I used to run Jackson Mississippi to Houston three times a week when I was a truck driver for Yellow Freight. So that means I had to cross this bridge six times a week. It's so high you can see well over the top of the Horseshoe Lake Charles Casino that sits next to it on the eastbound side to the point where you're looking down at it, and that building is at least 10 stories tall. Nevertheless, I got used to it and just enjoyed the view.
@cwc8979 Don't cross it. Use the Calcasieu High Bridge on the I-210 bypass instead. That bridge was repaired in 2019. It's not as steep or in need of repair as the I-10 bridge, and the view across the Calcasieu River, Indian Bay, and Prien Lake is quite lovely.
I haven’t been on that bridge in about 11 years. I love that bridge as it gets me on into Texas and just a few hours later, you can start seeing the mountain ranges in the distant. Something we don’t have here in Louisiana. It has got to be steeper than 4 degrees, looks more like 10 degrees from a distant.
Since 1984, I’ve crossed this bridge countless times traveling between Tx & MS up to 6 times /year. I must admit I always feel a relieved after a successful crossing. Was supposed to do it last week, but Google Maps & Waze showed traffic backed up midday last Thurs. So thankful for the 210 bridge. But, now this video will probably come to mind on my next crossing
To engineers out there, stop building truss bridges. There’s nothing good about them. Why would anyone construct something for public transportation that is subject to failure? The bridge in Maryland that the boat destroyed was this type. Folded like an accordion within seconds.
I have driven over this bridge hundreds of times. And i still look at as sketchy. Low guardrails and damaged guardrails. You can tell this bridge gets very little maintenance.
I found myself driving over this bridge on a road trip unknowingly in the biggest storm I’ve ever experienced. While driving a U haul pulling a car trailer. I have never been more afraid in my life.
I tried downshifting in an 18 wheeler halfway up bridge and couldn't get it in gear..me and 4 other students were screaming 😂😂until the instructor reached over and put it in gear after telling me to step on accelerator
I drove over this bridge After smoking some nice grass 💨 on my way to the casino. When u are away from it you can literally see under the bridge and this causes my anxiety to build up. Its scary as hell but for some dam reasonwhen i literally start to climb it im really okkk !!!! The pot doesnt help with the fear yall 😱
Holy shit balls, this bridge is real😳😳😳😳i have had dreams about this bridge, but I have never been there, and the crazy part was finding this channel….OMG🤔🤔🤔
Technically, that bridge wasn't dangerous and was built in a way that commuters had no concerns driving over it. However, any bridge that has a boat that size collide into it is going to fail/collapse. The problem wasn't with the bridge itself but rather not having better safe guards in place for the boats traveling under it(such as having tugboats steering them thru).
Let's see it from the side because of course it looks steep looking from the end of it. I drove across that bridge about 20:years ago but don't remember what it was like. Driving up and down hills in Atlanta I really didn't think much about it when I crossed it.
@@laryanryan9170 but I’ve been over this bridge, and on a nine percent grade in Pennsylvania on a truck, and it’s all I want. I was over this bridge twice this week, and it’s a blast.
That one gets me now. No clue what happened to me. Getting old I guess. The one going into Mobile from the NE from ATL over the Tennesaw River almost killed me. Blew my mind rounding the corner out of those pine trees looking at that bridge. I have PTSD now😂.
Sadly This Gets Overlooked And Forgot About And How Could You Not See This Bridge Is Not About To Collapse At Any Given Moment Old As It Is But The Governor Is Waiting To Be Reelected November 5 Hopefully He Sees This Because I’ll Remember At The Polls
Yeah I remember when I first went over it as a young boy, and till this day that has been the highest ever bridge I've ever crossed between Texas and Louisiana border lines
Have you been on it? I lived in Lake Charles for 6 years and everything said about this bridge is true in the daylight with 100% visibility. It's even more horrifying in fog, at night, high winds, rain slick road, or any combination that could come to your imagination. Not to mention there is no way to see traffic until at the top so if something happened just over the crest you could avoid hitting if you were paying attention but be in danger of being rear-ended by the vehicles behind you that can't see anything until they crest the top.
It was fun riding over the bridge as a kid, it was fine driving over it as a teen. I guess i got spoiled by the old sunshine skyway bridge in the 90s- Early 2000s.
The only thing i hate about driving over this bridge is being stuck behind the awestruck people who slow down to 40 mph while trying to see everything that they can from the top, traffic be damned.
The Calcasieu River Bridge is listed by the National Bridge Inventory (NBI) as Structurally Deficient with a rating of 3 (out of 9) and a Sufficiency Rating of 9.9 out of 100. As of March 2017 the sufficiency rating has dropped to 6.6 out of 100. Don't be surprised if it ends up in the news for the wrong reasons one day. There are plans just recently adopted to replace it using money from tolls. It'll take several years at best.
This bridge deteriorated thanks to a serious lack of preventative maintenance. If this bridge deteriorates even further, I wonder if weight limits will be posted on it. If that happens Louisiana could get penalized for allowing a major bridge on an interstate route to deteriorate to a point of being unsafe for heavier vehicles.
I wonder Who ever designed it did he know if people were gana make it up the bridge in rain?? And how people were gana fear for their lives going up it in a rain storm 🤨
They got one like that in Houston Texas to the La Porte of Houston driving truck up that one one time busy time of the day a car brake checks me course I was loaded the one in Houston Texas was a lot higher than that one and it also was eight Lanes
Well Jeff... You got me to thinking so I just had to go look it up and I found a snowstorm for you: "On January 11th, 1973 Lake Charles, Louisiana recorded a one-day record snowfall of 4 inches."

