obsolete unsafe junk. Death traps at any speed. You can't upgrade something obsolete.

Its not a waste cos we are 1 mil force, plus 1 mil para and we need a lot of these... and we don't have it... we need to induct new systems but upgrading these systems is also necessary till we build up numbers to replace them.

Induct new systems is the way to go. There is no point and a huge waste of money upgrading obsolete junk not useful on the modern battlefield .. better off buying Tata Kestrels.

@@datoolz0 See we are not engaging US, UK or France.. our BMP2's primarily engage Pakistan along the International border... and with China to a lesser degree cos China border is mostly the Himalayas... Most of Pakistan's equipment and China's equipment is no different from BMP2 and so upgraded BMP2 are perfectly fine. Also these BMPs can even be given to CRPF for internal security duties once forces have enough replacement. BMP2 are more than enough for CRPF

they should get rid of BMP2 , most light machine guns today have the capability to rip that armor to shreds, indian army isn't leaning anything from ukraine?

upgrading the aging BMP-2 of the Indian Army is a waste of money . . . might as well buy a fleet of SAAB CV90 IFV or Ajax IFVs from BAE Land Systems . . . 76% - 84% local assembly & specific TOT (subject to favourable negotiations) without any offset clause . . .

@@cgtim3230 understand your point . . . but the thing is that, after serving the world's militaries for nearly half a century the BMP-2 is finally done . . . any upgrade of the BMP-2 at this point of time won't make much of a difference, even in a real combat situation involving artillery & infantry . . . there's a limit to how much a fighting machine can sustain bcos any upgrade to an aging war machine directly depends on it's basic sustainability . . . that's why upgrading the BMP-2 is a waste of money . . . a new tracked IFV can be designed & prototyped for the Indian Army in less than 12 months (if given the opportunity) in India . . . and inducted into the army within 30 months . . . i know this sounds unbelievable but it's true my friend, every word . . . all you need is a like minded team of dedicated professionals who are willing to give 101% of their best to our country . . .
