Why do people keep saying that on so many groups/bands that were absolutely NOT underrated? Vangelis, for one, was a well know musical giant till his passing about six months ago, which makes it about two months before you wrote your comment. Demis Roussos was also a well-known artist. I humbly admit not knowing the other members. Having said that, Psychedelic Rock was a niche genre, but not underrated

Being 71 I have lived and experienced music from so many generations I feel my generation has been very lucky my grandparents born in 1890’s introduced me to old folk and music hall songs and old traditional balladsMy parents born in the 1900’s and 1920’s lived and fought through the war with the old crooners and big bands my mother sang with one in the war years.I have lived through the fifties, sixties ,seventies, from the Beatles the hippies and all the great heavy and rock bands including Jethro Tull and T Rex as well as the contemporary folk of the seventies and loved them all.In the words of a tradition Russian ballad “. THOSE WERE THE DAYS MY FRIENDS “ WE ENJOYED EVERY ONE. LONG LIVE GOOD MUSIC.

My mom absolutely loved this song. I would hear it playing on her stereo almost every weekend when she would be getting ready to go out. She passed away a few years ago, and I miss her more than words can describe. But I will keep this song alive and listen to it in my mom’s honor until the day I die. Thank you for so many great memories, and for giving me the best childhood i could have asked for.

This was recorded well before digital technology provided an easy and affordable way to add reverb ambience to recordings. There were only two options back then: an actual echo chamber room wired with speakers and microphones that used up valuable real estate OR an expensive and also very large directly wired "plate" reverb panel device that also required a sizable space for isolation. I would love to know the details of how they achieved this incredible drum sound.

Yes, the perfect era! 16 to 24 track tech allowing properly panned instruments and running at 15 inches per second (the sixties mostly 4 to 8 track at half that speed reducing the fidelity). Prog rock creativity at its best before over-production 🙂

@@wombatski100 Aphrodite's Child were based in France so were not listened in the UK, especially since they lasted 2.5 years. The last album, this one, was released after the split up of the band and was not promoted or played by radios, firstly because it has an orgasm song that lasts many minutes and the label thought that was over the top and should be taken out, and also because of the themes which were a little mistakenly interpreted. And because the band had disbanded and Demis Roussos was thinking of his personal plans already, while Vangelis was already writing music for film, I think the french film "sex", and the other two members were looking what to do next and Sideras was also considering going solo. The album took the ok to be released a year after the scheduled release and not played in radios. Eventually, slowly, it got its way and was appreciated in the UK by music lovers and appreciators who were looking around for stuff, without promotion not even in France let alone UK, and slowly started to be appreciated for the super quality of the album but gradually among people looking to find good music. But the album would not have been listened to in the UK early on I would think judging from the way was completed, released, and promoted in France.
It is though one of the best prog albums of all time and widely recognized as such now.

Indeed. This song is just simply other-worldly. To really appreciate the brilliance of it though you really do need to listen to it at extremely high volume levels. This is one of those very rare songs that the louder you play it, the better it sounds. I would recommend listening to this song as loud as you possibly can (without damaging your hearing in the process). This is the kind of song that has the potential to make your head explode - and that's exactly what a track like this is intended to do.

Dear Demis Roussos, I truly enjoyed listening to your voice when you were singing in Aphrodite's Child, with The Four Horsemen as one of my favourites. Thank you. Rest in peace.

I remember I wrote a review (in Chinese) for a Hong Kong music newspaper in my high school days in the 70S; I wish I still had a copy of that. One of the most unique albums of all time.

This certainly deserves to be recognised as one of the greatest guitar solos ever played. Take a bow Silver Koulouris. And the chord at 5:08 is unreal.

I just discovered these guys from Spotify, and man, what a song. The entire arrangement was fabulous but Demis Roussos' ethereal, semi-operatic vocals were just epic and out of this world!

I got the album 666is as a gift in 1973. I wasn't convinced. Meanwhile I know Vangelis is on the same Level as Pink Floyd. No-one is above of them

Great piece of greek rock music. So big talent there and imagine what Vangelis achieved!!! Now we listen this band more because of our greek lady friend and her husband, wondering when to go back the beaches there.
