I drove The Loneliest Road in an suv a few years ago and my very first thought leaving Ely was "I need to ride this on 2 wheels". Last March I bought a new, bigger, bike with the intention of doing 50 end to end. I rode from my house on the Jersey Shore to Ocean City, MD and headed west. 8 days with no itinerary and LOTS of awesome sights!! If you gents ever get the time to do the whole route, I encourage you to do so!!
US50 from Winchester VA to Reno NV...what a trip that was for me...this video brought back wonderful memories. At the time my cvo had issues in Grand Junction and I called my dealership back home....they're like family...and my extended warranty paid for the reparis...The trip took us to Bend OR, Washington State along the river...back to Glacier and eventually back home in Maine. Thank you for your posts...I sold mine this year...family first. So, I'm lovin' catchin up with 2lanelife...keep up the good work...I wrote a book huh! LOL
Crazy! That sounds like an epic trip with some ups and downs like those trips tend to have. Thanks for sharing! We'll keep the good times rollin' for ya😎
Here in Colorado, my wife and I ride two-up year ‘round. In the c-c-c-cold temps, we both wear long underwear underneath our riding pants, Dewbu heated jackets (including arms) underneath our winter riding jackets (yes, it’s a snug fit), and Highway 21 heated gloves. Heated grips help, but the heated gear really does the most in keeping things comfortable. If it’s ultra-cold, we’ll throw rain gear over the top of everything, and it helps block that cold wind a lot. But like you guys said, part of it is mind-set as well. Looking forward to watching the next episode!
We love to see it! Thanks for tuning in, Joe! The long sleeve heated gear sounds like a good move, we'll have to test out a few options as we've had lots of recommendations from viewers over the year. Ride safe out there, see ya on the next episode!
Another great adventure guys! Such troopers riding in such cold weather, how did those heated gloves work for ya? Gaylin you sure are hard on those phones.. Ha! Ha! Thanks and looking forward to the next part.
It was another epic trip for sure! The cold weather got pretty gnarly, but at least we've got some stories now lol. It was hard to tell with the heated gloves as 14-16 degrees with wind chill is tough to stay warm regardless. We wouldn't say our hands were warm, but at least not completely frozen (except for Josh..). We think plugging them in to the bike vs running off battery would be the way to go. Gaylin just had to make another sacrifice to the road gods 😂
Another wonderful and comprehensive video. Always on my watch list. But riding at night, in the cold and with snow/ice-I'll continue to pray for your safety! Ride on and be well.
Glad you enjoyed it, R Cycle!! This trip was a blast. It was nice to get back to our roots and just wing it out on the road. Those temps had us hurting a bit, but all a part of the adventure. Ride safe!
Road US50 from Maryland until Cincinnati on my way home to Minnesota years ago. Plan to ride the western half yet one day. Thanks for the continuing inspiration. Skol!
Your rides are awesome. I love the history of each town you guys visit. Showing you food plates is just great. All the Koodos you guys give the small town eateries 8s super also. So hello from Medicine Hat Alberta Canada
Thanks for coming along for the ride, Isaac! Glad you're diggin' the adventures along the way. The small town food stops are one of our favorite aspects of traveling the back roads. Thanks for the support 🇺🇸🙌🇨🇦
The MRS and I rode from Utah to Carson city on 50 a few years ago. We liked it far more than using an interstate. Not much traffic and most everyone was ripping it up at around 80MPH so it was not too slow. We stayed at the Best Western in Eureka and it was clean and cheap with a free breakfast to boot! We will ride it again I'm sure. Love your video's, thanks for doing them.
Agreed! It was nice knowing there would be no turns coming up and you could just enjoy the scenery and smooth high speed roads along the journey. Thanks for all of the support! Glad you're enjoying the vids👍
good ole highway 50, it taint so lonely on either end, lol, but man it is a long time between vehicles and animals. It is a well maintained highway though so it is safe and nice to ride on.

Rode through that area last May (22). Washington state to Death Valley (113 degrees). North to LV, then NE to SE Utah, Idaho, and home. Two weeks on the road. Love riding in the desert with big roads and big speeds, tumbleweeds and cacti. Just wish I had good riding buddies like you have, people interested in going out for days. But guys like that in my age group (74) - can't find em.
