Really only the magic themed expansion added supernatural stuff. The rest were about dating and pets and... house parties? Ghosts were always there of course
As someone who has ALL the Sims 4 DLC, here's my take: If you feel as though you can get your money's worth then it is worth it. However, you have to actively explore the packs and decide if each and every one will have use. There are very few packs I regret buying (My First Pet, Luxury Party, Batuu, a couple others) but overall I enjoy at least a single item in every one. ALSO UNDERSTAND YOUR GAMEPLAY. If you don't like gameplay but love building, then sometimes the kits don't seem pricey because you'll be using them so often. Consider how you want to play, how often you play, and whether or not you'd have fun. That being said, the kits are a scam.
This is a very insightful comment. I have only purchased packs that have appealed to me and after a decent amount of research that I would enjoy what they add. I am much more likely to purchase a game pack compared to stuff packs or kits because I tend to prioritize gameplay over building and some CAS items. Totally about how you play.
So what happened was that Sims 4 players really wanted "opt out" options for gameplay, so if you really want to get involved in the dlc, you have to make an effort. They did this because people who like family-style gameplay didn't like having witches and fairies running around and making themselves known.
lmao i loved your reaction to Laundry Day Stuff in the list because that one was actually voted on by the community - it's one of like two stuff packs created through fan feedback
Laundry Day is honestly essential DLC. I am glad I listened to the community on that one, because I never would have thought it was worth the money if not.
22:43 "this is the only DLC that wants to advertise itself to me" I'm glad you said that. Journey to Batuu is an ad for Galaxy's Edge at Disney World. Nobody can convince me otherwise.
People complained about all the in-your-face popups in both the Sims 3 and Sims 4 so they took them away. But if you want to know what your DLC does you can activate tutorials at any time from the game options menu. The natural way in the Sims 4 to find stuff to do is talking to other sims! Just travel to all the different neighborhoods and talk to the sims around there! Soon you will be getting tons of calls and texts messages and invites for stuff to do :D
@@MickyD Sure no prob :D Might as well continue playing since you paid all this money for it XD OH! Your Sim's cell is a gateway to everything pretty much. Next to the cell icon is a calendar that displays all the events going on in the world plus lets you add events of your own! :D
@@MickyD I would also suggest playing with your options under Gameplay and Packs under that same menu. It allows more control of the in-game environment. Additionally, play around more with following the Aspiration milestones as many of the ones added with EP and certain GP DLC are actually integrated tutorials that basically nudge you through nuanced gameplay. JTB has two such aspirations. Or the GTW careers that allow you to follow your sim to work offer more gameplay depth.

The Sims 4 may fall short in just about every aspect when it comes to gameplay, but building and character creation have been extremely refined (minus the performance heavy create-a-swatch), and the mod scene is better than ever, with content that far surpasses official expansions. For creative types, it's an even better "doll house simulator" than the Sims 3. Personally, I miss the gameplay of the older games too much to be entirely on the side of Sims 4. It still lacks that rewarding feeling.
It was like if they went back to the sims 2, made a good cas and bb, updated the graphics, then removed all the personality and interesting gameplay When it was released we had to go back to ts2 tricks to make basements!
Only thing I can say in defense of 4 is that removing the open world makes it so way more people can actually play the game (think of how many people couldn't even play 3 cause it was terribly optimized and loaded an entire map at all times, or they couldn't run 3 but still played, experiencing the entirety of the game on like 3 frames per second) and also the way the sims can actually interact with each other/multitask like eating, watching tv and talking to Sims all at the same time. Those systems are improved and nobody ever mentions it and its not very fair for S4, yes the launch was awful and its still not a 10/10 Sims experience but its way better now and there are a few advancements in gameplay systems that everyone over looks because "Boo hoo wah wah no more open world ;(" Only things I do miss really are cars/bikes, and the create a style system should have been brought back. Thanks for listening to my Sims talk.
I've heard the knitting DLC was one of the best ones. I have it, but I've never knitted anything to know for sure, but it's definitely not a "necessary base game" feature, as a niche hobby IRL, but one that has a lot of potential, especially for re-creating the classic image of an old grandma knitting clothes for the family.
Actually not even mad about the knitting one. Pretty normal in a lot of games for a cosmetic to cost around 10 dollars. 5 dollars for a gameplay feature that you'd only buy if you're into knitting seems pretty alright to me.
Mods go a long way. There are a few that are basically necessary imo cuz they expand the emotions, traits, etc. Like the modders go hard lol. For example, there's a pregnancy mod with hospital stuff and everything. So it's a cool mod for players that want a sprinkle of realism when playing. Like ya know making your Sims go to paternity classes and do yoga and all that. Some people like storytelling like that. For traits specifically ya can add new traits and expand the amount of traits ya can equip. Another one would be Vampires. Werewolves just came out and Vampires is showing its age imo. So there's a decent amount of Vampire mods that can alleviate that. Obviously there are sadder occult bits in the game. Aliens and Mermaids basically have no content and are probably assured to get a rework or something eventually. Edit: Like the Highschool stuff coming soon is probably gonna have shallow bits and all that jazz. So personally I just have high expectations for the mods that will add onto it. It's why agree that ya should avoid spending a lot on the game. Buy on a chunky sale, look up which dlc is decent and which you shoild ignore or... ya know 😉 Like I don't support piracy in most cases but I do think sometimes it can be pretty valid tbh. For example, game preservation.
I think I've never seen someone experience the game like this, unfamiliar with ALL the DLC and experiencing it all at once. Pretty unique! Edit: it's the unfamiliarity that's unique, not someone having all DLCs lol
To fix the lag, try pressing ESC after entering live mode (Exiting build mode) and then exiting out of the pause mode and for some reason the game starts running better again, the lag only occurs in build mode for me
A little info about wizard Sims in cas for those who were confused: -There are two randomise sim buttons by the way, the one furthest to the right is randomise from the gallery i.e. Sims other people have made and uploaded, so that's why it randomised a spellcaster :) -The add sim button has an occult button where you can add whichever occult you want (if you have the dlc) i.e. mermaid, alien, vampire, spellcaster, if you don't press this you'll just have a normal sim
As some have already pointed out, when the game gets laggy in build mode/live mode just press esc to bring up the menu and then esc to close it again. That should fix it. Can’t believe how much all the packs cost… I may also have bought all of them… I’m enjoying your Sims videos, thank you Micky.

