I was raised in flat, treeless middle America. I moved to Portland when I was 18 and was constantly in awe of the scenery. That part of the country has spectacular scenery.

Growing up in a flat part of the country, "flat" = "normal." It would no more occur to me to look at the landscape and say "so flat" than to walk into a big room and remark that the floor was "so flat."

Yeah to me you really have to be closer to the coast to be "PNW". The further you get from real cities like Seattle or Portland, the more likely you are to encounter people who think we did not evolve from lower forms of life lol.
Coastal PNW is awesome. Have you tried riding the Coast Starlight Train from Seattle to Los Angeles? I have only ridden it from Seattle to San Jose; it was my "ride home" from the Navy in 2003 when I got my honorable discharge. The Yeoman First Class said the Navy would pay no matter how expensive, so I got a sleeper train on the Coast Starlight. It takes 24 hours to get to San Jose, so obviously, your normal form of travel between those places is going to be jet aircraft (even HSR would still take twice as long as the jet), but you know, if you have the vacation time for it to take 24 hours, it's an amazing ride. Food is included, and you can hang out in a viewing car that has huge windows. 🙂
Go all the way to Los Angeles I think would take about 36 hours total. Then there's another train that goes down to San Diego, although it's down right now for repairs. They built it literally right on the coast back in the 1800s....made sense at the time, but there's been a lot of beach erosion due to climate change. They plan to eventually move about 10 miles of it inland, which sucks because you lose the view, but it will mean it almost never has to be closed down, and it might be a faster ride, too. 🙂

You shoulda went over th pass from sisters to Eugene, you go from high desert to true rainforest, triple canopy and over a 100” of rain a year, in a few miles. I finished growing up further southwest. Small area close to the coast, still true rainforest. Gargantuan trees that weren’t logged yet, insane old growth. I grew up around cedar trees bigger than most trees on earth. Haha. Found old, dead sequoias way up in the woods, miles in on foot, after hours of driving in old logging roads, at lower speeds. Fallen trees that were 300-400 feet tall, trunks 12-20 foot in diameter. And living trees 2-300 feet tall, and some extra, huge trunks. Random apple, pear and fig orchards in the deep woods. Water in every valley or draw. Wildlife everywhere, berries and mushrooms, plants, food all over. Now the downside, wet, almost always wet and cold, or cool. If not those things, then it’s wet, and hot. Humid. The worst of summer have seen 130 F and 100 percent humidity in the deep valleys, no wind, or high humidity. Cold. Fog. Freezing rain, snow, sleet, wind, 20-30 mph sustained or a bit more, gusts up to 120 mph plus recorded in the major valleys. We had trees snap like twigs and be blown tens of yards without touching the ground, basically tens of meters for the silly metric folk. A meter is 1/4 more a foot compared to a yards, yard is 36” meter is 39” and a little change.

Bonjour Marie, glad to hear your flights to the Northwest went smoothly.
That area is very beautiful, and you've captured it perfectly so far. It's funny that your first tour guide was named Gary Cooper. There was a famous American actor named Gary Cooper (RIP) who was born just to the east in Helena, Montana. He was born in Lewis and Clark County.
I'm glad your entry into Canada was better this time. The border guards are just doing their jobs. I imagine as soon as they see your face they trust you. I know I would.

Marie, did they tell you WHY the lake was named, "Lake Pend Oreille"? I'm sure you can guess. 😃 I started out life not far from there and you were driving through the Selkirk Mountain Range. Many years ago, my family made their living logging in those mountains. I'm glad you had a great experience and I'm happy that you keep Dramamine with you now! No need to feel sick anymore! 😃 Thanks for sharing your experience. It's too bad you didn't have more time in that area because there's a LOT of stuff you missed that you really would have enjoyed. Maybe next time.

