    Some additional info and clarifications!
    *Bug Score & Improving Gameplay Scores* - The introduction of the Bug Score may have influenced Gameplay scores for packs with notable issues, as players might feel less compelled to factor bugs into their Gameplay ratings.
    Although the survey specifically asked participants to rate gameplay as if it were bug-free, this distinction didn’t seem to make a significant difference in overall pack ratings.
    Notable increases were observed in the Gameplay scores for My Wedding Stories and Dine Out, both of which are known for being particularly buggy. However, other packs like Dream Home Decorator and High School Years, which also received higher Bug Scores, did not show meaningful changes in their Gameplay ratings.
    I do think the bug fixes for both My Wedding Stories and Dine Out did genuinely increase their gameplay.
    It is certainly possible that with the addition of the bug score that influenced the other scores too. It will be interesting to see the trend next year.
    *7:53* - I said that potentially only 3% of people that own Fashion Streetwear Kit bought it. I made a mistake here. 30.2% of people surveyed said they own it, and 27.4% of people who own it said they got it for free.

    Next year you should add a question about replayability. There are so many good dlc's but I think it's impactful to know if you only play it once and never touch it again.

      @@Darkestscars definitely! And maybe some ranking of if you still think it was worth buying. For example I like owning jungle adventure even though the replay ability is relatively low because of the build/buy and CAS. I barely ever touch outdoor retreat because it was boring to play the herbalism thing the first time and it’s genuinely painful to do with seasons making half the stuff un harvestable whenever you go! And while the build buy and CAS in that pack were nice for their time, there are plenty of alternatives now from better packs. I wouldn’t personally rebuy outdoor retreat now.

      I was wondering if it may also be that EA doing so many loudly publicized bug fixes for dine out and my wedding stories just got people to play it again to see if it works now. So it reminded them of what the gameplay actually is, but also reminded them the bugs are not all the way fixed.

    • @crisiscat

      @@JamesTurnerYT I think some people just don't jazz with DHD and HSY gameplay regardless of how buggy or not they are. Speaking for myself, I don't like seeing my sims in the high school class and not really do anything and waiting until it's lunchtime. Maybe if there was more gameplay like idk make your sim try to pass notes or take a nap and have the chance of being caught by the teacher? I just rather send them to the regular high school rabbithole.

    • @laurasenz
      @laurasenz วันที่ผ่านมา +10

      @@crisiscat For me, Dream Home Decorator and the photography career are two of the jobs I could easily replay over and over, but DHD is still unplayable for me (quite literally) because a lot of the time, the job just won't complete and my Sim is stuck for days on the client's lot until I have to quit and fail the assignment. High School Years, however, I think is one of the most poorly designed packs-the child and teen life stages are long enough that there really needs to be more to do with your younger Sims (which in turn helps to grow more invested in them as adults), and I totally agree, the gameplay in the high school should *had* far more to do, to start with, but also been a lot more interactive and customisable. If you're going to be sitting through class, it's ridiculous to me that your Sim can't actually interact with it, and as a player, you're either fast-forwarding or just sitting at your computer watching them sit at a desk; like, *who* thought would be fun gameplay. The activities and clubs should be far more playable as well, not just rabbit holes, and your teens' different personalities should be able to come out more at school-and emphatically, teens from your other families in the save should also show up at school, not just the same townies and the game's random NPCs, which is one of the most boring elements of the whole thing to me.

    one reason occult packs are the highest even though not everyone likes them is that we only rated it on the survey if we owned it and if someone knows they dont like occults they’re not gonna own the pack. so the scores are only from people that like occults

    • @dreamerbee
      @dreamerbee วันที่ผ่านมา +17

      I was thinking that, and there's a general consensus among occult players that Sims 4 does occults better than any other sims game. People love to see Sims 3 through rose-tinted glasses but when compared with Sims 4 occults, we got a lot of them in Sims 3 Supernatural but they didn't offer as much depth, interesting gameplay or re-playability.

    • @nickyn1083
      @nickyn1083 วันที่ผ่านมา +10

      It also goes to show they’re just overall good packs. EA has put more effort into occult packs than they do a lot of others, and it shows from the score. Just because someone likes vampires doesn’t mean the vampire pack is automatically good - if it wasn’t a quality pack the score would reflect that because the people who own it would have rated it poorly. I own the occult packs, and even though I don’t use them much anymore I can still acknowledge that they put a lot of effort in and they still hold up compared to more recent DLC. The same could be said for other themes, like college and high school being bought by people who enjoy that type of gameplay.

