Hey everyone! Just wanted to announce this since so many people ask.
Character shoes and ballet slippers are perfectly acceptable. If it is considered a dance shoe then yes you can absolutely wear them. :D I hope that clears some stuff up for you guys. Good luck with your auditions!

thank you so much! i'm only 14, but i know that i definitely want to be friends with a princess and i will try as many times as i can to get the role! i'm not so much a dancer, but i did take 2 dance classes a few years ago and a musical theatre class last year. i'm also a cheerleader, so i've learned how to smile even when i'm holding up a 100 pound girl and my wrist is being crushed. this was so inspirational.
Cheerleading is a definite plus! Good luck when you do audition in the future!

what are some tips for balancing working at disney and also going to school?

Hey! I'm auditioning in October for a Disney College Character Performer and I found this video incredibly helpful. I was wondering if it would be more advantageous to wear dance shorts or something more like jazz pants or yoga capris? Thanks for the video!
Are there certain auditions for particular parts? For instance if you only want to try out for the fur characters.

(I know this video is older! I apologize for commenting on a old video!) Thank you for the video! I have been watching many videos of this subject today. I have been going into my audition almost blind and these videos have been very helpful! I would love to be friends with a fur character (I am kind of ugly and I am a trans man so I don’t think I’d be considered for any face character any ways, haha)
I must ask- How long does the dance instruction take? It takes me a while to learn dances and I’m worried I wouldn’t be considered if the dance instruction was too short.
For the 2 dance routines, does having a dance experience of Hula and Tahitian dance count? (It had 5-6-7-8 steps) and taking a Jazz dance class this year count?
As long as you can pick up moves pretty fast and pretty well then you're set to go!
So you said you were cut right then and there earlier in the video but that you kept doing the audition process. I'm confused. 😫

Ahhh so excited/nervous for my audition this week! I have dance experience but I haven't taken acting classes in a while do you think I still have a shot if i'm not a theater major??
+Jennifer Waldeck Oh yeah! Of course you do! Anyone has a shot at being a performer, it's just that you have some tricks up your sleeve haha. But not taking an acting class in a while isn't a problem. As long as you can go big and portray your story clearly, then you're golden.

I have never done dance before is that bad I'm a hockey player (girl btw) I'm not very flexible like splits I can get like 3/4 of the way down is that bad

Hi, congratulations!! I was just wondering what the monologue you got was. I keep trying to look for monologue examples from auditions, but no one really mentions the scene of theirs aside from the movie.

Hello, I was hoping you could tell me if at 5'0'' and slightly chubby, like a size 6-8 pants and petite medium top, if I'd be incorrectly proportioned to be a Disney character. Everyone I've seen talking about character jobs, even fur work is on the skinny side.
there might be some for you but unfortunately even tinkerbell and other shorter characters are like 5'2" to 5'4" and I think the biggest size they make in any costumes is a size 6, not quite sure about fur characters but the costumes are probably built the same way
+Jewel Winant Tinkerbell and other characters such as Alice and Flora, Fauna and Merryweather are actually 4'9" - 5'4" 😊
Hey. I've actually know a size 8 Snow White. Also, I've seen many performers who aren't petite. Of course Disney can only do so much. I don't think you should worry about your size at all.
I'm English and I hate living there lol but I want to work as a Disney princess or in the DCP will I be able to work in Disney world Florida and also do you get a better chance to get picked if you wear makeup cause I don't like wearing it out places unless I have to
+Molly Crombie You would be considered an international CP or just move to Florida when you land the job. You're gonna have to move to Florida either way. Anyway, I know girls who are friends with some princesses who wore a crap ton of makeup to an audition but I also know people who didn't wear make up at all.
Besides all that, if you do happen to be friends with a princess, you're gonna have to wear make up when you guys hang out.
If you get cut from the audition are you still in consideration for other roles in the dcp?
+julie crystal Yes! Being cut in the audition has nothing to do with the other roles you were interested in for the DCP. The audition is strictly for performance roles.
Hi Matcha! When you danced, did you make eye contact with the judges? I have been to three auditions and was either told that they were not looking for anything in my height range (5'2", so roughly 5'1" Disney height), or I did not make it past the first dance and was wondering if that was part of the reason I did not proceed.
+Gingey Sarah In many auditions, judges definitely love the idea of you not being afraid to look straight into their eyes. It shows you're engaged. However, eye contact is just a small part of a movement audition so it's not entirely the reason you did not proceed. But also understand that they are looking at multiple people at once so there's is a high chance that you would not even catch each other's glances.
I know I definitely was looking at him for many parts of the auditions but only remembering looking at each other one time. ONE TIME.
But in all seriousness, Disney does look for certain heights at each audition and is the main reason many people don't continue on.