Wow sounds like quite the adventure, that's awesome!! There is something to be said about ripping through open desert roads out in the middle of nowhere. It is nice riding with friends, but either way the adventure is always a good time. Ride safe out there, thanks for tuning in👍
Watching youor videos and listening to you constant banter back and forth makes waiting for Spring here in the frozen tundra of the Midwest so much easier to tolerate. Gets me even more excited for the coming of some great riding weather! Keep 'em coming, Guys!

I had this Hwy. 50 trip scheduled in 2019 on my 2016 Road King. From Southern Idaho I headed to Wells, Elko, Reno, Carson City then jump on the 50 and head to Ely. I stopped in at Gold Strike Harley Davidson, in Elko, NV to see a friend of mine. Rode out of there on a 2019 Road Glide Special. Spent the rest of the long weekend drinking and gambling. Never got to finish the ride. Won a $30,000.00 Harley Davidson shirt though. 🤣
That's right!!! We were hurting a bit on the final stretch in, but it made for some great stories and made the 30 degree temps the following day much more bearable! Thanks for watching, Jimmy 👍
You guys have such a good vibe. I think you guys have the correct attitude on life. I enjoy you videos, and I'm getting my bikes ready for this season.
You guys need to get Warm and safe heated base layer. It's the best. Stays close to your body and you just put your jacket and pants over. Best part is you are not riding around with bulky gear setup. Check it out.. you will love it.
You're giving me the confidence to set out riding from Boston to Daytona in 3 weeks. Hoping (fingers crossed) for better temperatures than you got, but cold is one thing as long as there's not snow or ice on the road. Love the videos again! Thanks
I follow their videos and I see that you changed their helmet, what model they are using and know their criticism of the helmet. Do you recommend it for long trips, I plan to travel from Mexico to Arizona. thanks.
Hello! We kept the same model of helmet, but in a new color. It is the Bell SRT Modular helmet and is our favorite helmet we have tried in our years of riding. Very comfortable, affordable, good quality, and nice to have the modular to be able to flip up the lid as gas stops and on hot days. We hope that helps! 2lanelife.com/collections/helmets/products/bell-srt-modular
That's the plan!! It was nice to get back to our roots and just film some great riding out on the open road! It was a nice change of pace for sure and we're glad you're diggin' the series so far!
Why it always Gaylin dropping his phone on the hwy? LOL (Shows how long I have been watching) I really love your road trips! Be safe, have fun and I hope to see the three of you someday down the road!
That's a question we've asked ourselves a few times 😂 lol thanks for the continued support, Georgina!! We had a blast out there. Hope to see you down the road!
I love watching your road trips, and this one I look especially forward to. Although I live in Norway, Europe I have been doing some serious motorbike riding in the U.S. I am happy to say. Back in 2012 me and my friends rode from Los Angeles up to San Fransisco and then parts of the Highway 50 before visiting the Harley-Davidson Museum in Milwaukee and ending the trip in Chicago. But we spent a night in Ely, NV like you but on the Jailhouse Motel & Casino.
Thank you for following along on the journeys, Karl! We're glad you're enjoying the videos. This was a great trip and getting to explore Highway 50 the following day was an incredible experience. It sounds like you had an awesome trip crossing the country in the US and getting to see some great stuff along the way. See you down the road!
Hey guys. Been on the loneliest road lots of times. It’s awesome but I will say it’s July and August when I go. Fifteen degrees is a bit to cool for me. I’m from Northern California so I head to Reno and catch the road in fernly East of Reno. It’s a fantastic ride. You might see 3 cars in a couple hundred miles. Shout out to your ladies. Enjoy!!
Good stuff! It was only 15 degrees on our way into Ely, but the next day on US50 itself, the lowest was 30 degrees which was much more tolerable. Definitely awesome being out there in the open!
Awesome ride you guys, I got my bike (01 FXST) the other day, can't wait to see you all back out in the Tri-State (Cali/Nev/Az) area again...I need to change my avatar now.
Love the old two laner running north of Vegas. Been thru there a few times, that’s riding at its best. Can’t wait to see you run from Ely (e-Lee) across that 50. Years ago a Bike magazine did a big story on that Loneliest Highway my dad shared with me, and it’s one stretch I’ve wanted to ride from one end to the other, on. Sorry about the camera phone getting body slammed off the highway. I carry mine inside zipped up in my jacket to avoid the weather and the asphalt; I’ll check my phone when I stop for gas. 🤣 By the way, there’s an Ely, Minnesota (e-Lee), and beautiful, so you could do an Ely to Ely run at some point!
