  • When Xabi Alonso joined Bayer Leverkusen a little over a year ago, the Bayer AG company club was languishing in the relegation zone, and looked to be at serious risk of getting relegated from the Bundesliga.
Now they lead the Bundesliga table, ahead of Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund, they are unbeaten, and they have the best record so far this season of any team in Europe's big five leagues.
So in this video, HITC Sevens takes a closer look at Bayer Leverkusen, their unusual ownership structure, and their remarkable recent rise that has led the club to this point.

While we are currently having some success under Vincenzo Montella, we knew clear that it is just an attempt to calm fans. Also Alfie, you can also make another video about the role of Kazakhstan as the 21st century first sportswashing state and its dark impact. Many people mentioned a lot about autocratic nations using football to sportswash while keep killing people (such as Russia, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Azerbaijan) but Kazakhstan's role deserved a lot of attention because their switch from AFC to UEFA in 2002 has been accused as clearly serving for an autocrat (Nursultan Nazarbayev), and human right movements have called for expulsion of Kazakhstan from UEFA due to its authoritarian nature, having successfully campaigned the European Union not to grant Kazakhstan the green light join the EU. But UEFA was unable to find a solution and because of their decision in 2002, this has since become Europe's biggest stain on their reputation as a leading continent of democracy and human rights, and has inspired authoritarian rulers to follow the Kazakhstan playbook.

There is one thing missing, the goalkeeper-captain Lukas Hradecky, incredible shotstopper with lightning reflexes and cool-as-they-come attitude. Known to take a beer with fans after victory, and an after-game showman, who, at least in international games borrow the horn from Pohjoiskaarre -capo, to make crowd chant his favourites. I was with my brother watching Finland-Slovenia Euro-qualifier, where next to us were Lukas´ brother Tomas Hradecky and his stag party, football players famous in Finnish league and then some, and Mr. Lukas Hradecky had the time to wave at us making noise for him. Relaxed as ever, no dip in performance. Ask Leverkusen -fans, they probably love him too! Top2 goalkeeper in Bundesliga, 3rd or 4th season in Leverkusen, I´d guess...
As for medicine giants making atrocities knowingly and for fun, and I appreciate that this came up, adding to ones mentioned in the video, Purdue pharma selling oxycodone as a miracle drug with NO SIDE EFFECTS for decades in US, yes, it is a functioning, VERY potent painkiller, for cancer pain, temporarily for broken foot or such, nerve damage pain and so on, but NO side effects? Pharmacy, pharmacology and toxicology are my trade, and I didn´t believe doctors in US went for that. Time and time again, thalidomide, Clinton Foundation´s diluted antibiotics, tests on African children, and just wait for the actual backlash of those, even mandated, coerced "medical interventions" that were forcefully pushed on especially western people to cure "an unknown virus of an unknown origin" as the Critical Drinker says (which was almost as deadly as seasonal flu), with a disclaimer for BigPharma, beforehand... If I was in the business, I´d not put money on pfizer, moderna or johnson & johnson anytime soon. Albeit the corrupt legal system covered the owners of Purdue Pharma, the Sacklers, from any real monetary responsibility in the Oxycodone-case, which is abhorrent and disgusting.
At least a century of very bad behaviour and most people still believed pfizer and politicians they funded and media they now own?`If only football fans would have their eyes open and said "NO", world would be a better place, you know there are really a ton of us, EPL alone.

Alfie should make a video about Australia's AFC membership struggle. Ever since joining the AFC in 2006, Australia has been prevented from playing in the regional, senior AFF Championship because Southeast Asians deemed Australia as too powerful and culturally not related to any Southeast Asian nations. Then in 2015, Arab regimes in the Arabian peninsula tried, alongside Southeast Asian countries, to remove Australia due to the country's involvement. There were a lot of conspiracies in the Middle East that Australia bribed referees to defeat the UAE and Peru during the 2022 World Cup playoffs to deny the Middle East another Arab team. The resentment against Australia's AFC participation is so deep in many Asian nations, with the exception of Japan and South Korea due to these countries' stronger football reputation.