Personally I enjoy playing the Sims 4 every now & then however I agree that the main game without DLC feels very bare bones. With DLC the game is more fun. I especially like the Vampire pack as I love to roleplay as a Vampire in games any chance I get, yes I'm talking about you Skyrim. I totally agree with Micky D's point about EA & their extortionate amount of DLC, as well as how much they charge for it. I remember buying the Cats & Dogs DLC for my sister for her birthday about 4 or 5 years ago & it was like £40 or something! I mean I could've bought a full game for that price. She barely even played it too, to add insult to injury... Anyway I appreciate you trying to educate us on how not to spend our money Mick D my boy but don't feel you need to do something like this again for a while. "Remember when this game used to be a life simulator?" Yes. Sims 1 before any expansions were installed. Sims 1 had vampires, zombies, ghosts, alien abductions, and spell casters; so the sims has pretty much always had supernatural stuff in it.
Really only the magic themed expansion added supernatural stuff. The rest were about dating and pets and... house parties?
Ghosts were always there of course

As someone who has ALL the Sims 4 DLC, here's my take:
If you feel as though you can get your money's worth then it is worth it.
Totally about how you play.
i would just say to pirate it

Hi what laptop do you have ? I’m new to this and IDK how much space I need for like 5 packs
since ea is money hungry and shit i would just say to pirate it
So what happened was that Sims 4 players really wanted "opt out" options for gameplay, so if you really want to get involved in the dlc, you have to make an effort. They did this because people who like family-style gameplay didn't like having witches and fairies running around and making themselves known.

Oh, good to know thank you!

@@MickyD usually the aspirations are good to get an idea of what to do to get get to more out of each dlc pack

It was like if they went back to the sims 2, made a good cas and bb, updated the graphics, then removed all the personality and interesting gameplay
When it was released we had to go back to ts2 tricks to make basements!
It has open world tho.
I think the best doll house simulator was the one with the sus guy
Thanks for listening to my Sims talk.
none of that matters. Sims is for broken people
Absolute madman. Really didn’t learn from the sims 3 did ya lol
Also: imagine paying like $5 so your sim can knit. My lord EA
Yeah it was literally included in the Sims 2 free time and it wasn't even close to being the only thing to do in that expansion pack either....
5? Try 10…
Op
Edit:
Like the Highschool stuff coming soon is probably gonna have shallow bits and all that jazz. So personally I just have high expectations for the mods that will add onto it. It's why agree that ya should avoid spending a lot on the game. Buy on a chunky sale, look up which dlc is decent and which you shoild ignore or... ya know 😉
Like I don't support piracy in most cases but I do think sometimes it can be pretty valid tbh. For example, game preservation.
Ah yes, The Sims 4, with DLC for its DLC. Can’t believe you went ahead a bought everything, absolute madlad!
I think I've never seen someone experience the game like this, unfamiliar with ALL the DLC and experiencing it all at once. Pretty unique!
Edit: it's the unfamiliarity that's unique, not someone having all DLCs lol
It happened to me it was overwhelming

I actually can't imagine spending this much money when Sims 5 eventually comes out. I don't think I can do it
Will it though? They'll keep pumping out DLC for the sims 4 forever
To fix the lag, try pressing ESC after entering live mode (Exiting build mode) and then exiting out of the pause mode and for some reason the game starts running better again, the lag only occurs in build mode for me
same
The lag happens because it wants to unload all objects in buy mode
Typically this will resolve, but sometimes you have to restart the game
As someone who does have most of the DLC (I know, I know) I still absolutely want to see you review each pack
the monsters inc scare island saxophone playing in the back is amazing thank you sir
A little info about wizard Sims in cas for those who were confused:
-There are two randomise sim buttons by the way, the one furthest to the right is randomise from the gallery i.e. Sims other people have made and uploaded, so that's why it randomised a spellcaster :)
-The add sim button has an occult button where you can add whichever occult you want (if you have the dlc) i.e. mermaid, alien, vampire, spellcaster, if you don't press this you'll just have a normal sim
You really, really, REALLY did NOT have to do this.
”I wouldn’t say it’s a bad game, it’s just kinda disappointing” is such an acurate description of this game
As some have already pointed out, when the game gets laggy in build mode/live mode just press esc to bring up the menu and then esc to close it again. That should fix it.
Can’t believe how much all the packs cost… I may also have bought all of them…

I honestly had no issues with vanilla sims 3 maybe some lag, common for things loading in any game, here and there, things starting going down hill when mods were added lol when I removed mods and not used the store, I had no issues.
About bugging in the end of the video - it really happens sometimes, with no visible reason, ts4 stars running super slow in the build/buy mod, wich affects live mod aswell, but the repair is super easy - just save the game, and everything will run as good as it did before)

The sims 4 is legit pretty fun, as long as you dont pay for it

I totally agree with Micky D's point about EA & their extortionate amount of DLC, as well as how much they charge for it. I remember buying the Cats & Dogs DLC for my sister for her birthday about 4 or 5 years ago & it was like £40 or something! I mean I could've bought a full game for that price. She barely even played it too, to add insult to injury...
