    "Deus Ex Mankind Divided is so much better than I expected" i played it last year and i too was shocked how good it is. square enix really tried their best to sabotage this franchise. from cutting the game in half to having pointless side "live service" mode, to paying for upgrades points.

      The behind the scenes politics are actually so frustrating.
      Edios-Montreal (huge fans of the Deus Ex franchise) originally intended to work on a sequel or at least finish the story they had been forced to cut short. But in 2018, SE started a partnership with Marvel and forced E-M to collaborate on The Avengers project - a game which was pure ass on release. So SE realise they have messed up, forcing a company good at immersive sims to make live service bs, BUT they still have to make use of their Marvel partnership. So they get E-M to make the Guardians of the Galaxy title, still not what they wanted to do but a genuinely decent game all things considered.
      Things looked up in 2022 when Embracer took control of the company and commissioned a new Deus Ex title (finally, yay!). Then the title was cancelled and the studio was decimated with 97 lay-offs. Embracer will likely just sit on the rights and with a fresh cancellation there won't be a new game any time soon. Even more disappointing, one of the most underrated and genuinely talented video game companies in the past few years has been completely trampled by corporate greed.
      No one asked for this lore dump but as a big fan this has been one punch after another to follow.

    This game has unparalleled verticality. Such an intricate experience where the hub design is just crammed full of nooks and crannies, loot, and diagetic and immersive storytelling. The amount of freeform pathing and solution-engineering that exists is insane. Tbh one of the most underrated games possibly ever. Let down by a truncated and mediocre last third, the evolution of Prague as the plot progresses is unbelievable and overall is an incredible experience. The Jensen duology is a package everybody should play, particularly the side quests which are probably the strongest feature of the titles and some of the best in gaming, period.

      Square-Enix tacked on microtransactions so the internet hate mob decided to pile on even though the game itself is everything they're always whining about what they want from video games. Terrible messaging with the AUG LIVES MATTER thing. Came out long after any momentum from Human Revolution had already run out.
      The story introduced some major threads early in the game like Janus and Adam's amnesia which were saved for the sequel we're now never going to get, so people were not satisfied with the story. Some people say it's "half done," but it's really not. There's some obvious cut content like the bomber subplot, but the main story has a complete arc.

    I played MD soon after completing Cyberpunk 2077 and I was shocked at how much better of a cyberpunk experience it was. Everything from the much more satisfying, impactful augments, both gameplay and story-wise, to a much darker, more realistic setting and it obviously being a superior immersive sim game - perhaps the pinnacle of the genre, coming from its original creators - which Cyberpunk made a valiant effort to imitate, but didn't quite get there (just like it failed to be a GTA clone at the same time).

    • @ThePreciseClimber
      @ThePreciseClimber ปีที่แล้ว +8

      CP2077 legit should've copied the Deus Ex hub world formula. With their bigger budget and longer dev time, I think they could've done at least 3 Prague-sized hubs (and maybe a fourth one for the story DLC).
      I recall there was another cyberpunk game back in 2013 called Remember Me which had the opposite problem of CP2077 - it was too linear. That one also would've been interesting to see utilising Deus Ex hub worlds (poor district, rich district, extra smaller locations for story missions).

      Cyberpunk isn't an immersive sim nor was it even trying to be.

      @@ThePreciseClimberNight City would lose much of its charm and atmosphere if it was broken up into small hub worlds.
      Night City's sense of scale and complextiy served a symbolic meaning which was that you are simply one of the many millions living here, it makes you feel insignficant whilst the corporations are literally above you, in their ivory towers almost reaching the heavens.

    • @ThePreciseClimber
      @ThePreciseClimber ปีที่แล้ว +11

      @@cynicalmemester1694 That's like saying McDonalds isn't trying to be Gordon Ramsay's gourmet burger. Sure, it's technically correct. But one is still clearly superior to the other. Small, ultra-detailed hubs will always beat bloated open worlds.
      And it would've had MORE "charm and atmosphere" if they were allowed to crank up that level of detail on a smaller scale.
      Open world in CP2077 really doesn't add much. Just being able to drive from point A to point B in a car. But none of the locations were able to achieve their full potential. Level design is oh so very simplistic compared to Mankind Divided.

    • @cynicalmemester1694
      @cynicalmemester1694 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ThePreciseClimber Not really. Night City's biggest charm is that it feels like a large living sprawling city, that feeling simply would not be replicated well in a small hub world. The sense of rush, scale and verticality you get while driving and walking around the city is something that can't be replicated in a hub world. You feel like you're apart of something much bigger than you are.
      Prague is pretty but I never really felt like I was in an actual city while playing in it, but just a comically small part of some town in Czechoslovakia. It never hooked me in quite like Night City did.

    It's a great game, the only maddening thing is that it was meant to be the first of a trilogy. So it leaves you feeling blueballed, only getting to play the 1st act before things really start getting spicy. Apparently Eidos Montreal is working on a new Deus Ex game that's in "very early development" as of 2022. I highly doubt it'll be a continuation of Jensen's story though.
    In terms of story/themes I don't think either HR or MD come close to the greatness of the 1st game, but what they do have is fantastic and intricate level design. Prague was a great hub world and it was cool we got to experience it in different seasons as well as in a state of total police lockdown. I'd love to see more immersive sim style games backed by big budgets, but alas I don't think that'll ever happen. It's pretty dry out there, so I hope Eidos succeeds.

    This game was unfairly maligned by the games media, which had much more pull at that time. They were offended by the apartheid imagery, even though it was literally the most perfect encapsulation of the story being told. They didnt even bother giving it a fair chance.

Though the side quest is not related to main story line but its about the augs and humans living in there. also you can complete the entire game without killing anyone (expect some people) just by doing stealth if you have invested you praxis kits in those augmentations

    I remember being baffled by the reviews when it came out. Reviewers ultimately said : "Better everything except the story!", which is an opinion, not an objective point. When a game feels fantastic to play, like MGSV, I don't get why it would deserve a lower rating than its predecessor since we're talking about a game, not a movie. Some game critics write like they're movie critics and it pushed back sales for Mankind Divided since so many gamers go with the Metacritic rating first. The level design is better than Human Revolution and the hacking isn't as needlessly prevalent in this one. Remember the Picus News room? You do it for XP, but it takes forever and ends up being very boring and grindy.
    I beat it a good 6 times and am not done with it, since the atmosphere and art direction are so riveting. Also, when you know the upgrades and the level layouts well, the gameplay is even better. I beat it again this Summer and saved the 2 large DLC portions for my 2 weeks break in October. After this, I might just restart again and spend a few days marinating in its world. There are few games as immersive as this one. It's very engaging. The story about a law that will ulitmately change everything for augmented people feels even more important than Adam's fate and the Illumitati's plight.
    Another thing that I always loved about the story is how trust is portrayed between Jensen and Miller. Just like with David Sarif, they go through periods of suspicion but end up trusting each other with their lives by the end of the game. A bummer would have been : "My boss is using me and he was the bad guy all along!". It's such a cliché now and it was avoided by the excellent team of creators at Eidos Montreal.
    The real bummer though are the lackluster sales. It's getting a lot more respect over the years and I noticed that quite a bit of gamers finally played it regardless of the reviews and found out how much of a fantastic game it is. To me, it's a powerful work of art that's greater than the sum of its parts. Blade Runner 2049 is my favorite sci-fi movie. Deus Ex : Manking Divided is one of my top sci-fi games along Dead Space and the last Ratchet & Clank, obviously for very different reasons!
