    Hi Leslie, I'm really looking into becoming a paralegal. I was going to go to my local community college and see about thier paralegal certificate program they have, but then I hear you say that you don't need one? I looked at different job sites and alot of the paralegal postings ask for previous experience in leagl work or a certificate. How would I find a firm that would be willing to train me if I had no experience in leagl work or a certificate. I do have experience in an office job and customer service.

    • @ParalegalCareerMastermind
      @ParalegalCareerMastermind  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Vivi...The misconception about this career is that having a 2 yr. degree in paralegal studies or a certificate does not necessarily allow you to get your foot in the door. You need to understand Microsoft Word very well, know how to file, etc. - all office skills and people skills. I am teaching a class at the end of May regarding what attorneys really look for in an entry level job candidate, how to bring attention to your cover letter and resume, what attys want in a writing sample, etc. Stay tuned. P.S. There's very rarely any training offered by the law firm.
