    10 Mbps average is quite good speed. It means you get 1.25 Megabyte per second. There are 2678400 seconds in a month (31 day) which means you can download max 3348000 Megabytes or 3.2 TB per month.

    On the smarty how do I top 1 up from argos I have sake box as you... does smarty keep my bank details... as o2 is £30 for 100gb for caravan.. I have same box but might get smarty long as u can top up via non credit card entering details as I do not want contract... so does smarty ask for your card details at start to activate the card or can I just top up £18 as like I sed if they want card details I'll just pay £30 with o2 ?

      Smarty will ask for a card and it will debit it each month. You can cancel at any part of the month. You’re on about payg I believe so you too up before you use it and if you go over you don’t get charged ?
      All I can suggest I suppose is drop it down a level and then when or if you need more data boost it up for the rest of the month. It’s the same as what others do just in a different way. Let me know how you’re getting on with it

      For me it's a no brainer. All I had to do was whack the SIM in to my £56 Huawei router and the hotspot was working in 10 seconds. I was getting 0.5-3mbps down with GiffGaff (£25 and throttled after 80GB used) and am now on 34mbps (truly unlimited with no such restrictions).

    • @Gorguruga
      @Gorguruga 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SobrietyandSolace Nice one thanks for the info. I was thinking of getting the Huawei as well with a Smarty unlimited sim. 34mbps is amazing speed, that's a lot faster than my landline broadband at the moment. Are you in London? I think the signal strength should be ok here.

    • @SobrietyandSolace
      @SobrietyandSolace 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Gorguruga You’re welcome happy to help someone else befit. I am in Wiltshire currently in a building with terrible signal. There’s about 19,000 in this town so not so much pressure on the towers but likely many less towers than London. I’m very happy with the little box as getting broadband installation and being tied into a contract is complicated and not realistic if you’re like me and have had to move around a lot/unstable financial and living circumstances. It is reassuring to know you can just pick it up and move it wherever, change your plan from month to month and just not pay it all for a minute th if you can’t manage or don’t need it. I was lucky to get onto the promotion they ran where it was double data on the £15 50GB plan so I currently get 100GB (basically unlimited as I never really use more than 80GB a month) as long as I keep on the same plan for the next 12 months to keep the promo applied. Not sure if it is still running but definitely check.

      @EssentialmacUk  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Couple of reasons. Some people have locked mobile phones so that can be a pain.
      Hot spotting a phone means I need to be around if others want to use it. Also it can drain the battery and cause things to heat up. I had wanted to go for one with Ethernet Ports but they were out of my price range. I’ll think of some more examples soon lol.

      I’ve used a hotspot for about five years costing me on average £20 a month (it has even gone down now to around £17 a month with three unlimited hotspot included with unlimited mobile broadband now)
      As a single person it’s brilliant, I have varied speeds that to be honest are not so consistent and fast as they were because it keeps changing since the advent of 4G and now 5G. But regardless remember this is a charge that is inclusive on my mobile bill and I have no landline to pay. It is occasionally frustrating as sometimes I get slow speeds, usually around tea time, but I can happily live with that, with the amount of money I save. Usually I can watch HD Videos on my smart tv and play online virtual reality games even with no problems.
      Can’t see why more people don’t utilise this, it’s a mystery to me.
      The battery doesn’t seem to degrade an awful lot also this is mobile broadband,

      It's unlimited up to 1tb of data.. If you hit that they will then investigate to see if you're not using it for a business. There are reports of people thrashing it and getting caught out. I've hit 100gb in a month a couple of times with no issues.

    Can I use this if I live in the EU?

    • @EssentialmacUk
      @EssentialmacUk  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sort of. You get to use 12gb of data over 30 days when in the EU and if you are in one of the Roam at home countries BUT you then have to use it back in the UK for approx 30 days I believe. They more or less follow the mobile provider Three's terms and conditions about it.

      You can buy a 4G Hotspot Modem but I wouldn't use it in the EU as you'll get your sim suspended by Smarty as I found out. If your using it in an EU country get a local sim; most of the foreign networks are actually cheaper.

      I’ll also add that this modem doesn’t work well when more than a couple of devices are hooked up and a low signal. I had it on a decent charger and it was draining quicker than it would charge.

    • @EssentialmacUk
      @EssentialmacUk  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      From Bristol myself originally. I've been in areas where EE hasn't has a signal but Three has. In the review I did say for me, and i mean for me it works fine. In work I get 1 bar of signal but if i literally walk outside I'm rocking full 4g.. not that it helps but all that matters if you find the right deal for you.

      Yes you can. You can connect to the dongle via wifi (forget how many users) and connect as normal. I've been keeping my eye out for a new dongle to review but they are few and far between.