Hi Marie!! 🥰 Your title for this was intriguing, and then you begin with a visual blast to the senses of the almost surreal beauty of those red flowers😍! Then a fast barage of a seaplane, kayakers everywhere, and next a glimpse of Marie's most pleasant countenance and smile 🤗☺, followed with a plane's eye view of fields and lakes, green and yellow trees, mountains a flowing river, paddleboards, beach fun, a bus, cool looking frontier log buildings and cannon, a merry-go-round, family name plaques, playground and basketball, Canadian flag, Root Beer Dum Dums and a pretty gold tumb nail, lake ferry boat, paraglider above a boat, pretty hills, a speedboat, horses, and campfire 😇😉 - what a foreshadowing of amazing sights to come from your tour !❤ Your music enhanced it all Marie! "Good morning everyone" with that lovely Lewis & Clark mug, your desk and materials at 7:43 in the morning, as you tell us "I have a little bit of time before heading to the bus to go to the airport and fly to Spokane so I'll be editing my Canadian video"!❤ Oh Marie, if I could be as efficient as you are (if only, lol 🤣) 🙏😇!!! I really love your "It's time to believe in miracles" shirt 🤗 , and that subtle "thanks Rey", lol! Then we briefly see Marie the "Speed Typist/Editor" and ready to leave at 10:52 am, whew!! That was a cool scenic ride on the bus to the airport with shops direction signs to Lewis & Clark Sites, etc., and then board your STL to DEN 2-hour flight (Love your use of rotating letters to show the airport agenda 💕)! And Marie, I am loving ALL your music choices here, and especially the tune a you take off!! The geometric patchwork scenery below the plane was cool, and YES, SO FLAT, is Right!! Denver at 3:21, the Southwest Airlines DEN to GEG for 2 hours and 30 minutes (Nice clock you used there too 😉. Finally, Welcome to Spokane (with the unusual metal sculptures above), HOOPTOWN! That was an interesting 737 Carbon Brake there! I like the US flag by Camping World, on the way now to Coeur D'Aene (as I mentioned, my brother's home for a few years), with some nice scenery for "My first glimpses of the Northwest States!" Those are such pretty trees, mountains, grassy fields, and that wall artwork of boats on water, and a cool black sports car (a "Vette"??). The city greets you with its beautiful lake and tree covered hills, complemented by the lovely sunset 🌇. I love what you said Marie, "I sat by the fire at the hotel for a fe w hours and let this grateful feeling sink in deeply!" What a lovely time, and how fitting for the sweet young lady I know named Marie 🥰, whom I know has an especially grateful heart! ❤😇🙏 I love that contemplation of kindness, generosity, thoughtfulness, caring, and God's simple love, as you do Marie ❤☺🙏 Now a "hello everyone" at 6:55 am in pretty green (yes it is a strange city name to pronounce in English 🤣. You had been having a blast and now on to the Coeur D'Alene tour and lake cruise, and on to Canada that night (AH, such a tell-tale lovely Marie smile with closed eyes thinking about it all 🥰). You said it felt like a dream or another person's life, but you deserved every second Marie!! The people were nice to you again, but you may begin to notice they always are, mostly because of how precious and kind and sweet they realize you are Marie 😉😇🥰. 34 C is warm for your day, and I am glad Caleb set it up for you to get to TSA earlier than others!! The 9:38 tour with Gary Cooper began with Sherman finding the town, and the lovely golf course there, especially with the floating 14th hole island (my brother showed me that one- WOW), where a boat takes you out and back, lol!! The whole course is so beautiful among the trees and mountains in the background, and we then see the lovely red flowers and a flock of white/black birds 🤗. There was that $15,000,000 home, and YES, you're right, it is such a gorgeous lake area (wish I could have visited while my brother still lived there). I love that Fort Sherman, Idaho, 1878, with the cool log buildings and cannon, the eagle sign, and the wonderful North Idaho College honoring of veterans at the Veterans Memorial (Vets of Schitsu' Umsh). I do remember your sharing that with us last year from DC, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, and those are great pictures of the 1907 Civil War Monument, the Mount Suragace, the honoring the dogs of War, and Ha Ha Ha, the crescent moon Out House 😂😂!! You found Iwo Jima 1945, the City Park of 1904 (so pretty Marie), that amazing Historic Carousel, Playland Pier -- WOW!!!!! That is amazing - hand carved in 1922 fron Tonawanda, N.Y. I love more family name plaques we see in addition to the Reagan Family and the McFarland we saw earlier, with the Schroeders, the Krotech and Retzler and Jones families. The details in that hand carved marvel are stunning 🤗🤗. I so love that you had time to wander alone around the city "far away, actually, I mean far away, by foot" !!! What fun!!! I agree, your fun spontaneity is just wonderful and allows you discover for yourself many detailed things!! You said you really enjoyed that (I really LOVE that for you ❤❤), as you saw downtown, shops, colorful flowers everywhere, the Garment District, the Eagle sign by those red flowers 🌹, the sea plane landing, that Big black dog (cute), the amazing mountain/lake setting as a whole (no wonder Sherman loved it there), that cool high clock, paddle boats and kayaks, the tour boat, the parachute glider behind his boat, and Ha Ha, that great Moose Statue 😂. OH NO!!! Nausea as the cruise boat tour began (thank goodness you had your Dramamine with you, as Mom always did ☺), and what pretty scenery greeted you, the sail boat, balloon rider, and Marie is invited to the Captain's Cabin, with lots of questions about France 😉. I love the picture of your smiling face in the Cabin 🥰. You had great fun seeing the GPS, how to drive the boat, the million dollar homes, the amazing views, that LOOOONG stairway from the house to the water, the House on the Rock (WOW 😲). And finally back on the bus to Canada at 4:56, to Canbrook, BC, with the landscapes and Lake Pend Oreille (148 square miles), the 5:28 stop at Sandpoint City Beach Park for restrooms, lots of boats, and then . . . the border crossing as the only French on the bus 😵! Naturally, they came aboard and called Marie to come out to be questioned (thank goodness you are good at that by then, lol!!), and he gave you the trick question you handled so beautifully about your Canadian visits last year and this - YAY MARIE ❣ That was funny that Steven asked you if you tried Poutine 🤣🤣(close to my name StevenS, 😂😇)!! Then he suggested the window seat to you! I'm glad you also saw Elk, and how pretty as that sun began to set Marie. Now you are to August 3 at 8:23 am for Fort Steele and the Waterton Lakes National Park! Wow, Marie, what a trip so far, and thank you so very much for taking us with you on another enchanting ride with our gracious hostess 🥰🤗 (P.S. I love "A Beauty" Mustang as the picture of the day 😍). Your work was fantastically FrenchTastic and unbeatable as usual 💕. I am so looking forward to your next Northwest Adventures video next Saturday, and I am also so wishing the best for my sweet friend, so please be safe, take care, and enjoy your week Marie 🥰🥰🤗🙏❣

