Man the 2023 was actually a banger I thought. Loved that bottle. Down to a bottom third of it left and savoring it. Got it for 118 at Costco last year and hoping to find this years at Costco again.
You forgot the obvious alternative, Old Forester Single Barrel. They’re typically 120-130 proof, and a bunch just dropped here in Louisville averaging about $89.99
The OF SB has WAY more age and more classic bourbon flavors. The WR BP has a much wider variety of flavors - more atypical notes. But in a perfect world, the OF SB would sell for more, I agree. I prefer it.
Just found the 2024 today at Costco so the streak continues. Got it for $108 this year. Just cracked it and first pour is nice. Has a cherry note that I'm not used to but enjoying. Look forward to it opening up!
Jason, Outstanding reviews. You really tell it like it is! I have made many decisions based on your feedback and I’ve never felt I made a poor decision! Thank you for your honest reviews!
I have this bottle, it is very similar to 2023. Regular Woodford Reserve is about 2/3rds Old Forester and 1/3 pot still distilled Woodford juice. The pot still addition adds a wider range of flavor to Woodford Reserve. The batch proof is a carefully selected group of those pot still barrels. It lacks age, but it has a wide range of flavor, really fairly comparable to GT Stagg in proof and the flavor “density”. It is pricier than I think it should be, but I grabbed a bottle and will sample it with friends who know bourbon.
Have to disagree. It's thin and just doesn't bring enough to warrant the price point. ECBP, old Forester barrel proof and others are better values. But I see why people do like this. But proof can only get you so far.
@@TheMashandDrum Hey Jason. I enjoy your reviews and channel. I would like to send you some samples of our products and get your feedback on them. Glenns Creek Distilling. I know you will give a no BS review.
@@nirushanarumugam We did sample the end of the 23 with the opening of the 24, and both are just super-dense flavorful pours. I'd probably recommend the 24, but it is close. It may be worth stating that really enjoying high proof pours is a pre-requisite for this one.
@@bourbonbill Thanks! How does the finish compare on both? I had a sample of the 2023 release and felt the finish was a bit drying. Other than that, it was so good. So not sure if I should get the 2024 release instead although I had no sample of it.
I got to try half pours of '24 BP along with '23 & '24 double double oaked at their distillery recently. I felt this years BP, while good, isn't one I would miss if I didn't get a bottle. Though lower proof, the flavors in the double double oaked were so much better. Thanks for another great review, Jason.
Great review, Jason! I really liked the 22' and thought the 23' got a lot better as I worked through the bottle. I was just found the 24' last week and looking forward to reviewing it soon.
Definitely got the oak right away, plenty of heavy depth to it, the down side was the tannins in the finish that were a bit much. Definitely not artificial. Tasted and reviewed it on line during the Bourbon Bar's live stream.
Bought it for $154 at TW in Indy. I liked last years offering, but I agree with your value proposition. Probably won’t buy again. I have many bottles that I enjoy that I need to keep drinking before adding more
This was available last summer in a store close by and I was pretty close to grabbing one but ended up going with the ECBP. As much as I like WR and their double oaked the fact that WR distiller select is only a couple more dollars than ECSB but their barrel proof was almost twice as much did not set well with me.
I have to say, I snagged this one and REALLY enjoyed it. One of the better bottles I've tried this year. Now is it worth the high MSRP? For me, yes, but your mileage my very.
I passed on last years 124.7 proof, even though a lot of people said it was really good. And Costco had it for $109, but like you said ECBP is still cheaper, Booker's is $80 at Costco. OF Barrel Strength is $80. Heck 1920 is $50-$55, Salute!

This is hard to hear. I loved the 2022 release and was hoping we'd see a return to that form. I'm running out of releases to look forward to that I can reliably get in PA.
I've had a few pours of the 121.2...not a fan so far. I bought the 2023 and the 2024 entirely on the strength of the 118 version (the first woodford of ANY sort that I've really liked). The 121.2 has hints of the cola notes I liked from the 118, but then it just goes bitter. Who knows, maybe it'll grow on me...
Am I buying these? I've seen exactly one, ever, and while out of state. "Everywhere" apparently doesn't include here. 😂 But no either way... no interest in mediocre $150 NAS Bourbon.
I have the 2023 release. I got a sample of the 2022 release from a friend and blinded them. 2023 was better for me. Batch Proof is way better than regular Woodford, but not worth $150 imo
I’ve only had the 2022, it was great, but they’ve become way too expensive for what you get, especially in light of what available alternative options exist.
Not a Woodford fan, don't even think DO is all that, but I was given a sample of last year's Batch Proof and thought it tasted like a $50 bourbon. I'll continue to skip all things Woodford until further notice.
There you go Jason, saving me money yet again. Seems like these releases are not differentiated enough to continue buying. That’s aside from being a poor value, as compared to other age stated releases (JD12 comes to mind from recency bias). Unless there’s an absolute banger batch, which I have yet to encounter, these feel like a firm skip to me. If the price was closer to $100, like the OF barrel proof picks, that would be a different conversation
Since a water molecule is very small, it is easier for it to escape through the barrel than the much larger alcohol molecule. Because the atmosphere at the top of a Rickhouse is very hot and dry, the water molecules escape much faster than the alcohol molecules thus driving the proof UP in those barrels also concentrating the flavors.
And don't forget it's a 700ml bottle, so you're down even more $. Any 700ml bottle is an immediate pass for me - this isn't Europe. We need to send a message to these distilleries/owners and boycott this 700ml movement.
They aren't listening and are not only giving you less in quantity, they're raising the prices. There's no shortage of people who still fall over each other throwing them money.
I can’t imagine ever putting out that much money for this. I have always found Woodford Reserve to be boring. I can’t see how making it higher proof would not solve that issue. Pass!