That was a helluva time! We had a blast through there the following day, and seeing it covered in snow brought a whole new level of beauty. Third time's a charm for the phone body slam...lesson learned 😂 Thanks for watching, De Ba!!
@@2LaneLife 🤣😂🤣😂You guys are the best. Seriously you should take a big loop ride one day from mid-Minnesota up towards International Falls (google the old Die Hard car battery commercial where they left a car thru winter out on the frozen lake in International Falls?) and ride back around thru Ely, on over to Bemidji (I have a big fishing story around Bemidji) Land of 10,000 Lakes!
It looks like you guys ran up through ash springs/alamo. I recognize the road. Did you guys shoot over to Tonopah through rachel and then backtracked to get to Ely?
You would be correct, that was just a slip while editing as I was referencing the locations of phone videos taken along the way to mark location and must've referenced the wrong video. It was just south of Sunnyside by White River Valley👍
We rock the PackTalk Edge. They have some cheaper options, but for us the Edge is the way to go and has all of the features we need. We've got some info/links in the video description and all duo packs are on sale until the 21st if you and a friend/wife wanted to get a set. Hope that info helps!
Just installed a heated seat on my Ultra Limited, so that plus my heated grips and I think I'm ready for colder riding, not in 15° F temps like you boys (poor Josh, good thing he's young!), but I'll be out there now too! Nice drop guys, was loads o' fun! See ya down the road! 🤙
The heated stuff definitely comes i handy! Anything you can do to helpd deal with those freezing temps. Josh's right hand is still numb 2 weeks later, but he'll survive lol Thanks for watching!
Thanks JD! We're rocking the Bell SRT Modular helmets in Nardo Gray. We've tried tons of helmets in our years of riding and these are by far our favorites. Affordable, super comfortable, and once you go modular there's no going back! We'll link it below. Feel free to use the code TH-cam at checkout for a discount when the time comes 👍 2lanelife.com/collections/helmets/products/bell-srt-modular
The issue was he attached the sticky mount to a silicone case which doesn't bind correctly. Lance has used the iOmount for 90k+ miles without any issues as he attached the part of the mount that attaches to the case on a hard plastic case 👍 Lesson learned 😂
I really enjoy watching you guys get down the road. Curious I have a question real quick get right to it the boom mic in your helmet that you use to control voice control here helmet mounted camera. Where did you get that and who made it?
Thanks for coming along for the ride!! To mount the camera to the chin of the helmet, we use the Motoradds universal flex slim mount (linked below), then we plug in a Purple Panda lav mic into the gopro media mod and have the tip of the mic secured inside our helmets. We don't use the voice control, we just press the record button. Hope that helps! Chin mount - motoradds.com?ref=17 (Use code "2lanelife")
I have it all mounted. I wanted to control it ( voice control ) because many times I want to shoot a photo and then shoot vid and voice control allows that to happen. I just didn’t know if you guys did that since I see the mic . It must be for communication. I hear you talking from what looks like fpv helmet cam.
@@montanabackroads2lanetours438 Gotcha. Yea, I don't think the GoPro is capable of being controlled by voice using a lav mic. And yup, we have a mic for our comms, then a separate mic to record the vocal audio directly to the gopro video files which are then stitched together in editing
awesome I wondered if you had two different mics ....also I dji Osmo action cameras so maybe I got lucky...keep up the great riding maybe our paths will cross someday
Even though highway 50 is called the "Loneliest Road" in the contiguous United States, I'm sure you're well aware that Highway 6 from Ely to Tonapah is the real "Loneliest Road." Highway 50 has a couple small towns on the way to Fallon, but Highway 6 has nothing and is close to 170 miles. You might see a few ranch houses in the distance, but there is nothing but open land, valleys and peaks. I recommend La Fiesta Mexican restaurant in Ely. One of my top 3 Mexican restaurants.