I live in the Coeur D Alene area. The name of the city, as well as Pend O Rielle lake were named by French fir trappers. We're told Coeur D Alene means "heart of an awl" or something similar as it's the name the fir trappers gave the local tribe for their harsh trading practices. It's cool to see you in a more unknown area that has history for both France and the US

Marie! I just caught myself smiling throughout the video, which seems to be an inescapable result of watching one of your videos. Just so you know, I actually enjoy segments you record of your traveling in a car or a plane, not just segments of the actual destinations. It's so much fun, like I'm on the trip with you. I also enjoy when you record yourself early in the morning, before you've put yourself together, hair a little mussed, as you whisper that it's morning and you haven't left yet for where you're going. The images you take are always so nice and bright and clear. Shots of animals you encounter or people doing things like playing basketball or just relaxing on a beach...it's all so much like a real day, not just one destination followed by another destination. I wasn't going to directly say this, but I saw another commenter in a recent video echo my sentiment, so here's my sentiment: you're adorable.
By the way, that floating green at the golf course and the "House on a Rock" were really neat! I sent the link to the video to my brother because he's a golf pro...don't know if he's ever seen that green. You made me want to play at that course. I used to caddy when I was a kid. I can't tell you how many golfers I've had to caddy for who became irate (swear words and all) every time they'd hit a ball in the water. I imagine that green probably has a million balls sitting in the bottom of the lake underwater around that green! No Mustangs in this one, but I think I'll live! :)

There is a movie about the area of Coeur d'Alene called Smoke Signals. It is a comedy/drama about the native tribe in the area. You should try to find a copy of it and give it a view!
When i was in high school, we had a choir tour up through Canada and then to the Pacific Northwest. We also got stopped at the border but at that time Americans didnt need a passport to get into Canada. But we had a lot of exchange students in our choir and they all got detained for a while until Border security was able to figure thinga out. The Americans were all left on the bus and given cookies!

Woah!! A new adventure , living the dream out west Marie 🤠 🏞️🦌
Spokane (spoh-kan ) looks absolutely delightful & engaging as city's go , an urban oasis with so many attractions & a amazing roaring falls , lovely shots of the blooms (Lilacs ) 🏵️ I'll highly recommend walking along garden springs creek. It's hard to imagine the riverfront was once a railyard & now is it's pride of place. I've heard they have quite a collection of restored 🛩️ there & some perfect trails up to the awe inspiring rocks of Sharon & ones that resemble a bowl & pitcher & now just right for taking a trip around the fresh farm's of green bluff , I also like how you can have fun with water sports & kayak through the city to. It was well worth visiting FF.
Idaho's has some beautiful scenery with it's diverse landscapes & curious ruins (bee hives like) & isn't there somewhere that's like Ireland , it really is the gem state in more ways than one , your surely in your element with those spendid views of the lakes , maybe you'll try your hand along the fairway ⛳ someday , I wonder if anyone's been successful at hitting a tee over to that Island. We'll probably wouldn't mind living along there if the home's weren't so pricey , they do have that amazing light show they say is the largest in the country. None of your trips would be complete without paying respect to all the veterans , it's interesting that the statue's are near where so much history happened , it's touching they included the courage of our faithful 🐕 companion to.
Always appreciate of anything hand crafted like a 🎠 coursel , your never to old to take a ride , I like how all the features of the state were shown. Hey it's terrific you'll got to go up front on a boat , it doesn't have to be boring , maybe the captain had a few stories to tell or give you some tips , I used to have a neighbor I babysit for that had a boat , they also had a cool golden Pontiac Firebird 🦅 that was all the range back then. Crossing the border thanking you did get lucky with Steve , I dunno why they have to pick you out just because your french but it turned out okay kinda complementary. Looking forward to what wonders of Canada await you next , your always inspiring that anybody that believes in themselves can seize the opportunitys that comes our way & enrich our lives.
Thanks Marie , I've found quite a few Mustang gifts I'm sure your like to have for your birthday , I'll send a donation during the week & a card for your special day , hopefully the stormy weather over by now , happy & peaceful Sunday , aur voir 🧑 💕✨✌️

