    Your much more thorough than I am. These are great tips. I never thought to clean out the cooling fins.

    I bought the same Toro model, but older, used for $30. I always clean the spark plug with some steel wool, and haven't changed the original plug for over 10 years. The primer bulb cracked off about 8 years ago..to prime it, I just get down and blow into the carburetor inlet. I had to replace the solenoid a few years ago...One of these days I should put some money into it, but probably won't.

    New plugs are not necessarily gapped correctly. Check the gap before installing.

    Make sure you leave all the dirt on the back side of the wheel (helps in the lubrication). ;P

      FYI: better to get a new blade so you don't have to worry about the balance issue with the crankshaft...

    • @MattJonesYT
      @MattJonesYT 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      gob loit You can test it's balanced holding the blade by a nail in the hole and seeing that it balances perfectly horizontal. Grind more off whichever side is heavier.

    That's not the proper usage of dielectric grease. It needs to be put on the inside of the spark plug's rubber boots where the boot meets the plug's body so to prevent the conduction of any stray sparks and to keep the boot from getting stuck to the spark plug.

    • @MattJonesYT
      @MattJonesYT 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Not true. Dielectric grease is made to be placed directly on the metal, it spreads out when the contacts are connects. There's a popular youtube video that spreads this myth that it only goes on the boots but that is wrong.

    • @Johnrobert6
      @Johnrobert6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MattJonesYT dielectric grease is an insulator not a conductor, it should not be placed between electrical connections if you want good conductivity

    there is usually a plug on the bottom of the lawn mower to help drain the oil out but thats a little harder to do and all the mowers that i have owned have had this

  • @fight4freedom453
    @fight4freedom453 ปีที่แล้ว

    This sounds easier than I thought, though how do you change the oil?
    …change the (carburetor)? (silver thing with holes in it, ours looks quite old.)
    …change the pull rope for the starter ? Ours looks quite worn. Can the new one be shortened a bit, and still start? It’s so long for me.
    … change the red push button starter? It’s so worn too.
    .., drain any gas remaining in the tank, before I screw anything up?
