- Everyone in the world is about building these massive cities of the future. These cities usually push green energy, new technologies, new jobs, new new new everything. All of that translates to billions of dollars worth of cost. And hopefully billions of dollars worth of longterm sustainable profit. Kenya is throwing its hat into the ring with a $15 billion price tag!
This city is part of Kenya’s plan to utterly revitilize the entire country for the next decade. It has been in the works for years as the country has tried to change itself both internally by looking through its politics, rights and economy, and externally by changing the way the rest of the world views the country. The future city has become the poster child of this entire movement. A beautiful dream indeed. Only one that may never see the light of day due to massive costs, setbacks, changing plans and much more.
What people truly love to see with these cities are cool scifi looking city designs. Most of the time they come out looking like something straight out of Blade Runner or Black Panther. Big neon buildings, futuristic cars, expensive apartments and everything short of cybernetic implants being sold at a drive thru. Kenya’s future city looks completely different. It is a city that looks to push education, sustainable workforces and a truly boundless future with limitless potential. What could be better than that?

It's not a failed project. It's vision 2030. They've already connected electricity, water, fiber optic cables and East Africa's biggest data centers within the City Development Agency.
The next phase will now be the construction of buildings. So, don't criticize it just yet.

The project is implemented in phases. The first phase of laying out the infrastructure foundation was completed recently and now we are in phase two. More than 70% of the land is already taken
I love how pessimistic and sarcastic he sounds, Konza city is developed using the PPP model, where you have three phases of the project, the first phase is the government’s role to lay foundation for basic and social services of the entire city which is aver 90% complete. The second was having the private sector lease the land for development which there has been a big uptake by private sector investors and construction is ongoing. The buildings you see are the administrative building, data center and sewerage treatment plants, there are more constructions going on and you shouldn’t be too quick to write the project as a failed project.

Africa’s states have more people than what the states in the US has and that being said, Africa has more vibrant cities already than the US has. That’s means achieving dreams of this nature won’t be a big deal to the rapid raise of the continent. The moment they fix their political systems around the continent, RIP to the rest of the world.

Believe it or not. It's actually more likely for a city like this to be built in a developing country that in the 1st world since they don't have an old infrastructure to build on top of or dig up. They can literally just start from scratch and build whatever they want.

I hope though that most of the projects will be financed with Kenyan's taxpayers funds and not a situation where the assets are owed outrightly by foreign companies and governments, particularly, those outside of Africa. Partner, with Africa's business people and make an "Africa's" owned projects! Nigeria is partnering with countries in Africa, such as Algeria, Morocco, Chad etc. Let us build Africa together.