The fact that WAFF and AFF (ASEAN) wanted Australia to be excluded from AFC in 2015 was quite strange, given that it happened after UAE and Iraq's semifinal defeat during that year's Asian Cup. Before the tournament itself, AFC wanted Australia to face either Japan or South Korea in the final. In reality, the Socceroos faced the latter after losing 0-1 on the initial group stage encounter and somehow won 2-1 after extra time. Because of the loss in the group stage, the Socceroos could have faced Japan in the semifinal, but Japan lost to UAE.
In turn, when UAE hosted the Asian Cup four years later, the AFC also helped several Arab regimes to get better results, resulting in 3 Arab countries (UAE, Iran, Qatar) making all the way to the semifinal, along with Japan, and Qatar won that tournament.

However, Vietnamese football makers have radicalised Athletic Bilbao's player policy by propping up a neo-cantera one, during which the national team follows an unwritten law that will never naturalise any player who are not of Vietnamese origin or player (including diasporic ones) who can't speak Vietnamese or have no relatives in the country, and will only prioritise players for the national team that passes these criteria: born or live in Vietnam for five years, having relatives in Vietnam, and speak Vietnamese like a local. This was noticed when I found Vietnam league is the least friendly to signing foreign players as their law only allow signing three foreigners and restrict heavily on naturalised players, and their national team has never employed any naturalised player since 2008, which has resulted in criticism by other Southeast Asian fans over their radical neo-cantera plan. If Bilbao fans stumble to see this, I think they will be surprised as well.

I love your videos Alfie, because without watching them it would be easy to say 'oh he's that football youtuber', research a few tables, job done etc But you obviously do your digging and research and I'm sure you end up finding out about things you couldn't have even guessed at! Keep it up and good luck Hull!

Recently Australia has refused visa entry for Shan United, a Burmese club, on humanitarian ground (Australia has been a critic of the terrorist Tatmadaw regime), and the AFC is getting raged by the decision. Yet this is not the only time Burmese football come to headline but also the downfall of Myanmar as a football nation is also worth mentioning. We used to have a strong football team and for once we were among Asia's finest, but because of politics, we faltered. A video about the tragic collapse of Myanmar national football team and Burmese football in general is also worth a lot.

It would be a huge story though if Bayer Leverkusen win the Bundesliga title preventing not only Bayern Munich from winning the league for the first time in over a decade but also Harry Kane in his first season now how unlucky would that be for Harry Kane if he still ends up trophy less at the end of the season despite moving to perennial Bundesliga winners Bayern Munich it would almost make him look cursed

Even though they are playing an incredible season so far i fear that they gonna end up 2nd in the end. If the only could have had that season last year when Bayern was really weak they would have won the championsship easily but this year Bayern is so damn strong in the league that it takes A LOT to even come close to them. So probs to Leverkusen that the still manage to stay ahead even though i fear it wont last till the end of the season.

I'm from Switzerland and I hate Bayern Munich even more than Leipzig with Red Bull, Wolfsburg with Volkswagen and, of course, Leverkusen with Bayer and most terrible Monsanto in the back. I'm a huge Arsenal fan, and they lost again this week against there old enemy Bayern Munich, so that's enough reason to detest the german red-white club.
The football of Bayer this season is absolutely wunderful, I've rarely seen a better one. But I'm so glad you've mentioned the hidden corpses from Bayer and Monsanto. In India they control almost the entire crop-seed market. The poor farmers are forced to buy the exaggerated expensive genetigally modified seeds from Monsanto - and still have to use a lot of herbicides causing cancer and misscarriages.
The world is very difficult to understand in its own. But you cannot trust big companys with there "studies" about there products!!! Never forget that.
    North London forever!

I don't think they are causing Bayern headaches. Bayern are just 2 points behind, only dropped 4 points so far, have a real number 9 now and they get a bit more rest since they are out of the cup.Leverkusen would need to continue this exelent form until the end of the season and we all know that they won't. Just like noone really believed Dortmund would win the league last season, noone believes Leverkusen will do it this time. Sad to say, but in the end, Bayern always wins.
