Hi Scott. Firstly I just want to say how great both of your channels are and thank you for sharing all of your insights and experience! I have a question about the MX-5. A fair bit of time is spent on other iRacing channels talking about how the Mazda has ABS. The consensus among those channels is that 100% brake should be avoided because ABS slows the car worse than hitting the threshold. I can see that you are going 100% so I would love to hear your point of view on the game ABS and maybe your opinions on ABS in the real world on track. Cheers & thanks! Happy Racing!
01:39 omg hahahahahaha I can't stop laughing! Your videos are teaching us a lot! But even masters keep learning from their own mistakes hehehehehee awesome moment!
Can I please ask for braking exercises? In terms of improving how to trail brake and how to precisely release the brake pedal, how to know if you’re braking to much or to little, etc.
i found out that all depends on your fisical setup. with the logitechs i would have the grafical inputs of the pedals just in front of eye view, so i could check mid braking and during the corner, how much i was aplying, and than trained myself to get better and better at it. of course u need to know exactly what trail braking is. and you should as well see the reaction of the car to it. So just have the inputs in your eye view. and do lots and lots of pratice laps on one circuit only, that you know well, your objective is to try and find the exact speed you need at corner entry to after hitting the brakes, keep them aplied and only release at the apex. if u find out you are losing the car because having brakes aplied,, means you are braking to hard probably. next time you go and try with less braking. always have a look at the inputs you doing. or go back into the replay and recheck what you doing on the inputs. For me was really that only. pratice a lot.. and finding the muscle memory and the coordination, to after aplying the brakes keep releasing them slowly and steady all the way to the apex. And watching the reaction of the car and learn that in some corners i should release the brakes faster for 20% and than slowly, other corners slowly all the way, others realease 70% and than keeping brake aplied for a small bit....
Love your videos mate, really helpful. Could you give any tips on looking ahead when using a single screen with a narrower field of view? You say about spotting apex’s but often they go out of view when taking a wide line. It’s especially difficult at hairpins for instance.
Just an FYI: you do not need to clutch downshifts for the MX-5 in iracing. You only need to blip the throttle. This way, you can use two-foot braking more consistently around the track and dong have to worry with heel toe (I'm honestly a little disappointed because I enjoy heel-toing, but I gotta go with the fastest approach).

That was probably with the old tyre model. Because with the V6 version (now old) colder tyres were faster. So the first lap out of the pits was the quickest. The new V7 model fixes that issue. Maybe still worth a try though.
Thank you for the video. I'm not on PC platform yet. ZI have a PS4 at the moment and spend the majority of my time on F1 2019. I play a lot of GT Sport also. Can you do some F1 videos? I feel like I spend a fair amount of time practicing and building a good setup, but I feel like I'm losing time in the corners. I concentrate on trail braking but everything happens so quickly it's hard to know at the time if I'm doing it properly. When I watch my recordings it's hard to judge because I'm not a processional so I dont have a trained eye. My other issue is that I won't remember what I was actually feeling at the time in order to justify my inputs. I love the channel and look forward to learning technique as you learn this new platform, whether you make an F1 video or not
I've been in sim racing for a short period of time (a year) and can say that i have improved, my lap times say so but I think I choose a wrong platform to start with, too much dirty dirvers people with no respect for other dirvers, so many dirty an unethical maneuvers done in one single race for instance. I enjoy racing but too much people don't understand terms like hold your line, clean overtaking, some people even think that when you are leaving them room they got to run over you because they are better than you. Sorry for the rant but I enjoy watching your videos and your advices are quite useful. I play GT sport so you might imagine some races are like a piranha fest mixed with a angry crowd on steroidssnd and out of control. Keep the good work.
I kind of wonder how fast/easy/hard(?)/slow(?) progression through iRacing's rating and licence can be for someone who knows what he's doing. Great vids btw, learned quite a few things from recent lap review videos... and golden nuggets are just keep coming!
Very easy. I mean, in 3 months with barely 50 races I got from Rookie to Class B. Not that hard :-) Now being in B I can start having real fights cause I've reached B and dont have to care about SR too much anymore hahaha
Very nicely done Scott. I've been telling people for quite some time to check out your "Driver University Series" at driver61.com. *EVERY DRIVER* should watch those videos which explain in wonderful detail, corner types, angle of attack, braking techniques, spotting brake markers and *SO* much more. IMHO your University Series videos are literally the unequivocal *BEST* driver training videos I have ever encountered.
How big is the screen you're using? Based on the footage here you're using a huge FOV, I've found that using the correct one helps a lot with the general feeling and awareness, even if you loose some visibility. Can't discuss with the results though, you're killing it!
Do you race exclusively in VR? Because there the Field-Of-View is always correct automatically. Your replays have a very wide FOV that wouldn't be correct if you raced without VR on your TV setup. Of course some people don't mind having the depth perception all wrong when they at least can see a little outside the driverside window and also get a higher sense of speed from a wide-angle FOV... that's fine, but I think it should be a conscious decision and many people just don't know about the effect of FOV settings. So look it up, if you didn't know about it. iRacing has a built-in FOV calculator that can help you.
yes the exact FOV needs to be calculated according to monitor size eye distance etc , our brain calculates distance much more effectively given the exact same perspective we see and live with in real life , we may be slower initially as our peripheral vision may be reduced which is also a helping factor as is three monitors or VR but even without seeing apex you drive faster. we need the reference point just like entering every corner exactly the same means learning 12 corners instead of 12 thousand if he wants to be fast hes going to need to explore the limits and stick on them at every corner entry simple easy basics we can all do but only aliens are seen doing...
