I use these as well Dreading the clean up is very relatable 😅 i do stop motion and ill have a bunch of random pieces surounding the set and just all over my table
Same here. However, it gets worse for me, as I have a massive, gigantic mound of Bionicle MoC's in a few bins that I'd like to find a better system for. Unfortunately, all sorting guides are for parts only, not finished builds.
Thats a great video with some ideas ive never thought of! Another thing I use are PAB cups. If I have a load of the same pieces I dump them all in a PAB cup.
Pro Tip! This is an Adam Savage tip that changed my life. When you have the garage workshop style drawers for small pieces, take one out and glue it to the front of the drawer as a sample piece. Then you know immediately at a glance what is in that drawer.
@@Goldfyre Yes! On Tested he ends up doing a lot of Q&A about general workshop organization and workflow for crafters, and I think there’s definitely some overlap for Lego enthusiasts.
As someone who tends to build very large MOCs, I 100% agree that cleaning and sorting while building is definitely a good tip. Now if only I can get the message across to my 8-year old 😂 I also reuse plastic containers from various places to store parts!
I already have my part organized, but this inspired me to organize them more I am definitely taking the advice of making my most used bricks more accessible for myself
I use coffee cans for my earth colored 1x2 plates, and one for my 1x2 earth bricks, Rubbermaid for filler brick, and I got Tupperwares for water, and stone details, organizers for rockwork and grass slopes, and ziplock bags for bulk color, box for minifigures, furniture and accessories . I use cooking sheets and backing pans to spread the legos so I can easily dump it back in the bags
I have a small plastic box with smaller compartments where I can put the pieces I've used if I don't feel like sorting them right after a completed building session, an intermediary station, sort of. I do the sorting later, while listening to a podcast or something, and I find that this helps my small space from feeling cluttered without the annoyance of having to clean up right away. And it also prevents pieces that I am procrastinating to sort from collecting dust, haha.
I think a great way to take this tips series, organization or not, would be kind of a beginners guide. Really helpful tips like useful pieces for mocs of all types, how best to use PAB/BL, and other basics for beginner moc builders.
I've got a lot of ideas floating around in my head for one but am waiting for the right time. I don't want to force one and have it not turn out right.
i once used recyclable plastic tubs, like that ones that barbecue meat comes in like Lloyds. bear in mind they are microwaveable, so buy a large capacity label maker and print out the type of Lego, that's in the tub, like studs or bricks, to prevent someone from microwaving what might end up being a super hard to replace color. trust me, it's happened.
Its simple really. Most parts you first sort by color. Then you sort colors by plate or brick (parts mostly taller than 3 plates). Then you sort the bricks out between slopes and normal bricks, and the plates between tiles and normal plates. There are exceptions, like brackets you sort out from other types first, then you sort brackets by color and different bracket type. That's it mostly. I clip most of my parts together to keep the space they occupy very small, and its easy then to see how much you've got. Either that or i put each part in a small plastic bag, and the bag in the container/container section. If you buy on bricklink you should have thousands of tiny plastic bags by now.
i just have a bookcase sideways and big containers from amazon inside it and put castle bricks organised in a big box. these boxes are sorted by colour. the only one i have organised is plant parts by piece types. i plan to make it more like tiagos but am broke so only get money on birthday or christmas.
Thanks again for sharing some great ideas! I use a similar setup but haven’t figured out the best way to subdivide the Sterlite bins. What are you using?
Off topic to the video but, With LEGO doing that D&D CMF and having realistic flesh tones for that, do you anticipate switching your character flesh tones to the realistic ones? I kinda wish LEGO kept the yellow personally to help fit other medieval sets.
I was a little surprised when you said the Sterilite drawers were not the most economical and then proposed the Alex drawers??? IMO, Alex drawers are great, but super expensive. Overall great video as always.
Yeah I wasn't very clear with what I meant. I was mostly referring to the plastic dividers inside. Those get really expensive as you scale up. Cardboard dividers are the way to go imo
@@Goldfyre that's a fair point. I actually recently noticed that the Ikea containers that most people use in the Alex drawers were on sale. I stocked up on them for 30 to 50 cents each. I think they might regularly be a dollar each which is decent but not great. I use the Sterilite medium drawers for storage (used to be pretty cheap in a 4 pack at Walmart) and the NOJIG containers aren't a super exact fit, but they are serviceable for the price. I have like 36 Sterilite units that house most of my parts. Subdividing them has been an ongoing challenge, but I am decently happy with where I am at now.
After you have shown your boxes for the first Time i bougth some of them and now my sorting works much better.
I'm glad to hear it
Totally relatable with sorting by color 😅 Awesome tips thank you
This is such a good video! Also how good are flexi spot! So good to see you getting sponsored!! Keep killing it mate
Thanks man! I really appreciate that :)

Ooh man I can't imagine how much time goes into that. You animators are the real heroes of the Lego scene
So relatable😂
@@Goldfyreme too I have so much random parts around my setting 😂
Perfect timing!😂 I'm using the nightmare method! Where it's perfectly organized until I need to find something

Funny how this organization evolves. This is pretty much exactly how I have mine done.
Yeah it's a big learning process tbh
Tackle box it’s good for on the go and has many sections it my main box that I use and it even has room for Mocs or moc sections depending on how big

Yes! I keep a lot of miscellaneous 1x1s in PAB cups
Some amazing tips and info from a fantastic builder!
You're too kind!

i realy wanted a video like this
I hope it was helpful :)
I watched you for a half year or something and there you have 1 k Abos or something congratulations to the 18 k 😊
Thanks for sticking around :)
to be precise on the ikea Alex: Drawer unit on castors without the wheel. It would be good to know what to use in the drawers.
Great idea for a video, good stuff.
Thanks! 😁
Your builds are absolutely INCREDIBLE 🥳
Sweet tips! On an unrelated note: when are you gonna do another lore video? Those are some of my favorites. :)

Screw/nail organizers that you can find at home depot or lowes work great for minifigs.

I have trouble staying organized 😅
Thanks for the Tips.
I'll try some of them
moving to the Ikea alex system soon but working to sort majority of bulk by part type first.
When is the next “building a black falcon castle” video?
I have it planned for the end of the month.
Nice vid! This one helped me a lot 😊
Awesome!
I might switch to some smaller drawers, mine are big with small plastic bags
Congrats on getting a sponsor 😮
Dog is insane seeing you with a sponsor, get that bag brother 🙏🏻

Can you come and sort mine? Got 35+ years worth, mainly in mixed bags.
😂
I'm organized by set rn so it's kinda anoying to build mocs lol. Does help that most mocs I build are small (8*16)
Yeah having a smaller collection can actually be kind of a good thing when it comes to sorting
Lazy table real man who use a crank to change table height
One of these days I will sort THE TUB . . .
I too have a couple tubs in need of sorting
I used to put all the pieces in old WHEY protein containers
Ooo smart lol
He revealed his face in the video??😮😮😮
1:35 that is Lego designer Tiago Catarino not Goldfyre
Lmao good one
Where to buy a lot of parts?
Bricklink or getting big bulk lots locally through yard sales & facebook marketplace
