    In the description I say it's SBD audio which means soundboard audio. So the audio comes directly off the soundboard that's why you hear little crowd noise.

      I realize this comment is 14 years old but I can only hope that the music they’ve made in that time has grown on you because Good News is absolutely the best album they ever made and if you can’t recognize that you are biased.

    • @bkisme
      @bkisme ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jonathangentry1273
      I better be biased; I am not a source of objective truth.
      In my completely biased opinion, Good News is a fine album with a handful of real bangers.
      ...But it isn't their best work. All three full-length studio albums released prior to Good News are better to both my ears, and the ears of tons of other pretentious shitheels like myself on the Internet.
      Look no further than Pitchfork retconning their review of The Lonesome Crowded West from an 8.9 in 1998 to a 10.0 in 2014 to see exactly what I mean. I am not alone in my sentiment. Modest Mouse produced their best work in the 90s. There is nothing wrong with that, and I will be forever grateful for the band continuing to release new work. I don't think myself as an adolescent in 2004 would have heard of them if it wasn't for the runaway success of Float On on the radio... But I didn't stick around to listen to Float On.
      I did see Modest Mouse in concert a few years ago and I was thoroughly impressed both by their musicianship, and in their balanced incorporation of old and new material.
      RIP Jeremiah Green.

      @@bkisme Boy howdy, I had been drinking whiskey again when I typed that up, no more liquor for me. My apologies.
      Anyway, as sober me recognizes we are all biased in some way, my bias is skewed towards Good News being their best work, for me. It's a perfect example of a band that continued to push the limits of their creativity despite having already made their major label debut, and while Float On is probably the closest thing they made at the time to anything approaching a more formulaic pop structure in the interest of writing songs for the radio, and glad that they did as it exposed Modest Mouse to me as a young kid. While I feel like the songwriting and Isaac's lyrics were as good as they'd ever been with tracks like Blame it on the Tetons, Good Times Are Killing Me, Bukowski, and Ocean Breathes Salty being some of my favorites. The World at Large alone is one of my favorite songs of all time as it is timeless and relatable, and I remember listening to it on my mp3 player while moving out of my childhood home as a 12-year-old, all teary-eyed. there was this new element of crisp high-fidelity production quality that had been introduced and had given them a larger-than-life sound. Take the Lonesome Crowded West, which, 10 years ago I would have said was their best album hands down as I preferred the under-produced and non-conventional structures. I also appreciate any album that flows cohesively and really deserves to be listened to all the way through. I still think it is a perfect album. But I have since developed an appreciation for well-done production quality, IF the songwriting is worthy of it, and in their case, still was. I think most would agree there was a clear decline after that, though. But I really think Modest Mouse's pinnacle of success came at a time when they were still writing incredible music, and I have fond childhood memories of hearing them for the first time because of this album, whereas it did get me into Lonesome Crowded West, which I also love and cherish to this day, I think the themes, while still relevant today, were very region/time period specific, and made for a certain audience, whereas Good News feels universal, accessible and timeless to me. But I am way more biased than I even accused you of being, my apologies for that again.
      I also got to see them live a few times in the last few years. Twice before Jeremiah Green had passed. I sat in line at the Brooklyn Steel with my girlfriend at the time and she pointed him out to me, knowing he was one of my favorite drummers, just talking to a roadie carrying around a pair of drumsticks. I always regret not going up to him just to let him know how much I admire him and Modest Mouse. (Probably the biggest sin Good News commits is that it's the only mm album that does not feature his playing)

      @@bkisme I love that you all discussed this 11 years after the original comment. I also love that you got to see MM in the recent years and still enjoyed their newer music. I will always think The Lonesome Crowded West is their best album. It's just absolutely perfect. Weirdly enough I also thoroughly enjoyed Strangers To Ourselves and think it's my second favorite album of theirs. I know that isn't at the top of most peoples lists but it just hits me right for some reason.
      Modest Mouse is such a special band. I really wish I knew someone personally who shares the same appreciation I have for them but most of my friends (and sadly my wife) just don't enjoy them.