We've spent some time on Highway 6 and there are definitely some long stretches throughout. We've come to appreciate those long open stretches to say the least. We'll have to check out La Fiesta next time around. Thanks for watching, Corey👍
We're rocking the TruBEAM LED Road Glide Headlamp by Custom Dynamics. A worthwhile upgrade for sure! 2lanelife.com/collections/lighting/products/trubeam%C2%AE-led-road-glide-headlamp

Haha this one was in CA on our way to Nevada. Sounds like it was pretty bad with actual flooding and mud for a few weeks but it was all fixed and clear by the time we came across it
We like the specials. We swap out most of the stock parts anyway and add lowers, so not really missing out on much but are saving weight. Detachable tour pack is nice too

Thanks for all of the support!! We're glad you're enjoying the videos and good times along the way 👍
You guys need to get Warm and safe heated base layer. It's the best. Stays close to your body and you just put your jacket and pants over. Best part is you are not riding around with bulky gear setup. Check it out.. you will love it.
Yup, that's on the list!
I live in Carson City off highway 50 ...so yeah it becomes pretty desolated after few miles out of the city
Right on! Kinda cool being out there in the open though, that's for sure!
See y'all are sporting new Bell helmets, cool
Yes sir! Had to switch things up with the Nardo Gray lids!
Solid
🙌
Awesome video guys! I've never been on a trip yet, but I think I'd have to go with all heated gear, just incase.
Thanks for tuning in!! Glad you enjoyed the video. Heated gear would definitely be the way to go during winter!
I'm guessing that was was Green Valley Grocery in Alamo. NV.
Editing keeps getting better! love to see it
Thanks Levi!! Glad you're enjoying the vids! Learning as we go 😎
3:39 Is that the factory headlight?
That's the Custom Dynamics TruBeam LED Road Glide headlght

Good stuff guys!! Josh you are killing it man 📸📸
Thanks Tango!! Stoked for today's drop, hope to see you there!👍
Very nice! 👍🤠
🙌
Doing Rt50 in July, can't wait!
Awesome!! Gonna be a hot one, but a great ride regardless. Have fun out there!
You're giving me the confidence to set out riding from Boston to Daytona in 3 weeks. Hoping (fingers crossed) for better temperatures than you got, but cold is one thing as long as there's not snow or ice on the road. Love the videos again! Thanks
Awesome!! We're happy to hear that. Sounds like you've got a great trip ahead of you. It should be nice down in FL😎
Yes!! More videos like this! Don’t get me wrong I enjoy the documentary format but it’s been a while since you guys did a full out riding video!
That's a question we've asked ourselves a few times 😂
lol thanks for the continued support, Georgina!!
Love the video me and my friend met you that day at Del Taco remember? What kind of windshields do you have on your Road Glide?
if you guys ever pass through Winnemucca let me know. I've got a restaurant in town and would love to buy you guys dinner!
Sounds good to us!! Thanks for the invite!
Awesome ride you guys, I got my bike (01 FXST) the other day, can't wait to see you all back out in the Tri-State (Cali/Nev/Az) area again...I need to change my avatar now.
Congrats on the wheels!! We'll be headed out again soon!
@@2LaneLife Thank You, can't wait, hopefully you all can make it for the 3rd annual Bullhead River Run Apr. 26-29. Fingers crossed!
Awesome video
Thanks Robert!
Third time's a charm for the phone body slam...lesson learned 😂
Thanks for watching, De Ba!!
@2LaneLife Nice. Some good fishing right there west of sunnyside that i used to hit. Crazy you guys rode through there this time of year.
Yo Lance! How you gonna take a winter ride and leave off the handlebar bark busters/wind guards? Lol
Hahaha never got around to throwing those bad boys back on!!
You guys should invest in a 12V gerbing heated jacket liner. I use one up in Canada to extend my riding season and they are amazing for staying warm.
The plug-in heated gear definitely seems like the way to go! We've heard good things about Gerbing. Thanks for the tips!
Hello from Scotland 🏴
Thanks for tuning in Dougie!!
Hey Josh, Del Taco is Delta Co! Ride safe my friends!
Haha you know it!! Thanks for tuning in🤙
@@2LaneLife Let me know when youz guyz be headin' to the Pioneer Saloon in Goodsprings Nevada, ( 35 or so miles South of Vegas off I 15)
I see yall use Cardo but they have so many products now. What model do yall use/recommend?