That bridge needs to be redesigned with all the new technology that's available, I'm sure a new bridge will have a high price tag it will be a lot more safer than the one that's standing.
My sister and I went across this bridge back during the pandemic she lost her husband to Covid and he was from Louisiana and she took him back home to bury him in his family plot.

A 5 degree slant on I 40 in East Tennessee isn't bad at all. This bridge looks steeper, probably 10/12 degrees

Hated working accidents on this bridge. Cars didn’t care about the emergency lights. Just flying by inches from us.
That's horrible
I drive a big rig and that bridge freaks me out every time I
To engineers out there, stop building truss bridges. There’s nothing good about them. Why would anyone construct something for public transportation that is subject to failure? The bridge in Maryland that the boat destroyed was this type. Folded like an accordion within seconds.
Cheap construction, easy to engineer & quickly to build.
With the engineering of today, the replacement bridge would be phenomenal
There's nothing wrong with truss bridges. Anything will collapse if you knock the foundation from under it. -Engineer, P.E.
I just moved to Lake Charles and absolutely hate this bridge. There is no way to avoid it if you're trying to get to certain places..
The I-210 bridge will cross over.
I have driven over this bridge hundreds of times. And i still look at as sketchy. Low guardrails and damaged guardrails. You can tell this bridge gets very little maintenance.
Just like every other road and bridge in Louisiana. That state has a horrible reputation when it comes to preventative maintenance.
I found myself driving over this bridge on a road trip unknowingly in the biggest storm I’ve ever experienced. While driving a U haul pulling a car trailer. I have never been more afraid in my life.
The only thing scary about the bridge is it’s reputation of scoring poorly on inspections
😂😂 idk the creepy music made it kind of scary lol
That's enough to scare anyone 😅
Thats what I say too!! But to each its own....
I cried on this bridge. 😂😂😂😂
I’ve driven on this bridge numerous times between going from Birmingham, Alabama to San Antonio, Texas and the view on top is immaculate
But why was it built with such a steep angle in the first place? What was the reasoning behind it?
Most likely cost reduction
Yesss finally someone is talking about it

Actually there were plans to replace it in the mid 80's. Now it will cost probably
7 -10×s more.
I have passed over this bridge
It will scare you if you're not paying attention
I hate this bridge and hold my breath every time I have crossed it.

The railings are ornamental flintlock pistols.

It’s very steep. I regularly cross it in a big rig, and yes, it’s steep. I can guarantee there are no hills this steep in Atlanta.