I still find FR buggy enough to make gameplay not fun (the building bugs are very very bad and annoying, especially when doing some out of the box stuff like a Tiny Town LP), but I guess if people play the game in a less experimental way they won't come across those that much.

    Great video. Eco lifestyles downfall is the NAPs. I do wish you could decide which worlds use NAPs so you could enjoy Eco lifestyle NAPs in Evergreen Harbor but also turn off the mechanic in other worlds if you want.
    Butlers aren’t that bad if you just let them be as an appliance. Trying to get them to do things is annoying, but for my wealthy Sims just having them active around the house, they do clean and take care of babies and repair and such. The tuning is just bad sometimes, at times things have to be almost dire before they get to it.

      @TheDawnofVanlife วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@slwrabbitsI know about this, but its litterally annoying to do this as a rotational player who plays in several worlds or remember to do it whenever you start a new save at EVERY home. There aren’t universal NAPs, they are by neighborhood. So if you make friends with a Sim in a different neighborhood where a different NAP is in effect or you move or your sim friend/love intrest/whatever is in a neighborhood where a NAP is active that wasn’t active in your neighborhood you can experience NAP behavior from sims that might seem/feel like a bug but its really just the NAP affecting their autonomy. I’d rather just have an actual OFF button to ensure no NAPs where I don’t want them. Even the game options settings for eco lifestyle don’t fully shut them down. It will turn off voting and creating new ones. But if you turn off NAPs in game options, NAPs active before hitting the switch will stay alive and going in many neighborhoods. They are pervasive.

      I mean you could say that for almost any pack, some people are really into replicating their current ‘experience’ but with some twist or control point they can’t have in real life (like, IDK, going to college as a werewolf) and some people only want to play things that are 100% opposite of their real life. Like being a famous actor or solving the strangerville mystery. Or being any occult in game.
      And some people are just storytellers. They don’t have sim-selves and play the journey of their sim for that Sims. Like I enjoy my Sims going to uni often (when they go, not every Sims does) because I have seen them be born and grow up and going to college is just an experience I want to experience with that sim because it fits that sim. It has nothing to do with my experience with Uni, because there experience will be theres and different from not only my experience but different from any previous Sim I went to uni with anyway.

    I really enjoyed the changes to the survey this year, especially adding in bug scores & world scores not AS effective on the overall scores.
    Something I’d be interested to know is - on packs where we rated their bugginess, you asked the question of “do the bugs effect your enjoyment?” I would’ve been interested to know how many bugs stopped enjoyment vs a small amount of bugs and generally what the skew was for players with how many bugs they faced. I don’t play constantly and go in bursts of playing loads then not at all, so there were a fair few packs I just hadn’t really experienced many bugs in (or couldn’t remember if I had).

Hot tubs are essentially useless in gameplay for anything other than a woohoo destination. In Sims 3 you could basically tell your Sims to go in the hot tub and they would just chill there, it would rapidly increase both fun and social (assuming another Sim was with them)

ALL those worlds are technically "in" Magnolia Promenade... you just can't click them on the map! BUT!!! You got the ENTIRE WORLD OF NEWCREST to make up for it!
    Honestly...Newcrest & Magnolia Promenade should be combined into one score.

