- What it takes to Bath a Rough Collie. We do this once a week to keep our Rough Collie looking her best.
Hope this is helpful to potential Rough Collie owners. If you keep up with the grooming; owning a Rough Collie will be much easier.

Something I learned the other day when grooming my Sable Headed White Rough Collie made her look better then ever. Take one hand and pull the fur back (gently) and brush out the undercoat. I had been just brushing straight going with the flow of the fur. It took over 6 hours..but I noticed she looked fluffier, felt softer and looked beautiful. Going to do the same with the rest! Beautiful collie btw!
The grooming never seems to end, like to do it in 30 minuet blocks of time
I do the same and this works pretty well!

I have a rough collie cross who has so much patients with me. I can literally open his mouth play touch his teeth or tongue. I think its cause i was always doing that shit to him since he was a puppy lol. Played with his feet, teeth, lightly pull his tail all when he was was a puppa

Have fun! Get some rest now. Puppies are soooo much work. A puppy will be bonded to you forever. Rough Collies are really only bonded to the first family they are introduced to. CONGRATULATIONS!

For my personal opinion - there ist nothing else such sweet as a rough collie ... oh yes..they are such unique.... but soooo confident. They think.. yeah... make your thing... i make my own.. Most of the Rough Collies are souvereign personalities, what is great. But PLEASE don´t handle these dogs with strong education and loud words... they are so senitive beeings full of love. Make it soft for the collie... it is such a wonderful dog - i never thought so... since we´ve got our rough collie "AMY" from Greece from an animal rescue organisation.... The best dog ever....a dog full of love..independent with own head, not always a super cuddler, because the main program of the collie ist to allert if enemies are coming... so they are definetly super bark dogs.... they show you the enemy... but they do not defend... for this you need a "kaukasian Owtscharka" - this kind of dog chews a wolf into two parts... if it is necessary... lol. Bye Bye - cool video... cu.

They really hate having head washes and dont want shampoo to go into eyes
Do you have any suggestions for bathing rough collies with a standard human bathtub/shower w/ detachable head? Does it work basically like this? I am very interested in getting a rough collie as my first dog but I can't afford to renovate my house lol!

This was filmed at our old apartment with a Dog Wash. Now we are back to the bath tub and it much more work. The Problem with Rough Collies is there is just so much fur. As it is a Double Coat it takes lots and lots of water to get is soaked down and clean.
As for a Sheltie or a Rough/Smooth collie I would concentrate more on the personality of the breed than grooming. I know the are both herding dogs but I fee they are so different.
We also have a hunting dog from greece, an we see those are 2 different worlds.... Look like 2 collies are """"fighting"""" for fun.. First time the hunting dog wanted to play with the collies... was such like... "What the hell is wrong with the dog ?`" But meanwhile they are the best female friends ever - but the start of the collie wasnt so easy and the hunting dog ist a little to "brutal" for her.... Please see vids with fighting Collies.... there is no violence in my sight of view.
Our Rough Collie puppy was such hard work. They Sheltie was like a dream. The are best friends not and the Rough Collie loves to cuddle every night in bed

Hiya, They hate grooming. Lots and lots of dog treats. Now they see the grooming supplies and are excited because they know good treats are on the way.
Thats true for mine too! I was so frustrated when mine was a pup because he wouldnt let me do much. We use lamb lung and its the only time he gets that treat. It used to be a treat every 20 seconds now he will let me groom for a few minutes for a treat and he stands still and everything. In fact he loves the attention and treats so much he will stand beside the treat jar and look at me until I start. I used to use a slicker brush but I realised it was hurting him so I switched to human brush and that really helped.
How often do you bathe her?
Every Week. Better to stay on top of grooming then let it get away. They spend a lot of time off leash in the forest , some of the smells they pick up and not so nice.
