- The Oilers bolstered their forward group with the signings of Viktor Arvidsson and Jeff Skinner, while also bringing back Connor Brown, Corey Perry, Adam Henrique and Mattias Janmark. TSN Hockey analyst Frankie Corrado joins SC with Jay Onrait to share his thoughts on Edmonton's moves on Monday. Corrado also discusses the Leafs moves, Jake DeBrusk signing in Vancouver, the Senators trading Jakob Chychrun, and much more.
Keeping Henrique Janmark and Perry whilst adding Arvidsson and Skinner is a miracle. Going into free agency the goal was to just not get worse, and we’ve gotten better in just the first day!
I'd have liked Sam Carrick instead of Perry. Question is whether Perry's body is keeping up with his value as an experienced vet.

And all the players we knew would be gone are gone Warren , Vinny didn’t really lose anything and gained more depth.

They lasted almost five minutes before talking about the Leafs. This is why there is a low-grade national hateboner for the Leafs. We just went to the Finals ffs, if they can't find someone who can talk about the Oilers for 13 and a half minutes without stopping to spout dewey-eyed haikus about how the guys whose leg they are humping should really hurry up and win the Cup they should hire me.

Better at forward maybe (likely losing Kane?), but forward was never an issue. The back end got even worse losing Desharnais, and their kids Holloway and Broberg don't have contracts.

@@LorenzoSCC You clearly don't actually know anything about the Oilers. Their defense is about the same, Desharnais left, but he was a peripheral piece that had his spot stolen by Broberg in the playoffs, but they also added a big depth D man in Josh Brown to replace the physicality. The main cogs in the Oilers D core that was so dominant all last season are still here. Holloway is going to be in tough to make the roster. They may move a piece or two out, likely a Ceci and/or McLeod.

Only lost Warren we knew he was gone lost Vinny we knew he was gone lost Carrick but we figured he be gone. Gained another Carrick another Skinner , Ardvidson , got Perry back Rico back Brown back Pickard back Janmark back Stecher back and all the players we knew were leaving left so we didn’t really lose anything just gotta get Holloway and Broberg done.

Brown, Henrique & Janmark is a fantastic trio to get back. Looks like the Leafs got just the kind of D man they need in Tanev.

Oilers filled the bottom six holes they got better. Deadline day they fix the backend with a big name defense trade

Oilers offense looks insane now. Seems like they have lost Kane to LTRI, otherwise their cap wont work.
But Foegele went and now they have Skinner on similar cap hit, propably in a top 6 role either next to MCD or Draisaitl. Arvidsson if healthy will help the 2nd line a lot. Skinner - Draisaitl - Arvidsson sounds scary if your first is RNH - MCD - Hyman.
Their 3rd should then be Holloway - Henrique - Brown and their 4th Janmark - McLeod - Perry with Ryan as backup.
Scary offense.

@@dana102083 that's a good point, especially considering Desharnais and Carrick are gone too. Desharnais wasn't a fighter, but his size gave some intimidation factor. I think Josh Brown may have to play the enforcer role, and Perry and Janmark may need to play some aggravator/defender roles this year too.

Wow, it’s depth scoring galore! Bummer to lose Foegele but having Arvidsson and the Skinner & Skinner show more than makes up for it
Foegele was not really all that great, he has speed but lack on puck handling and questionable shot choices. He is very effective shooting from the front of goalie but otherwise he shoots wide more often than Nurse.
Foegele was without a doubt the single dumbest player I have ever seen. Been counting the days before that clown is gone. Massive upgrades were made.
@@taskdon769thats the truth right there. I think its not a shot half the time and just a big dump.. both he and mcleod lessened this in the later playoffs but hasnt been great. He had some great moments and glad he his 20 goals this year. Glad I will still get to see him play a lot.

Oilers can't win a cup without resting their top players. These signings should help.
Oilers should be a repeat for next years final again if everything goes right. But the West is a tough conference to get through. Even tougher now with some of the other team's signings. But, the Oilers should prevail. Arvidsson and Skinner are two good signings. It's going to be tough for other teams to deal with their forwards.
The west is tough? Weird how Florida fans were saying Edmonton had it easy compared to their guys.
Most of the big players got worse in the west, I see this year as way more of a free pass than last year.
2 Skinner's can't be a good thing lol. Arvidson is a good signing, guess he got tired of losing to the Oilers in the playoffs.

Their forwards are scary, but there is only one puck to share. The defense is still a weak point.

Ja mark deserves the money and to stay, and I’m so happy they showed respect and love and gave Corey Perry another chance

Arv & Skinner have potential to score 50+ combined.
The defence is still the weak spot, but the forwards on just got dramatically better on what was already a stacked offence
I don’t think the defence as a whole is a weak spot. They wouldn’t get to the cup final. The weak spot is Cody Ceci especially if he plays with Nurse.

The Oilers have a winning culture and one heck of a cup window. Nashville did good, but Edmonton did MUCH better.

Brought back the Janmark - Henrique - Brown line. Brought back Corey Perry and his ticket to the finals. Brought in Arvidsson and Skinner, 2 guys both able to play top 6. I really wish Jackson would take that dual role and take the GM seat.

I'd have preferred Sam Carrick over Perry. Can't deny Perry's experience, but it has to be noticeable through his play on the ice, and his body isn't keeping up. I'd be happy for him to prove me wrong. Carrick is a right shot center with 53% on faceoffs and would provide the toughness that the Oilers need a little more of.
Can’t disagree. But I wonder if there’s more to the story. S. Carrack didn’t play in the playoffs much at all. He may not have been a willing trade partner.

As a Vancouverite I hate to say that Edmonton looks stacked on paper. They should try to keep Kane - grit for playoffs and pray that their goaltending holds up. I like my Canucks but Demko will have to stand on his head to compete with the Oilers.

Agree they need kane he was good to loose him I think is a stupid move he has toughness and goal scorer he didn't have a bad year he had his gordy Howe hat trick in playoffs got brown his first goal he is if healthy a great player and he liked Edmonton and the city

Attitude wise Corey Perry comes problem free. Kane doesn't even have the nous to be injured, and still creates problems. His career has been plagued with problems, all created by himself. How many cups, and Oly-Golds does Kane have? Lol.
they got very old, too many over 30's, won't work in playoffs, we will see in April, Arvidson always injured, Skinner was not a good locker room guy, Kane-Perry-Drai were arguing constantly on bench during playoffs, just another quick fix, pull the wool over Oiler fans, once again they can't sign anyone when they only offer 1-2 year deals and McDavid-Drai-Nurse get all the money, you want to play in Edmonton it's at a discount, they are some free agants currently in London, the Oilers could sign, after their court cases, well if you're bringing in Stan Bowman might as well bring some more criminals
I think Draisatl paires with Connor. Together they still are the most leathal pair in hockey. Although it did not click this time in playoffs.

Needed to drop perry, could have got some speed/youth for that and we don’t need veterans, our core are veterans now and have plenty of playoff experience. Other than that this was amazing so far!