We have no city/town police dept., just a county Sheriff's Dept. & 10 Deputies. People up here just look out for each other. Be careful around elk as they are in "rut" from Aug. into early Nov. It makes the bulls aggressive. I hope that you see plenty of wildlife.

I will not take my wife to Couer d Arlene, Idaho. I wanted to move there in the early 80's. She said no way. So I told her I would never take her there. That way she doesn't know what she missed. It's just beautiful. Now I couldn't afford it. Enjoyed your video. I have been on some of the route you took to Canada. We took a big motorcycle trip out that way. From Indiana all the way to the Pacific Ocean. That was a great trip.

I'm so happy you are getting to see so many different areas of the US. I live very near the place you stayed during your first visit. As a matter of fact you drove right past my house in your video. Anyway you have seen more of the US then I have. I've never been west of Kentucky.

Also this video just screamed camping and summer cottages! 🏕 🌞 Makes me look forward to next summer already! Looking forward to the next video north of the border! Cheers! 🇨🇦🦌🌲🍻

Love it, nice views! Next time you should stay along the coast though! Vancouver, BC, Seattle, Portland. 🙂
If you have the time, a good ride is the Amtrak Coast Starlight train! I took it as my "ride home" from the Navy in 2003; they pay for your ride home, no matter how expensive. It is 400+ USD for a sleeper car ride from Seattle to Los Angeles, and it takes 36 hours to get all the way to LA. I only rode it to San Jose, though (I'm from that area, typing from that area now lol), so 24 hours for me. It's a beautiful ride though, and food is included at the 400 USD level. That also gets you your own little room on the train where you can lie flat and sleep. For all tickets, there's also a sightseer lounge with huge windows. 🙂
It's not the main way people get from Seattle to San Jose or Los Angeles; most of us would fly. Trains are simply too slow for that distance; even the TGV would take over five hours, when you can fly in 2.5 hours.
    But, it's a beautiful ride. 🙂

I'm missing your trips. Got me when I seem your jump from STL to DEN. I was born in Bonne Terre MO, in1950, and in 1955 moved to Thornton CO, 20 miles, north of Denver. Yes, it is really flat across the Great Plains Seen you got 1st class on your trip to Boston., Spent my last year in the Navy there in Boston. Denver I worked ramp there at DIA, with United. You have to see the Colorado Rocky Mountains. Was neat that you picked up a National Park Passport. Good way to keep track of where you went. Have Fun on your trips to the US.

As a native Idahoan from southern Idaho, the CDA area is one of my favorite places in the world. I have spent a lot of time there and have several friends in the area. There is just something about a place I only visit that always feels like "home" whenever I am there. So glad you got to visit and I hope it felt like home to you as well.

Cor d'Alene looks like a beautiful place. I didn't know it was like a resort town. I have been to southern Idaho but just passing through. You have now been to more states than the majority of Americans. If going back to Washington state, I recommend visiting Mount St. Helens. It's closer to Portland Oregon than Seattle. You can still see the total devastation from the volcano eruption in 1980! Although some areas are finally starting to grow back.

❤❤ Sorry, we in Missouri lost you to the Northwest, but such is life. There are some neat things in Idaho and vicinity. The Golden Spike thing north of Salt Lake city. The three islands crossing Oregon trail reenactment at Glens ferry. Used to be 4th of July weekend. Twin falls, and some great ghost towns. Sun Valley? Back in ancient times Bruce Willis and Demi Moore were a thing. Ernest Hemingway had a house there. Frank Lloyd Wright has a house at Hagerman. There used to be river parades in Boise. But bad management ruined that. The winter ice sculpture thing at McCall. The lake at coeur d'Alene used to have us navy sub training. The Nez Perce and their beautiful appaloosa horses. Like I said, lots of stuff between Salt Lake and Canada. But I know a lot is seasonal, and you would have to hang out for months to catch it all. Glad the mounties didn't lock you up. That is a curly W.

Too bad you pretty much passed through Spokane. The Steamplant Grill there is a destination dining experience, and they also have carousel in the main downtown park. Must be a Northwest thing. The Davenport Hotel is a gorgeous relic of a bygone era, worth taking a walk through even if you're not staying there. I've taken a Coeur D'Alene sunset cruise, as well.
