  • I recently got my paws on a Huawei E5783B-230 - Three UK 4G+ MiFi. This one was supplied from Three UK, although you can buy them from Amazon (UK - amzn.to/3kjQnKB / USA - amzn.to/3jhzqyY).
In this video you'll see me unbox it, set it up, go through some of the configuration menus, test it out and about and also check to see if Three UK supply it unlocked by using a GiffGaff / O2 SIM in it.
For such a tiny piece of kit, it's pretty damned good, and the user interface, should you want to dive into it, is super nerdy.

Excellent! Thanks. Have used these routers since like for ever. Feels like the first one I got was in 2005 or so. The ONLY problem I have ever had with them is that the battery swells and often ruins the box. And grows too big to use, so I have to buy a new one.

You need to connect the MiFi device to the laptop & connect it to the laptop via the small white cable.
Remember to press & hold the power button to start the mobile MiFi device while it’s connected to the laptop.
Just click everything to connect. Be patient as when your laptop restarts it’s a good sign.
You may have to login 3 or 4 separate times just to login properly & get connected to a laptop be it personal or company laptop

Ping times on video games?? im using normal wifi is good but it would bottleneck 24/7 50ms to 100ms to 200ms every couple of seconds even while using an ethernet cable and having a netgear nighthawk gaming router, the reason I am getting 4g is to prevent this so how is the ping on multiplayer games are you getting 60ms and is stable not jittering 24/7 consistently or is it doing the same as the one my Normal Wifi that I mentioned above. P.S. I don't mind if if I get 70 or 80 ms on video games, I just want the ping time to stay stable and not jitter like I do with Sky Wifi etc

Going by the replies I believe it would be best to purchase the MiFi device plus a SIM card for your mobile.
Why as your mobile phone sim by another company will eventually block you for using the MiFi device.
The MiFi device comes with a SIM card & its own mobile number. All are delivered by DPD couriers as stated on three website which is 2 days.
If you order a separate sim for your mobile that will come separately via Royal Mail.
      Everything arrived within 2 days.

    • @kiphakes

Hiya, please bear with my I'm quite untechy! I've bought this mifi device as a temp replacement for proper home broadband got a few months while we move house, on an unlimited data rolling monthly contract from three. I set it up on the laptops and it's working fine, however I can't get my smart TV to work. I've run a spear checker and it says it's connected and signal strength is excellent but there's no data, nothing will load. I'm wondering if I need to somehow put the "admin" password in like I did with the laptops? Do you think that's likely? If so any suggestions on how I get to the landing page on my smart TV? Do I already need to have a three SIM card on a phone or do I need to get one for a phone in order to have the mifi working? So basically would I need 2 three SIM cards one in my phone and one in the router? Because I’m in o2 on my phone and they don’t offer as good monthly plans for the mifi as three does. Is it ok if I’m with o2 on my phone and then with three for the mifi? Sorry if it’s a bit confusing tried to do some research but can’t find out anywhere, thought you would know?

I live in a rural area which you suggested you have the same problems as we do and 4G is the only way we have to connect to the internet. At present, I pay for an expensive EE 4g system using a Huawei router 4G. I use extenders around the house, so as my wife can access her computer and at the other end I am using it in my workshop. Can this mini 4G router be extended to allow access over a greater area? I will be using it when we get our campervan setup. The 3 network would be cheaper to access the internet, that is for sure.

Great video Kip! I'm in need of your advice if you get any time to read this comment I would love to hear your opinion...
For motorhome living of 1/2 people in the UK mostly around city areas, with medium/heavy use of the internet - would you recommend just going for a phone mobile plan with unlimited data to use the mobile hotspot for internet access or would you recommend a MiFi plan? I'm guessing monthly MiFi plans would be much more convenient but I'm not sure. I'm considering it for long-term use, so I'm looking for a hassle-free plan. Pros/cons?
Either way, please let me know what you think and what you advise, I would love to know.
    Thanks