Do you detail your SIM setup anywhere? I'm interested in getting started but have no knowledge of what is a realistic entry point for steering, pedals and so on.
There are a ton of videos that highlight SIM hardware. From entry level to high end. You'll find reviews also. I started with Logitech G29. I've upgraded to Thrustmaster Rs300. I'm trying to save for a direct drive wheel now. Not sure, but I'm assuming that's hat Mr. Mandela is using. Maybge Santa will notice that I've been a very good boy this year😁
The new tire model requires much more braking force than the old one. You used to get maximum braking just tickling the abs which was at 50%. Now abs is at 75% and the car still stops pretty well if you lean into it.
How you you think, assetto comperes to iracing, you should try rfactor 2 to if you want maximum feel, I love rf2 for force feedback, I feel iracing is dated ffb I kmow they have new tire models but I didn't like the feel of it, But there's no getting away from iracing in online race's so far ahead for competition, Or try sim racing system for assetto
Tire model and FFB are separate things. iRacing's FFB only models forces felt through the steering wheel IRL. There are extensions that add feedback to iRacing that is otherwise only felt through the seat like G-forces, suspension travel, engine vibration, etc.. my AccuForce wheel comes with Sim Commander which enhances the FFB outputs with various other components, it helps.
Iracing hehe Tyre model 7. And still rubbish. Give it a rest Iracing. Talk to Reiza about sorting Physics and FFB. You would be the best SIM out there for sure Iracing/Reiza!! And if you want to test a cars physics give Automobilista a try and gives us your feedback!

I love the channel and look forward to learning technique as you learn this new platform, whether you make an F1 video or not
Did you try Live For Speed?
In that chicane the IMSA cars SCREAM their way threw....you should find your way to Limerock Park some time
I've been in sim racing for a short period of time (a year) and can say that i have improved, my lap times say so but I think I choose a wrong platform to start with, too much dirty dirvers people with no respect for other dirvers, so many dirty an unethical maneuvers done in one single race for instance.
Great video! What wheel and pedals do you use?
I kind of wonder how fast/easy/hard(?)/slow(?) progression through iRacing's rating and licence can be for someone who knows what he's doing.
Great vids btw, learned quite a few things from recent lap review videos... and golden nuggets are just keep coming!
Very easy. I mean, in 3 months with barely 50 races I got from Rookie to Class B. Not that hard :-) Now being in B I can start having real fights cause I've reached B and dont have to care about SR too much anymore hahaha
Try the Dallara F3 please. Also, set ups.
Wow! That's very much!
you get your own personal VR setup yet? lol You loved it before ...in a video with Simtech last year
Yes, I'm using a simtechpro setup with VR
Great video. Informative and very interesting!
Love the snarky white text
Do you race in VR or do you use triple screen set ?
How big is the screen you're using? Based on the footage here you're using a huge FOV, I've found that using the correct one helps a lot with the general feeling and awareness, even if you loose some visibility. Can't discuss with the results though, you're killing it!
Cheers! I'm using VR, it's just the reply that I leave on the normal cockpit view. I need to sort it out though!
@@driver61simracing10 Oh cool! It looks fine on the video, I just felt that driving with that FOV would've been a bit uncomfortable.
Don’t use 100% brake input, abs chews up tires in iRacing and it’s a lot faster and you can brake later if you brake at about 75%
Thank you for the tips! Are you using the "heel and toe" technic on the sim?
it seems like he is
Great video, thanks for sharing. :-)
Very interesting. like your videos.
Maybge Santa will notice that I've been a very good boy this year😁
The curbs will bend and damage your car over time if you hit them enough, more and more damage the strikes you make
What a Pro!
I really wish these games would allow you to learn in chunks.
👍👍👍
Coanda Simsport colors, eh? Someone has high hopes for their iRacing career ;)
May I ask why people always half braking in iracing but I watch you are full braking sometimes?
Maybe I'm braking too much at the start...
I'm guessing this is fixed setup.
The Advanced Mazda enables you to tweak the setup to your liking for the track your racing
The new tire model requires much more braking force than the old one. You used to get maximum braking just tickling the abs which was at 50%. Now abs is at 75% and the car still stops pretty well if you lean into it.
Why don't you try to win the F1 world championship e-sports? Is the F1 game a good simulation?
@bomarfield I doubt, how can you be so sure?
How you you think, assetto comperes to iracing, you should try rfactor 2 to if you want maximum feel, I love rf2 for force feedback, I feel iracing is dated ffb I kmow they have new tire models but I didn't like the feel of it,
But there's no getting away from iracing in online race's so far ahead for competition,
Or try sim racing system for assetto
Tire model and FFB are separate things. iRacing's FFB only models forces felt through the steering wheel IRL. There are extensions that add feedback to iRacing that is otherwise only felt through the seat like G-forces, suspension travel, engine vibration, etc.. my AccuForce wheel comes with Sim Commander which enhances the FFB outputs with various other components, it helps.
Perhaps you could review some of my videos and tell me what I'm doing wrong?
Are you winning all your races? :P
Yeah I'm doing ok, apart from the ones where I jumped the start by mistake...
i hit the rear kerb and it bent up the whole front of my car DONT TOUCH THE RED KERBS
no need to clutch for downshifts in this car on this sim.
Just out of curiosity has anyone else felt that the new tire model is actually slower?
Maybe a little bit.
2nd race lol
Iracing hehe Tyre model 7. And still rubbish. Give it a rest Iracing. Talk to Reiza about sorting Physics and FFB. You would be the best SIM out there for sure Iracing/Reiza!! And if you want to test a cars physics give Automobilista a try and gives us your feedback!
A race driver using auto clutch????....