I have a love for theater and was a DCP member last year in Downtown Disney/Animal Kingdom QSFB and ODV, and discovered that making magical moments is my passion. I really would love to go back, and I know it will happen someday when the time is right. Hope those judges don't get tired of seeing me, because I'm going to keep trying! Thanks for the advice.

I'm not sure if you'd know or not but I know some performers sing so I was wondering if they have a singing audition?
Yeah! You just always have to look at the audition page for singing specific roles.
what if you don't live in America but are going for like a trip can you still go to an audition?

Hey! I was wondering what shoes to bring? I don't ever wear heels, so that's not an issue. They say clean sneakers or dance shoes, what would you suggest? And thanks for posting :)
Hey hey! I brought my ballet slippers because I used to dance and I felt really comfortable in them. Disney suggests not to wear socks if you don't have either clean sneakers nor ballet slippers. Socks are not a good idea. I've seen people slip. So if you feel comfortable moving in sneakers, then go for it, but if you feel more comfortable barefoot, that's also a way to go.
But. Also. Also. Also. One of my friends who is friends with goofy, he wore jeans and dirty converse. Haha so take that as you will
I know this a long time late but it's really easy to dance in converse like in hiphop stuff that's the easiest but everything is doable in converse
+Johnniegirl they just don't want dirty shoes on the floor. It's disrespectful to ballet studios.
But, again, one of my friends who's friends with goofy wore his converse ;P

You unfortunately don't get to choose a character to play. When casting sees you to be perfect friends with someone, they then follow up with that character
I have no hair but have a nice wig. Should I put it on or honestly be bald in the Audition?

Only a few certain characters matter, but most of the time, no, not at all.
hi! I love your video :D especially at the end, "they're looking for you" ahhhhh, so nice. So these auditions are for any type of character, right?? i.e. furry friends in those big full body costumes vs princesses, etc?

So what happens after you get in? Do you get to pick a specific character? If yes, are there any Marvel characters like Iron Man or Captain America?
VXMasterson marvel isn't Disney soo.. no. and we don't get to pick our characters they're chosen for us.
You're friends with the characters that are just as tall as you. We don't get to pick. Disney owns marvel. Yes, marvel is disney, sooo... Yes, you can meet marvel characters in California Adventure.
And just a bunch of paperwork and training afterwards :D
Matcha Please oh well I'm in Orlando.. disneyworld and all that stuff are two separate parks
marvel and Harry Potter and all those franchises aren't part of the actual disneyworld area, they're in the surrounding parks. if we audition for disneyworld then we aren't going to be sent to the studios park to play one of those characters.

I doubt it. I think they'll just give you contacts to use until the shift ends. At least that's what I guess they do.
I know a crap top of people who wear glasses to work. Face characters, depending, have colored contacts. But fur, I know people who wear glasses in character.

+I'm Shuyi I was 20 at the time when I auditioned and it was in Phoenix, Az. One of the first time they came to Phx.

I've been wanting to audition since forever, it's been my dream to become a look-alike.
My fear is that I'm going to be too tall. I would want to audition for Princess Jasmine, or Moana, but I'm already 5'6 (and I'm only 14 years old!). I'm expected to be about 5'9 when I get older, and I heard the expected hight for a princess was around 5'4 - 5'7.
What do you think about this?
Ive seen some pretty tall princesses. But you never know unless you try! Good luck!
Fangirl warning This one former Disney Princess got casted as Snow White while she was 5'9! (Age 21) They could make exceptions. ;)

There was a definite majority of ladies. However, there were many men that totally made it to the end. I actually ended up working with a few guys who were at the same audition as me!
It's all based on your performance! Not your appearance.

Disney wants to know that their cast members are bright, happy people who enjoy what they're doing.
It's also just a performance thing. Part of a performance is your face :D
Do they care about hair color? Im auditioning for Cinderella and Snow White but my hair is red/maroon.

Well. I will tell you this. If you do get hired to be a performer, you have to change your hair color to something more natural. Depending on how "natural" it looks you might be able to keep it.

I think you should have Clear Contacts because it will show them your Natural eyes but you can tell them you have Blue ones just incase. I'm trying out For Moana when I'm older. ^-^ Btw I would bring some chap stick and some Water, too.