We rock the PackTalk Edge. They have some cheaper options, but for us the Edge is the way to go and has all of the features we need. We've got some info/links in the video description and all duo packs are on sale until the 21st if you and a friend/wife wanted to get a set.
Hope that info helps!
@@2LaneLife wonderful, thank you for the info and quik response!
Josh's right hand is still numb 2 weeks later, but he'll survive lol
Thanks for watching!
Living in Pittsburgh heated seats and grips really extends my riding season
Cool video, what Bell helmets are you guys wearing? How do you like them?
Thanks JD! We're rocking the Bell SRT Modular helmets in Nardo Gray. We've tried tons of helmets in our years of riding and these are by far our favorites. Affordable, super comfortable, and once you go modular there's no going back!
We'll link it below. Feel free to use the code TH-cam at checkout for a discount when the time comes 👍

Galen, was your phone in a phone holder? If so, would you mind indicating which one?
Enjoy your videos tremendously
The issue was he attached the sticky mount to a silicone case which doesn't bind correctly. Lance has used the iOmount for 90k+ miles without any issues as he attached the part of the mount that attaches to the case on a hard plastic case 👍
Lesson learned 😂
@2LaneLife thanks. I'm always trying to learn from others since I make so many mistakes of my own 😉
I really enjoy watching you guys get down the road.
Loneliest highway? Well I gotta add this to my list of roads to ride thanks to 2 lane life!!
Definitely one for the list! We can't wait to show you the highway itself on the next episode!😎
My first harley was a 1973 sportster. Currently still riding a 2008 anniversary ultra classic. Newer ones are just too much moola
Awesome!! Gotta love those Twin Cam Baggers! Good stuff👍
Do you guys have camera battery charging stations hooked up the you badges.
Nope, we just bring spare batteries and charge them every night👍
Tackform cell phone holders are the best. Made of metal and very secure.
Thanks for the tip👍
Quad lock all day boys!!! Swear by it
Yup those are great. Josh rocked one for ~4 years until coming across the Peak Design mount which he likes a lot better
What head lights do you guys run on the road glides?
We're rocking the TruBEAM LED Road Glide Headlamp by Custom Dynamics. A worthwhile upgrade for sure!
2lanelife.com/collections/lighting/products/trubeam%C2%AE-led-road-glide-headlamp
@@2LaneLife also you guys headed to Laconia motorcycle week this year 100th anniversary
Always putting out good content! Question.. What size saddle man is on Gallin’s glide? Also what drone do y’all use?
Thanks Jason!! For this trip, Gaylin was rocking the Saddlemen R1300LXE Tactical Roll Bag. Great size for a weekend rip!
2lanelife.com/collections/luggage/products/r1300lxe-tactical-roll-bag
The drone is a DJI Mavic Air2S
Thanks guys, I got one ordered from you guys last night!
You guys need the Quad Lock phone mount.
👍
Gaylin also dropped his phone in my hometown of Lubbock, TX!
He sure did😂
🛑🛑 How many miles do you guys do in a year?
Great Adventure as Always. 👍
Depends on the year, but anywhere between 25k-60k
Thanks for coming along for the ride!
@@2LaneLife
Awesome Guys👍
It looks like you all ride all year round. That 16 degrees was a bit cold for me, and I live in Pennsylvania 🥶.
You mean to tell me they close roads in NV because there an inch of water on the road?? That’s wild
Haha this one was in CA on our way to Nevada. Sounds like it was pretty bad with actual flooding and mud for a few weeks but it was all fixed and clear by the time we came across it
Why are you not riding RG Limited or RG Ultra’s ?
We like the specials. We swap out most of the stock parts anyway and add lowers, so not really missing out on much but are saving weight. Detachable tour pack is nice too
15° is that it?? I got home a few weeks ago from a quick ride (150 miles) and it was 6°
Now those are some cold temps!
New Helmets?
Yes sir! Got some fresh Nardo Grays to switch things up. Still sticking with the SRTs of course😎
What are you guys wearing in 14 degree weather?
Lots and lots of layers as well as dickies insulated coveralls to keep all the warmth in. Josh had a heated vest under everything as well
@@2LaneLife thank you!
Savages on 2 wheels 🤙🏽💯💯
Doing what we do! Thanks for watching! 🤘
Now I'm feeling a little soft for whining about seeing 36 deg on the PCH this morning.
😂🤘
