Why do people keep saying that on so many groups/bands that were absolutely NOT underrated? Vangelis, for one, was a well know musical giant till his passing about six months ago, which makes it about two months before you wrote your comment. Demis Roussos was also a well-known artist. I humbly admit not knowing the other members. Having said that, Psychedelic Rock was a niche genre, but not underrated

My mom absolutely loved this song. I would hear it playing on her stereo almost every weekend when she would be getting ready to go out. She passed away a few years ago, and I miss her more than words can describe. But I will keep this song alive and listen to it in my mom’s honor until the day I die. Thank you for so many great memories, and for giving me the best childhood i could have asked for.

This was recorded well before digital technology provided an easy and affordable way to add reverb ambience to recordings. There were only two options back then: an actual echo chamber room wired with speakers and microphones that used up valuable real estate OR an expensive and also very large directly wired "plate" reverb panel device that also required a sizable space for isolation. I would love to know the details of how they achieved this incredible drum sound.

Indeed. This song is just simply other-worldly. To really appreciate the brilliance of it though you really do need to listen to it at extremely high volume levels. This is one of those very rare songs that the louder you play it, the better it sounds. I would recommend listening to this song as loud as you possibly can (without damaging your hearing in the process). This is the kind of song that has the potential to make your head explode - and that's exactly what a track like this is intended to do.

@@wombatski100 Aphrodite's Child were based in France so were not listened in the UK, especially since they lasted 2.5 years. The last album, this one, was released after the split up of the band and was not promoted or played by radios, firstly because it has an orgasm song that lasts many minutes and the label thought that was over the top and should be taken out, and also because of the themes which were a little mistakenly interpreted. And because the band had disbanded and Demis Roussos was thinking of his personal plans already, while Vangelis was already writing music for film, I think the french film "sex", and the other two members were looking what to do next and Sideras was also considering going solo. The album took the ok to be released a year after the scheduled release and not played in radios. Eventually, slowly, it got its way and was appreciated in the UK by music lovers and appreciators who were looking around for stuff, without promotion not even in France let alone UK, and slowly started to be appreciated for the super quality of the album but gradually among people looking to find good music. But the album would not have been listened to in the UK early on I would think judging from the way was completed, released, and promoted in France.
It is though one of the best prog albums of all time and widely recognized as such now.

+SRNF I hear you. My brother's fiance dropped by while we were watching Michael Shrieve's drum solo on "Soul Sacrifice" at Woodstock. She said it was boring. I thought to myself there is no way my brother can marry this chick. That was over 20 years ago. Let's just say that he and Lisa never got married. Thank God for †hat. I met a girl in college back in the 90s that I thought was pretty cool, but whenever we were together in the car, she wanted to turn on shitty top 40 crap. We actually got into arguments. I did not want to compromise and say ten minutes of my music then ten minutes of her shitty music. I preferred not having the radio on at all. One to many of those arguments lead to us calling it quits. I have no regrets. Top 40 sucked balls in the 90s and it sucks today.

Good for you +SRNF! Nobody needs that kind of negativity in their life. I would have to rate this as one of my top 5 favorite songs of all time. That guitar.....my god! What more can you say?

Τhe second time I show the sin of gluttony in a music video was twenty years later in a pet shop boys video it's a sin and the third time in the early nineties walk in my shoes by the also great Deepesh Mode! Demis Roussos and his group was ahead of their time!

Dear Demis Roussos, I truly enjoyed listening to your voice when you were singing in Aphrodite's Child, with The Four Horsemen as one of my favourites. Thank you. Rest in peace.

This guys voice is so epic. Almost operatic. It really makes their music that much better. All the musicians are superb. So great to hear Biblical themes put to such wonderful music.

This certainly deserves to be recognised as one of the greatest guitar solos ever played. Take a bow Silver Koulouris. And the chord at 5:08 is unreal.

@@vegetableman5062 He only played on one album. In the first two albums he was doing military service, recorded this album, and the band disbanded.

This album along with Pink Floyd's first albums are some of the best ever written and produced! The sound and feeling is outta here!
