My immediate goal is to prototype a card-holding deck for a French-language vocabulary game. I’ve completed a first prototype and have tweaked it quite a bit, and will print it again soon. Great video for us absolute beginners.
I'm currently considering getting into 3D printing to make tough, abrasive & impact-resistant armor (chest, shoulders, elbows, knees, etc) which would be an additional, external layer of protection to D3O motorcycle impact armor.
I'm not yet certain if I'd be able to print the pieces directly, or create some kind of 3D-printed mould for injection molding -- which would perhaps be a stronger solution.
    Lots to learn!

Hi! I'm glad you like the video! You don't need to know anything about CAD for 3d printing. CAD is used to create models from scratch, but you can just download models online to print. If you do want to create models from scratch, then yes you should learn. I would recommend Google Sketchup, Tinkercad, or Fusion 360 for beginners. Also, its awesome that you rescue animals! Finally, what printers are you looking at? I have a few in mind that might work for you. Thanks!

So let me get this straight. First you need a software to actualy design
your piece, and then you need a second software to "slice" it and send it to the
printer. Did I get this right?
It's the second software that actually communicates with the printer, not the first.

Yes, that is very true. But with the introduction of new CAD program like SelfCAD, you can model, sculpt and even print all under one program as there is an in built Slicer in the software. You can check this software here: www.selfcad.com

I just got my 3D printer today (14 Aug) and printed my first object; a gear. Something simple just to watch it go! I tried to print A skull pencil holder, but the plastic kept coming loose from the bed. It is a painter's tape type bed and I used a glue stick coating (light) that was recommended. I DIDN"T use any glue on the gear and liked to never got it loose, but I think that is preferable to NOT sticking at all! This was a good first video for a noob (like me) to watch. You started with the very basics and I am sure you will build upon that.