      Newcrest is free for everyone and not linked to GTW, so I don’t agree it makes up for Magnolia Promenade and no matter how much code they use for those secret lots unless you play the attached careers they do just get forgotten about in a worlds black hole. Sixam also needs an overhaul, there’s nothing there. The biggest problem with these hidden worlds is in the base design of the game, LOADING SCREENS. Most players naturally drift to reducing their interactions with loading screen leading to a lot of ‘never leave the lot’ syndrome. Like there’s no use for the police station outside the detective career, you can’t get arrested playing civilian Sims. There are no cops patroling the world leading to the police station being just for playing detective as opposed to part of overall gameplay. Births are so quick, you lose time in loading screens going to give birth in the hospital meaning most Sim births happen at home. And your sick active sims can’t vist the hospital to get treated, they just chug some meds at home. Even tho it can be buggy, people visit the vet clinic more than the hospital because 1) its on a map and visible and 2) its a lot type where it is easy to build your own in any map. And the science lab is fun, but again no use outside the science career. There’s nothing that makes these lots a part of natural gameplay outside of the Career link.
      Which means no matter how much code is in those lots, if they don’t naturally draw players to play with them its just wasted code on bad game design. The vet clinic and the secret lab in strangerville (for example) overall work better because you can see them and this naturally draws you to want to use/visit them.
      And even a portal world like the magical realm in glimmerbrook feels more overall game incorperated because at least there’s a portal to get you there on the map. I also think occult magic ‘secret’ worlds make sense to have a barrier to use where as a hospital and police-station not being walkby locations on a map do not. There should at least be a little fake portal bus stop/subway station/trolly port where you can just visit the hospital or police station because its not some magical secret land that should be locked away for ‘special circumstances’ gameplay.

    I feel like maybe some people that took this survey haven't played in Sulani recently. The fishing bug makes that world unplayable. It's terrible. Also, the collectibles there seem to lag the game so badly if you have them on your lot. Idk what happened with that pack but after Love Struck came out Sulani has become fully unplayable and it used to be my favorite world. Anyway, this was an awesome survey, I'm glad I took it and I really appreciate all the work you did putting this together for us.

      I didn't know if I was somehow fishing incorrectly, but the last time I tried to fish there none of my sims could. It was annoying, because I feel like the endangered fish and the whole fishing aesthetic were pretty advertised features.

      @@ninadreams127 Odd... you can look online too there is a whole long thread about it at EA. I can't fish at any of the fishing signs or off the beaches. The only place I can fish is off of one of the boats. Considering it's a sea-themed pack/world its pretty frustrating.

    Thank you for making these surveys! Really, I somehow had the impression Lovestruck was really buggy and annoying :D
    Also I paused at 18:53 and was like "... wait! Where is Windenburg? How is it not in the top row?!" and then realized the top 5 were seperated :D

    Next time you find yourself needing a new series between packs or lets plays, you could do "playing with only my communities top rated packs of the year" series
    Aside from spotify wrapped, idk if I've ever been more excited for a yearly breakfowm. It's always thorough and well thought out. Well done, James!

    I think a question about overall enjoyment would be a good addition in next year's survey, maybe even a good replacement for the bug question? As an average player I find it hard to see or notice if something is buggy or not.

    This years video is so much better than last year. Now I'm scoring James a 7 out of 10. Now it is a nicer video and editing quality and it is quicker than last year. But i think it could be even quicker. All the numbers get too overwhelming to me but i like the trailers behind James and I think it is very well done on the whole. Keep up the good work James!

    I think in the next year it would be helpful to account for what degree of the sample plays with mods. Especially script mods. I play with several script mods, myself, and I've run into an issue of figuring out if a bug is caused by a broken mod or just the pack being buggy.
    Really cool data this year though!

    This is super interesting, and I'm so glad you do it!
    One question I'd be interested in, per pack, is related to value. Like, "Is this pack worth buying [full price, 25% off, 50% off or more, only if it's free, not even if it's free]?"
    Or even just the 10-point scale to rate the value of the pack monetarily. I think if you did that for the kits, the way they skewed that final list would be different.
    (Also, if that was already a part of your survey and I just forgot, please forgive me! I don't recall you mentioning that metric in the video, and it's been a while since I did the survey.)

    Realm of Magic missed an opportunity, in that they could have had a career in the entertainment area of a stage mugacian with his helper. A few props, like the water tank, disappearing closet, etc. and it could have been a lot of fun. I feel the same way about the musician career. I wish they would have allowed musicians to have musician friends that they could form a band with, for rock music, or a string quartet for classical music, a jazz combo, etc. Game play could have been so much better. Having career entertainers, all of them, be able to perform for others as a group, would have been extra fun.

    Just experienced a bad bug with for rent. I deleted all the units on a residential rental with the intention of then turning the lot into a regular residential lot. Even though I bulldozed EVERYTHING, the lot refuses to accept that it’s not a residential rental anymore, claims there’s still tenants on the property, even though I travel to the property and it’s a completely empty lot. So frustrating…
